City 38 Showcase Thread/Album

Discussion in 'Mapping' started by Xenoxia, Jan 13, 2016.

  1. I'm glad that a lot of people like it and that there is hype for it, I might be making another project after this map also. I finally feel that my maps are actually up to a scratch where they could be released, when I came up with the Dino-Crisis RP and was doing the map for that; I felt it came about very prematurely and the map I did after that was much better than the one previously.

Now with this map, I'm very pleased with how it's came about and hope to make more like it in the future. (So, if you have any ideas; feel free to post any here.)

How about a map where its like all of earth in one source map!?

  3. That'd probably fucking destroy hammer's limits but It would be cool

  4. As outline said, that'd kill hammer; there's a brush limit of 8192 or something silly like that. Filling in about 2-3 districts of a city is hard enough as is if you want to atleast have detail in it; if everything was a simple block like in gm_bigcity... maybe... (Though that uses very good texturing and use of propper, and also why pretty much all buildings are not enterable.)

  6. I added a crappy little shack in the canals.

  7. Nothing screams "YO THERE'S A VORT IN THERE LIKE 50/50" then a crappy little shack in the canals.

  8. I really should have tested the map in clockwork, why is clockwork so laggy? My FPS went from stable 60-70 to about 40-50, what gives?

It's been known for a very long time that Clockwork tends to make maps lag. It's not as optimized as it could be.

  10. Hey everyone, updating you all. The map is complete now and is working fully on clockwork, had to fix up a few doors as they didn't work properly but that's done.

The map should be up for download at the end of the month and hosted on a new HL2RP community ran by Prospector, more information about that will be made known in a few days; I'll post the link here when it's ready.

Thanks for all the help <3

Holy shit, air nodes? I haven't seen a mapper use those in a long time actually. That means birds can fly, scanners can fly (without smacking the limit), and gunships and dropships and npc helicopters and dragons and kurozael and myself with wings and that one furry on here with wings i think its hipster...

  16. Removed fog and fixed lighting issues created within Clockwork itself.

  17. Optimising as much as I can now, I've managed to improve FPS in quite a few certain areas.
