BOREALIS GAMING - MODERN WAR ROLEPLAY

Please note, since the story and server are currently under development we are open for ANY criticism and suggestions. Please make it constructive to better the server. Thank you.
Borealis Gaming was made in early July of 2014 as a serious roleplay based community. It has went through many stages and reincarnations as different names. We have done many HL2RP's, a Metro 2033 RP and a custom Atomic server. Now we are returning. This time we are building a story based around the story of a specific NATO Platoon placed in Israel following a war in the Middle East.
Although our past may be filled with good and bad, this time we are coming back with a promise of quality, especially considering making a quality Military Roleplay is a big task.

SETTING:
The setting of the server is currently on the road to Safed, Israel, following an invasion of upper Israel via the Syrian-Israeli border. Many platoons and companies have been stationed along critical positions on the front. The middle of Israel -- at the Palestinian-Israeli border -- is also being invaded. The 8th NATO Platoon, which you would be a part of, is stationed at the Safed road. They are outnumbered 1:5 unknowingly to them, however they have yet to see the enemy advance.

STORY:

IT ALL BEGAN IN 1992

Desert Storm never happens. A revolt overthrows Saddam Hussein four years prior, after continuing corrupt and conspiracy have turned the government against their own leader. The old government takes over, promising good for the people of Iraq. Soon they look for a strong ally and Syria gladly accepts. With lowering tension in the Middle East as a result, many look to see this as a good thing. Many world leaders also look at this as a threat, with a Sunni Islamic coalition forming in the Middle East. Soon Palestine joins in, while continuing tensions in Israel. Soon afterwards Syria, Iraq and Palestinian leaders meet at a conference, where discussions are made about the future without any western leaders or diplomats present. Only 6 days later, on November 9th, 1992, the Treaty of Baghdad is signed, making a military bond mainly between Iraq and Syria. Palestine signs as a member and Afghanistan also signs after being invited. Pakistan is later admitted as an observer state and then an official member on January 1st, 1993. An official military force is formed, called the Baghdad Treaty Organization (BTO). NATO observes very closely, coming even more into realization of what is happening. The Middle East is showing them that they too can be strong. That they can have their own NATO without western approval. During several meetings between NATO and the BTO, BTO leaders assure NATO leaders that they mean no harm and that it is simply meant as a pact to have a united Middle East. NATO leaders walk off. They do not have any ideas of what is in the planning. The BTO already is planning Operation Sacred Sands... they hope to show the west that they mean business.

The forming of the BTO also comes with extremist resistance. A new group comes into existence with little building power, called themselves the Islamic State of Iraq (ISIS). They aim to make a less peaceful Middle East and a more radical Islamic sect based on Sunni ideas. They have no idea what the BTO has in store, but they assume it is not good for their aims. They get boosted power when al-Qaeda leader Osama Bin Laden dies in 1993, splitting up the group and bringing more militants to ISIS. The group continues to build up in secrecy.

Sometime earlier, in 1992, the building Russia makes the CSTO, or the Collective Security Treaty Organization. In September 1996 a new member is admitted as the first member to be a country not formerly in the Soviet Union. That new member is Iran. Although this causes some worries in the BTO not much is said from the world. NATO does meet at a small conference and they decide to send 200 more troops to Kuwait to monitor the situation.

Operation Sacred Sands, the invasion of Kuwait and Israel, would take two decades for it to finally happen. It would shock the world, as wanted and expected by the BTO.
OPERATION SACRED SANDS

THE YEAR IS 2012. THE WAR HAS JUST BEGUN

After many years of planning on November 11th, 2012, Operation Sacred Sands begins. The BTO, the Baghdad Treaty Organization, begins an invasion of Kuwait. World powers are reluctant to respond expecting the United States to act quickly, however they do not. Obama underestimates the BTO's power and Kuwait falls in less than 4 days. Only a day later BTO forces begin the invasion of Israel through Syria, the following day through Palestine. NATO forces are already arriving in Israel following intelligence suggesting Israel is the next target. NATO forces underestimate the BTO yet again and they lose a considerable amount of ground before they are able to be ready somewhat. No one knows how much power the BTO has... yet.
OPERATION SACRED SANDS TIMELINE:
08/14/2011: Turkmenistan joins the BTO as an observer, not knowing off Operation Sacred Sands.
11/05/2011: Al Hazir Kashkent is installed into the Syrian government by Iraqi leaders. He was installed after Al Maham Jazzeri, the previous leader, was found conspiring to leave the BTO.
04/13/2012: Al Maham Jazzeri is executed publicly, confusing world powers.
11/9/2012: BTO forces gather at Israeli and Kuwaiti borders.
11/10/2012: The first NATO forces are sent into Israel.
11/15/2012: Kuwait surrenders., with BTO casualties only around 90. NATO evacuates their force of 800, sustaining only one casualty, an American named Francis White. He is marked as the first NATO casualty of the war, but will certainly not be the last.
11/16/2012: BTO forces attack the upper part of Israel by the Syrian-Israeli border.
11/17/2012: BTO forces attack the middle of Israel through Palestine.
11/18/2012: All assigned NATO forces are in Israel. Both NATO and the IDF prepare for all out war.
11/20/2012: Jerusalem falls to BTO forces, being incorporated into Palestine.
11/21/2012: BTO forces gain about 100km of land in the area around Jerusalem.

FACTIONS:

8th NATO Platoon:
The 8th NATO Platoon is the main bulk of the roleplay. Each member of the Platoon knows each other and cooperates with each other within a diverse population of soldiers, the majority from the USA, the UK and Canada. They are always on the lookout and the waiting game causes a heavy weight to be put on their shoulders. They never know when the enemy is going to attack until they are already knocking. The war is not being taken too seriously by NATO just yet. The platoon is part of the bigger 36th NATO Expeditionary Force, made up of about 15,000 soldiers. They first saw action in the Bosnian War as part of the 2nd NATO Expeditionary Force, but were transferred to the 36th following Operation Sacred Sands. As a player in the platoon we encourage everyone to have a unique story, a life back at their home, etc to talk about during passive roleplay.

Baghdad Treaty Organization:
The Baghdad Treaty Organization is a very large coalition of military forces, reigning from Syria, Iraq and Palestine. Currently Iran is not in the warfare. A small minority come from Kuwait and Jordan. The BTO was formed as a middle eastern coalition, mainly with hidden aims to beat down the west. Although they aren't clearly shown to have religious motives, they do support and hide the Islamic State. The BTO is currently the instigator of Operation Sacred Sands and is invading Israel. The chunk responsible for attacking the area controlled by the 8th NATO Platoon is the 2nd Baghdad Division, aka the 'Syrian Menace' because of the division being made of 90 percent Syrians. They are much stronger and equipped than NATO knows and have made significant gains within the first days of the invasion.

Israeli Defense Forces:
The Israeli Defense Forces are the military force of Israel and are known to be quite the military. They had successfully fought and won many wars to keep their independence from falling at the hands of the Arabs. With fierce ferocity they having already amassed 150,000 men and woman to fight the BTO in this crisis.

Islamic State of Iraq:
The Islamic State of Iraq is a prominent terrorist organization in the Middle East. Previously they looked at the BTO as a threat to their aims, but now with the recent war against Israel and Kuwait they have decided to join the BTO as a side fighting force. They also consider Hezbollah and Iran as their main enemies in the Middle East, and the west as a whole as their main enemies. Their current estimated numbers as a military are around 80,000.

Just to be sure here... ISIS springs up in the 90s, takes over Iraq and Syria, and then Iran, Afghanistan and Pakistan aid that ISIS based state?
If so I would just rewrite a bit about how exactly that goes down. ISIS' is Sunni, their perhaps main goal is killing Shia Muslims, and the Iranians are "the" Shia state. I understand you've wrote "non-religious reasons", but that is the driving force between relations in MENA. The Saudis also wouldn't let that alliance go unchecked.
Just a suggestion though, seems like you've put a bit of thought into this.

 

I've hopped on and gave a couple suggestions about the NATO and stuff (Being the main faction of the server)

• NATO don't use PvT, PFC, CPL, etc etc etc, they use OR-1-9, WO-1-9, OF-1-9. This is because NATO is an organization of multiple countries that use different ranking systems.
  Example: In Canada, you become a Private when you reach OR-3, while in the US, you become a private when you become OR-1.

• NATO uses weapons that are made by their country.
  Example: A british soldier uses a L85 and a HK45, An american soldier uses a M4A1 and a HK45. While Germans use G36C, australians use the Glock, etc etc.
• You call people "Ma'am" or "Sir" when they're an OR-6+, but salute when they're OF-1+

I'm saying this because when I joined I saw these faults, and wanted to clear them up.
Also you should use one standard model from the PMC pack (Which I'm sure you use), like the vari-camo one.

As for the religious problems with having Iran in the BTO we were worried about that. We are looking for alternatives, such as changing the story of Syria and Iraq being allies without ISIS, or removing Iran.
We are also going to the do the OR-1, etc ranking.

 

Yeah, if anything, Iran would probably be funding Shia extremist groups (like they currently do), besides, where's the Kurds in all of this?

Middle East has always notoriously been a lawless shithole, much like Warlord-era China.

Me and the council team are currently working on making the story have much more conflicts and realism with the setting being in the Middle East. We will work to add the Kurds, do a better explanation of how the Iraqi-Syrian-Palestinian treaty was made and make ISIS less involved in the formation of the BTO.

Along with that, as previously said, we will be condensing the ranking system a bit (but it will not be OR-1, OR-2, etc so we can simplify it) and will experiment with making weaponry a choice depending on what NATO country you come from. Of course that will come along with rules.

We are now in the launch phase of the server, however the next few hours will be military training for new players and then an event following it. We are going to use this time to build the story a bit more. The roster will be setup at the end of the night and those who show exceptional roleplay may be promoted to be a part of the 8th.

I suppose, but we want there to be an atmosphere where NATO has a challenge. They invaded before the IDF had all of its forces ready in the country.
