3D Modelling and other stuff - How do I get into it, what programs?

    TimTimTommy birds are my fetish

    Basically; The closest I got to 3D Modelling was using Autodesk or Autocad, whatever that was in Engineering Design class which was boring as fuck.

    I already got a basis of programming, although very little. (only knowing stuff from realBASIC, and a bit of Java.)

    I want to spend some of my free-time, productively, and work on 3D Modelling, for vidya games. Or just graphic design in general, creating sprites and shit that I can later on use in my future shitty programs.

    pls help.

    Uuuuh. Shit. I had a load of stuff on this from when I tried doing it back on my old rig.

    I'll try and look through some stuff and see if I can find them all again..
     
  3. I personally use Blender and Maya. I also use Inventor at my engineering classes but that's another story.

    The most popular programs are 3DS Max, Maya and Blender

    Blender is completely free, and there are also free student versions of 3DS and Maya (non commercial).

    Blender has a very steep learning curve and is not typically used in the industry, but is just as powerful as any other professional program

    Maya has an excellent set of modeling tools and also has industry leading animation tools as well
    3DS Max is more focused on modeling itself, and is also used in the industry.


    Some other programs that I have tried that are pretty cool are: 3D Coat, Lightwave, and Cinema 4D (Which is especially proficient at doing sequenced 3D scenes, like 3D intros)
