Purpose of the Guide.
In this guide we will discuss the events of Half life one through the Seven Hour War and the current events. One thing to know, the events of half life 2 will never happen on the server. We will go over the origins of the combine, what they want, and why they invaded earth. We will talk about common knowledge about the events at Black Mesa. As well as what Citizens, Rebels, C.W.U and the C.C.A - H.C know. We have changed some things from the original timeline to enhance role play for your enjoyment.
Timeline.
In the timeline we will include an actual representation of the years that went by. After we go over the timeline we will look at a glossary of all the names and terms used in the timeline.

-The Universal Union invades the Vortigaunts Homeworld.
-Long Struggle ensues between combine and the Vortigaunt race.
- The Vortigaunt race retreats to Xen.
The Combine Empire invades and takes control of the Vortigaunts' homeworld (which we have never seen), and attempt to enslave them. Vortigaunts flee from planet to planet, battling and evading the Combine forces. With their backs against the wall, they flee to the border world Xen, where they wait their demise.
The Combine attempt to hybridize the dominant species of the planet (This is what they attempt to do on Earth, as well). Back on Earth, at Black Mesa in New Mexico, teleportation experiments are taking place. Under the supervision of researchers Eli Vance, Arne Magnusson and Issac Kleiner, crystals are retrieved from Xen, and organisms are analyzed. Research is developing.
Aperture Science, also develops its own Portal technology parallel to Black Mesa onboard its many research facilities and enrichment centers.
2000
-The Resonance Cascade
- Combine Empire takes notice of Earth.
- Black Mesa is Destroyed, along with all evidence of its existence.
The resonance cascade rips open space-time and forms a portal between Earth and Xen. The Vortigaunt race sees the dimensional fissure as an escape route. Of course headcrabs and other life trapped on Xen decide to hitch a ride to Earth, for the fun of it. Black Mesa becomes chaos, as the Hazardous Environment Combat Unit, a United States Marine Corps Special Forces division, is brought in to quell the results of the Resonance Cascade, including the elimination of all humans caught in the cross-fire.
This resonance cascade is so immense in nature, that the Combine Empire notices it, turning their interest to what is happening on Earth. Eventually Black Mesa is destroyed by nuclear detonation. No survivors exist.
2004
- Portal Storms Begin

Unfortunately, though Black Mesa has been obliterated, Earth has yet to feel the brunt of this disaster. "Portal Storms", a seeming side-effect from the resonance cascade, form a dimensional rift between Xen and Earth. These Portal Storms spread outside the confines of what is left of Black Mesa and throughout all of Earth, providing temporary, chaotic, and destructive links between Xen and Earth. Aliens (from Xen) of all types are teleported into suburbs. Headcrabs crawl along the aisles of grocery stores while others teleport into swimming pools and homes. Utter chaos erupts on Earth. The freed Vortigaunts use these storms as a ticket out of Xen and onto Earth, fleeing from the Combine.
A huge population shift occurs as people move into the cities, protected by soldiers and barbed wire fences, to escape the monsters. A feeling of safety comes over the people of Earth, as they can once again live normal lives within the confines of the cities, as the alien species continue to infest the outside world. Vast networks of antlion nests are formed throughout the Earth's crust, housing millions of new species.
The Combine, who have been keeping an eye on Earth since the resonance cascade, finally decide to take action. They plan on taking the Portal Storms to their advantage and use them as a method to mount an invasion on Earth. Now that the Vortigaunt race have fled from the border-world to Earth, the Combine can forget about Xen and enslave both Mankind and the Vortigaunt race in one fell swoop, on Earth.

Forcing space-time and the portal storms wider open, The Combine launches a multi-pronged, all-out assault on the entire Earth. They teleport troops as well as drop-ships, gun-ships, and striders from Combine off-world outposts through the Portal Storms, and onto Earth. Once there, the Combine uses the same technique that they used on Xen on the humans, building a super-army out of the combination of the DNA of the most dominant species on Earth (the humans) and Combine technology.
The primary Citadel is established in City 45. This enormous structure is home to the Earth based a different framework center. Combine armies are produced here as well as vehicles and armaments. Combine presences are established in other cities around the world. (It is hinted that there may be other secondary Citadels around the world, linked by a network.)
While fighting each other, the humans and Combine also have the threat of the Vortigaunt race. The freed Vortigaunts ally with the rebel forces, wanting revenge against the Combine. The headcrabs, being headcrabs, just attack anyone they can find. Other monsters find their place assaulting both Man and Combine.
The next stage of the Combine's plan takes root. Jean Bruce, "made" optimistic about the Combine takeover, is appointed the Administrator of Earth, acting as a puppet for the Combine. How she is selected for this role is unknown at this time. Bruce's first act is to surrender Earth to the Combine, explaining that the Combine have arrived for good, to immortalize humanity, convinced by the Combine that the loss of life is inevitable in this transition period as Earth joins the Universal Union.
Small pockets of rebel fighters surface, but have to establish bases in unsafe areas in the country, where the Xenians have manifested themselves, finding niches in Earth's ecosystem. Still under the spell of the Combine, and ignoring the massive genocide, Bruce views the building rebel force as a group of short-sighted troublemakers.
The remaining populated areas are named City 1, City 2... City 45, City 46, etc and are placed under control of the Combine, who are establishing a huge presence on Earth.
2011

Jean Bruce takes residence in the top floor of the City 45 Citadel, under the close counsel of the Combine, attempting to quell the rebels. Bruce attempts to console humanity by permanently making a connection between himself and it. She does so by controlling the media. Huge television screens are erected in city centers. Newspapers, television, and other forms of communication are censored and their content is controlled.
Bruce's message is simple: That humanity should not attempt in any way to cause friction in the transition period as mankind integrates itself with the Combine. She believes in order to join this Universal Union, Man will have to sacrifice a lot, but she still believes that the ends justify the means. She truly believes that joining the Combine will be positive to humanity, and tries to convert the rest of it to his point of view. After The Portal Storms, mankind are in such disorder that they can and will believe something like this.
Ruling by fear, the Combine Empire assure to continue to protect human city centers from the outside aliens, and thus fearful humans continue to live in the cities out of fear for their families and themselves. The Combine Empire's brutal reign begins.
The Combine's purpose with Bruce is also simple. Her purpose now is to prepare Earth for an eventual total Combine migration. Her job is to eliminate any resistance to the Combine. Using controlled raids and a "civil-protection" force, Bruce captures and converts any resistance to stalkers. Additionally, the Combine Empire attempt to enslave the Vortigaunts, with some success. The Combine's ultimate purpose is to convert all of humanity and all Vortigaunts into slaves. More important minds are taken to Nova Prospekt, where they are stored in containment and experimented.
Bruce orders some transitional tasks. First of all, the Combine Empire enact a Suppression Field to prevent humans from procreating. (In particular, protein chains important to the development of an embryo were specifically blocked.) They do this so no new humans can be born, and that the humans left on Earth will be the final generation of them. They also put a biochemical in the water supply to make people gradually forget the past, and so they can more easily comply with Bruce and the Combine - to forget why they hate them.
Glossary.
The Combine Empire - An inter-dimensional species determined to dominate the Universe. Their main goal is to merge biological species with technology.
Xen - A border world used as a “Subway” for traveling species. It is used as research grounds for Black Mesa.
Aperture Science - The lead competitor of Black Mesa. They were farther along with portal research than Black Mesa, but all of their technology has disappeared.
Nova Prospekt - A “Prison” set by the Combine to experiment on and study the human species.
Suppression Field - A field designed by the Combine to stop any and all reproduction techniques by humans.
The Portal Storms - A series of portals opening up across earth releasing Xen wildlife and attracting the attention of the combine.
What we changed from the original Lore.
We have changed quite a bit from the original lore. We have changed the survivors from Black Mesa from seven, to none. We have changed Earths Administrator from Breen, to Bruce. We have changed the combines purpose from “Destroying earth” To making us a slave planet. These may seem like simple changes, but they have a massive effect on roleplay.
Effects these changes have on Roleplay.
Most of these changes alter the half life universe. One example is changing Earths Administrator from Breen to Bruce. Doing this adds different events that could take place. Example: Bruce has a meeting with the Advisors and they order her to *Blank*. Another example is that it would change the City Administers rank in H.C from Lowest to Third in Command, below C.M.D.
Another Change we made is having zero survivors of Black Mesa. This change means that the events of half life two never happened, and never will. This also prevents minges from joining the server with a character such as “Gordon Freeman” or “Alyx Vance” saying that they are still alive. So, this change alters the universe meaning that the server will never have a “Lore Ending.”
The third change we have made is the Combines purpose for Earth. In original lore, they are leaching the resources off of earth with the intentions of killing us all. We changed it so that they want to use Earth as a slave planet. This is another change that results in the denial of a “Lore Ending.”
Common Knowledge.
Most, if not all people will know these basic things. The Combine rule over earth. The Combine are technologically superior. The portal storms have an un-identifiable cause. Outside of the city is a very dangerous place to live, you are much safer inside of the city.
What citizens know.
As a citizen, you have a lack of complete knowledge about the seven hour war, and prior to (such as what the Combine actually are and their motives). You know that portals have opened up across the planet releasing alien wildlife. The Combine invaded Earth shortly after this, and the war lasted seven hours. The combine are harsh and may be here to help you.
Rebel Common Knowledge.
You know that the combine are not here to help you. You know that they are using us for some sort of ulterior motive. Your reasons for fighting them may differ, but it all boils down to freedom. Vortigaunts have caused massive amount of trouble for the human race, but they help you fight the combine. You don’t know where any of these aliens come from (Unless told by a Vortigaunt). The only way to find out any information about the Portal Storms or the Resonance Cascade is to research, but you are at a severe lack of resources.
C.W.U Common Knowledge.
Basically the same as a citizen, though the reasons you work for the combine differ, You do not know anything about the creatures from Xen except that most of them are trying to kill you. The combine will not allow you to research the origins of their species, you accept that. You do not try to seek knowledge for fear of combine punishment.
C.C.A Common Knowledge
The C.C.A’s knowledge differs from rank to rank. With each rank you are allowed to learn more about the origins of the combine race. As well as where the species of Xen come from. Attempting to seek knowledge about these things may lead to punishment depending on what you learned. The combine do not want you to know everything about their origin, and their goals. With knowledge comes power, the power that they do not want you to have. With each rank in the C.C.A you are allowed more knowledge than the last rank.
RcT-04 Knowledge.
As a new recruit, all the way through the rank of 04, you are not allowed to gain any knowledge that a normal citizen may not know. You fear the punishments that may ensue with your quest for knowledge, but that may not stop you.
03-01 Knowledge.
As an 03-01, you are allowed to research the origins of the Xen species, as well as their anatomy. You may not know the origins of the combine species or why they invaded earth to begin with. You know well enough not to seek knowledge that is not provided to you.
E.P.U - H.C
As an E.P.U+ you are allowed most, if not all knowledge about the Combine Empire. From their motives, to their methods. You understand why they are here and what they want. You know not to question them for they have multiple galaxies under their command. The combine now trust you with the knowledge of where they came from and what their species are.
