AGRP - HL2RP Serious Server

Discussion in 'Communities' started by Pudsey, Aug 12, 2014.

    Sup.

    I've re-done this introduction after some constructive criticism, but hey, we start off somewhere!

    The community is called AGRP, which stands for ArcticGaming Roleplay. We're a serious HL2RP server with roughly 16 - 11 people on at afternoon towards evening. Obviously, our Admin Team isn't perfect, no server's admin team is perfect but we try our best to get rid of the minges and make sure that the server is a great RP atmosphere.

    We like to keep the cannon relatively normal, however, we will change a few things depending on what the community likes best. Speaking of the Cannon, there have been some rumors about a GHOST unit tearing someone apart, it happened when I was offline. I spoke to him and told him that he's augmented, but not that much. I also told him that a unit with the brainwashing that he has wouldn't walk into an interrogation and tear up a Citizen. So, we voided it.

    What Makes Us Unique?
    • We like to think of realism, that's why sleeping and drinking is a must. Not just at rations.
    • Our events are not just Zombies and Antlions. We try to be more creative. Maybe an accidental supply drop, fires, an important guy coming into the city (No assassination attempts).
    • PrisonerRP! You get yourself a dandy Orange jumpsuit and are put to mindless tasks.

    Here is some information on how the factions are run -
    Metropolice Force
    You gain the Metropolice Force whitelist with OOC applications on our forum ( www.agrp-hl2rp.enjin.com ). Here is how the ranking system works:
    RCT;
    05;
    04;
    03;
    02;
    01;
    OfC;
    EpU;
    GHOST;
    DvL;
    CmD;
    SeC;

    We like to use logic with the MPF, that's why we make sure that we don't have any edgy, Superman 05s who can hit all moving targets and such. Your aim will only get decent around 02. We also have a cycle for the MPF to eat and rest, but I'll get into that towards the end.

    The Resistance
    Pretty much a Ghost Faction, there's no one in the Resistance. You can gain the Resistance two ways, an app or ICly. You have a better chance OOCly. Don't worry, our Resistance are not super, badass, streetfighters. They're malnourished Citizens with an extremely light kevlar on who have to scavenge for weapons. Most resistance members have pistols along with a make shift knife.

    Vortigaunt
    When you get accepted you gain both whitelists, Enslaved and Free. You have a choice on which to start as. If you're enslaved and get freed, which is kinda unlikely, you will be transferred to the Free Vortigaunt whitelist, the same for free if they get captured. Our Vortigaunts are not Wizards with deathly spells. Most Vortigaunts can levitate or ignite very small objects and perform minor healing spells with small cuts and bruises. Elders can perform much wider range of spells but only with 24 hours worth of rest.

    Overwatch Transhuman Arm
    Before we start, OTA does stand for Overwatch Transhuman Arm, right?

    Anyways, after gaining the whitelist from the forum, you'll be accepted, told to make a character and flag down.

    Civil Worker's Union
    Again; Two ways to gain this. OOC and IC. IC app events are about once a week, thinking of pinning it down to a pacific day.

    The Day Cycle
    To add realism, we made a system where the day lasts for an hour and thirty minutes OOCly.
    0 Minutes:
    Citizen: You wake up, you'd get ready for the miserable day ahead. Once you're ready, find something to pass the time.
    MPF: You'd wake up. You have five minutes OOCly to get ready for the day ahead. Maybe some food from the restoration chamber. 02+ would be dispatched to patrol almost straight away, lower ranks have some time to get ready.

    15 Minutes:
    CWU: Now the CWU shift starts.
    Citizen: Continue with your daily routine.
    MPF: All units would've been dispatched by now.

    20 Minutes:
    Citizen: Daily routine..
    MPF: 02+ go to the restoration chamber for food, ten OOC minutes later, the rest of the units come in for food.
    CWU: Still at work!

    40 Minutes:
    CWU: Rations!
    Citizen: Rations!
    MPF: By now you're energized and ready to dispatch rations.

    This is just a giant space of NOTHING.

    1 Hour and 10 Minutes: (It's evening.)
    CWU: Get inside before curfew starts!
    Citizen: Get inside before curfew starts!
    MPF: Tired from a day's worth of running, 05s, 04s and 03s are dispatched back to the Nexus.

    1 Hour and 20 Minutes: (Getting dark.)
    CWU: Curfew begins.
    Citizen: Curfew begins.
    Metropolice Force: After the apartments are locked, you're all inside resting!

    Curfew lasts for ten minutes, then the cycle starts again.

    That's the day cycle, it adds realism I think and a real atmosphere.
    Note:
    Work cycles are once every few days.
    Atmos will not be accurate and matching the Cycle.

    P2L
    We use Play To Lose, because logic overpowers luck.
    This is why we use P2L...
    MPF.STORM.01.98989 aims his gun infront of him, firing almost instantly.
    Jeremy Hall attempts to dodge
    **MPF.STORM.01.98989 has rolled 13 out of 100
    **Jeremy Hall has rolled 80 out of 100.
    Jeremy Hall dodges.

    We hate situations like that when logic is thrown out the window.

    Anyways, this is an introduction to my server. I hope you all liked this introduction of my community.
    I edited a lazy version that I previously made and I hope this is better.

    Thanks.

    EDIT: 188.165.48.203:27018 - Server IP.
    EDIT: Added some more stuff to the post.

    Not a very functional advertisement, is this? Check out the guide and try to structure your thread in a better way. I wouldn't join the server off of this.

    EDIT: A unit forced their hands into someone's chest and then tore them in half? Okay. No thanks. I wouldn't touch the community with a fifty foot pole.

  3. Re: AGRP

    I got banned permanently(I believe) before I even joined because I had a tiny argument with piee on how weapons/kevlar/ballistics worked, so my friend could get out of a ridiculous PK. It was a DvL trying to be a badass.

    If you could fix those on your server; The edgy units, incredibly incompetent staff, and the way ungodly augmentations work, that'd be just dandy.

    Otherwise, good luck.

    EDIT: Turns out I wasn't banned - I was just lied to, and never decided to join, because I received a huge fuck you to the face from piee. :v

    Re: AGRP

    Hey, what was your Steam name? I've not been informed about Piee permabanning someone...

    Also, the only case of tearing someone up I've came across when my CmD tore someone's neck slightly open after cutting it with a Combat knife.

    EDIT: [AGRP:A] piee: We had an argument about weapons/kevlar/ballistics?
    [AGRP:A] piee: WHEN?

    Augments are the biggest no for me. And so is brainwashing units. ESPECIALLY brainwashing units.

    The problem has been solved. Like I said in the post, I told him and he accepted. He left the server after a few weeks after that event.

  10. Re: AGRP

    Pudsey, if he remembers a person with the name Wess?

    Yeah, that was my friend. I was defending him from a bullshit PK.

    Then he was perma'd, and so was I, I believe. My Steam name is exactly what my CloudSixteen name is, if you'd like to add me.

    Well.
    We class ourselves as 'Serious' because we only come on for the RP and not to test out guns and stuff. It's Serious RP because only RP goes on. None of the mingey Alt running parkour stuff. That's why we're serious.

    Acerius Rock it for me!

    It's stormy outside of my shed that I sit in so a perfect time to throw some negative vibes at this thread. There's a lot of issues that need to be outlined and effectively worked upon if you wish to make this community somewhat successful with a lot of them already being pointed out. I'm going to be as blunt with you as I possibly can so I can hopefully make this thread look appealing and overall help out your community. If you don't want to take this on board then well, that's your choice to make; you're the owner, you call the shots.

    * The Forums - When people say a paid service, they genuinely mean that you should go out and find some decent forum software or a host like Invision Power, PHP, XenForo, vBulletin etcetera. Enjin is probably one of the worst, ugliest and most non-functional services you could of chosen out of all the decent ones. On top of that, your forums are highly disorganized and need restructuring for user-friendliness. A forums/website is the decider as well as the server as it'll probably represent your community for the rest of its time. It definitely needs some elbow grease.

    * The Thread - Your thread is an non-formatted wall of text which nobody really wants to read. Some images, proper sub-headings and organization would be nice. A lick of paint could make this thread a whole ten times better. Some of the stuff you've listed in this is unnecessary and not needed. Also, if you want to be listed as serious, MAKE YOUR THREAD SERIOUS! You really need to freshen this up and make it look professional and half-decent. Do or don't, there is no try. If you need help with this, there are guides and people out there. Take note!

    * The Server - Despite not having actually been on your server yet, reading the replies and having a gander at your forums and such tells me all that I need to know. Clearly by your conversation with Fixxer you have no clear definition of what the term Serious Roleplay is. All I can recommend to you is taking a step back, having a good look at successful communities, seeing how they function and going back to square one. Learn the basics again and then applying it to your own community to make it better. It'll work eventually, trust me.

    That's all I have to say to you. The only other thing I will say is that listen to the suggestions and criticism that is given to you and apply it effectively. We may look like a bunch of brash rednecks but honestly we're only trying to help you. If we speak to you blunt and serious, you will take it on board. We're not going to sugar coat it and pretend to be your mother; "oh, that's lovely sweetheart but... maybe if you did this..." and so forth. Take what we say on the chin or with a pinch of salt, whatever phrase you use and apply it. Good luck, mate.
