Complaint Criticism And Comments : Clockwork HL2RP 2 Beta

    Okay, first of all I would like to show off my gratitude towards a past Clockwork contributor for deciding to make a HL2RP v2 Beta server for all of us, for what he gained a lot of respect from me for allowing me and a bunch of other community owners to test out the script. Thanks.

    Okay, I was really excited when I received the email regarding the opening of the beta server, I immediately quit BF3 and joined up the server.

    When I joined the server, I was quite surprised there was no intro screen or anything, then nek minnit this strange déjá vou feeling when I noticed the exact same quiz from OA. It was nothing suspecious for a few minutes, but then when I finally get to dig my self through the character creation screen I ended up into a very strange UI style script.

    To be fair, I only spent 15 minutes on the server, and I already finished off looking at the "new" features, and to be really fair, there was nothing new at all. I might put this bluntly, but if I would of wanted to see clockwork, I could of just went onto any generic HL2RP server to see the same shit all over again.

    Okay, it is of course a beta, but what new stuff I seen from the eyes of a player?

    New barrier scripts, added the stupid thirst and hunger plugin, then a more strange CID system, equipment section, and that's it, oh and let's not forget about the annoying citizen sounds that people spammed all the way.

    But hey! At least the script was a big let down even if it is in the beta it could of been worse, and who knows there can be tons of new features coming what we don't know of, but how we going to judge those while we are only being shown of it now? I mean we can only judge over what we see right now, and that is absolutely just a cosmetic OA script with name changed.

    No, I won't go into my problems regarding the generic setting of Revotech but it is alright, every community does that these days, it is nothing new so far, but I am here to help improve CW, so let's get back on track.

    Alright so, as you might see, as a customer I am very disappointed regarding the beta of the schema, and it was rather a massive let down for me, and possibly for others too who share the same thinking.

    But since I do not want to give up my chances at CW, so I shall give a lot of feedback regarding the script!

    Okay, let's run over the massive let down parts first.

    1. The UI.

    Okay, you guys seriously need to change your mind and change the UI as much as possible. Not just the design but have some originality, since this is a "brand new script" it should have a lot more fancier look, no? I think us customers should have a word into what we invest our money into, since we didn't even get a RC (release candidate) version of it just yet.

    I think if the UI would be re-designed, brand new elements would be added, the radio would be separated from the chat and such would exist it would give the script a brand new feel, rather then just give the old OA style stuff.

    2. Citizen Voice Commands, aka "WHY DO I ALWAYS DREAM ABOUT CHEESE?"

    This is rather annoying and lowers standard levels, I know you guys don't give a fuck, but CP's already doing this shit and nek minnit? Citizens.

    Where is this evil circle of voice binds going to get us to??? It is just simply removes the need for text based roleplay, what is really sad.

    I understand communities (the shitty ones) want more RPG oriented content, but that is a bullshit, you should consider maintaining a standard instead of lowering it's limits down to the nothing.

    Please do something about this.

    3. Combine Barriers.

    Nice, I don't want to complain about it, but I am going to complain about that you guys now letting shitty communities restrict members a lot more, what is a negative effect, but at least it is a nice feature.

    You guys need more creative ideas like these.

    +Respect for it.

    4. Character and Roleplay Information

    This is just stupid a bit what you guys did with it, just like re-sizing it, nothing more.

    I think it would be a better idea to give the players some more option to describe their characters, a nice character bio or extended information section would look nice here, I guess you guys could easily do it?

    (Go go a past Clockwork contributor!)

    5. The Chat.

    I am still being restricted to use limited numbers of characters, what is really dumb and you guys should create a much better chat box for the people who like typing a lot, you would help out a lot of people with that. I think this is a must have feature, and I think people will agree with me.

    Other scripts like TS2, T2 have these functions already, why CW don't have it??? That is just dumb.

    6. I can't see aurawatch at all from this point.

    Yeah, sad can't judge that.

    7. General feel is like OA.

    Please, there are so much similarity that I must weight out that you guys must do something about the repetitive feel of the script, I think you guys have the resources and the money to do so, so why not do it already?

    So anyway, this is my CCC thread, hope I managed to give back some feedback, and I hope you guys going to consider these and put it right into the script.

    I think you guys could make a really awesome script out of the current let down that is called as the beta currently, but it's alright, we got a lot of time. (let's pray for Jesus to be right)

    Thanks for reading my wall of text.

  2. I agree with most of this stuff, from what I've read, Clockwork is supposed to be a step up? Seems the same.

    The biggest problem for this is that...

    We are judging a game mode exclusively for Gmod 13 on its unintended game.

    Anyway there were a couple of features you missed out.

    1. Improved area ad. Feature (seriously top notch.)

    2. A command for players to see what admins are online.

    3. Faction set doors (?)

    4. Character transfer looks like it has been fixed.

    I'm pretty sure there was more all I had to do was write / in chat then press tab repeatedly for all the commands.

    Now onto your complaints.

    1. I have very little problem with the UI since that's what I have been expecting from the videos released. I imagine they would be slightly improved since the inventory is a bore to look at, but never really got a chance to test it out. I will admit it was nice to see items split into different categories.

    2. Easily removable. Easily added to OA. Don't see the problem really.

    3. Agree.

    4. Not quite sure what you mean. I assume writing your description. If you had a bio of yourself what would the point of role playing be if a player has all that info at their fingertips. It's the reason I get pissed when someone asks where is place x in OOC. You can find out by asking a citizen or a cop. Some people also probably don't want to write a bio about themselves and just want to jump in and figure it out as they go along.

    5.This doesn't bother me really. If you run out of space in the chat then you were writing way too much. If you remove the character limit you could end up looking at a wall of text. I believe that this problem would be with gmod itself rather than the game mode specifically.

    6. Yeah, would imagine little has changed.

    7. It kind of does, however we are judging a beat which still has numerous glitches on the game it was not intended for. There are probably lots of behind the scene changes we haven't seen yet to help developers mod for their community.

    Connal, the sad thing about this list, is that anyone with a brain and a strong will to get shit done could have done most of this. (The area add feature is something that requires experience, instead.)
    As most of this requires minor code changes.

    Most of the items of that list are easily fixable:

    *The voices could just have a flag.
    *Barriers have been around longer than the one you saw in hl2rp beta. (MGS, S18 and S6 have them)
    *The character bio is really easy to do, the problem is that I don't see how could you show your bio to someone RPly. I think the best bio you could show someone, is the way your character acts and talks.
    *Chat is very easy to fix.

    Very true I guess, which is why I'm holding out that more went into the behind the scenes more than anything.

    Okay so, I'm not going to really go into details regarding the character bio, I already designed a working system for the extended character information and I wish to keep information secret about it for my own community.

    tl;dr the rest, as far as I see it is not important

    But so far, CW is the same as OA and this is pretty much just a cosmetic change and not feels fair even for the price we have paid, I'm sure people agrees.

    They could of squish more exciting content into the gamemode, but they decided not to, so I'm quite confused how this is even called as a beta when there is rather no changes regarding OA in it.

    Even thinking about if Gmod 13 would come out tomorrow, I would just get a cosmetically changed clockwork then a completely new gamemode (what we were offered right?).

    "tl;dr the rest, as far as I see it is not important"

    Thanks for that.

    Though I do agree, I didn't expect any radical difference with HL2RP but I will admit I expected slightly more. It's also well and good saying "You wanted more." but just saying that and not really saying what else you wanted probably doesn't help.

    I will admit if this is what the final product is then I don't think I've gotten my moneys worth.

    Finally the character bio. It helps in no way if you expect something in the game that you don't explain. If you are also making it why does it bother you it's not in Clockwork? It would be available to all communities making yours less unique.

    Even though I've only read the first paragraph (I will read on after posting this), the intro has changed but I disabled it as we have no logo for HL2RP2. I prefer not to show the intro and not have purple and black squares. Things like the quiz are minor, although you're right I should've changed it.

    EDIT:
    Okay so from what I can tell most of you are struggling to see the difference, the majority of that problem right now is we've not changed much of the UI (yet). I shouldn't have even called this version of HL2RP2 a beta because it's more of an alpha. A lot more has changed than you can see. I've extensively worked on Clockwork to make it work quicker and more efficiently. Fixing bugs that existed even with Nexus that went unnoticed. I appreciate posts like this, although I don't check the forums as often as I should. Clockwork isn't meant to run on GMod 12 either, so some of our changes have had to be 'reverted' just for these tests. Clockwork is nowhere near finished, I'd love to say we had a projected release date but we don't. It's so unknown that Clockwork will most likely be released without the new versions of the schemas.

    Always good to know. Either way, still looking forward to CW.

    You guys could at least of make the beta onto gmod13.

    And for the release date, I feel like it is being used as an excuse to cover up laziness.

    We code for it to work on GMod 13. There's a file in Clockwork called sh_gmod12.lua which has a bunch of hacky methods to make GMod 13 code work on 12 and we have no plans on shipping that with Clockwork. It's coded for GMod 13 and that's why it won't work on 12 without stupid hacks. If you want to call it laziness than that's your choice, Garry changes how functions work with most updates to GMod 13 and it breaks Clockwork. If there was a GMod 13 beta for a schema we'd forget to update it and since Garry has decided to make the new version look terrible I don't have plans to be using it all that much.

    You just need to remove this : sh_gmod12.lua

    And then voilá', customers can already enjoy your script on gmod13.

    From the sounds of it they can't actually do that due to all the update breaking CW. The script also sounds easily exploitable so there is no point of putting a server on gmod 13

  15. alexgrist

    alexgrist Guest

    No, this gmod12 file is something I made to overwrite GMod 12 functions to work as they do in GMod 13. It doesn't need to be there, in fact I remove it everytime I push an update to our GIT repo. It's not exploitable or anything special, I prefer testing in GMod 12 as garry insists on making GMod 13 even worse each update.

    openAura.quiz:AddQuestion("You do not need items to roleplay, do you understand?", 1, "Yes.", "No.");
    openAura.quiz:AddQuestion("What do you think serious roleplaying is about?", 2, "Collecting items and upgrades.", "Developing your character.");
    openAura.quiz:AddQuestion("What universe is this roleplaying game set in?", 2, "Real Life.", "Half-Life 2.");
    openAura.quiz:AddQuestion("What do you do if you see a minge running around?", 2, "Prop block him and knock him out.", "Tell an Admin.");
    openAura.quiz:AddQuestion("What do you do when an admin tells you to stop doing something?", 2, "Keep doing it.", "Stop doing it.");
    openAura.quiz:AddQuestion("What do you think meta gaming means?", 2, "Exploiting the OOC system.", "Using OOC information IC.");
    openAura.quiz:AddQuestion("Do you understand that you MUST type properly, using capital letters and full-stops?", 2, "no", "Yes, I understand.");
    openAura.quiz:AddQuestion("Can you type properly, using capital letters and full-stops?", 2, "yes i can", "Yes, I can.");
    openAura.quiz:AddQuestion("Do you think it's a good idea to steal a person's item with no RP whatso ever?", 2, "Hellz yeah man.", "No, it's bad to steal, even worse to steal without RP.");
    openAura.quiz:AddQuestion("What do you think the correct term for 'RDM' is?", 2, "Raging Death Mice", "Random Death Match", "Real Douche Mailboxes");
    openAura.quiz:AddQuestion("Will you join the forums if you like our server?", 2, "Hell no.", "Yes, I might if I like it here.");
    openAura.quiz:AddQuestion("What do you think role playing is all about?", 2, "Being a drug dealer that sells crack to little kids in DarkRP.", "Having fun in a slow and relaxed environment.");

    Done, might need polishing up for more totally serious RP k.

    The things with quiz though is that if you have half a. Rain you can blitz through them. For instance I don't need to look at the questions of any server because the answers are usually yes or the less sarcastic ones. I really think that questions need to have more depth than the correct answer and the witty wrong answer that seems to plague all quizzes.

    So instead of putting Raging Monkey Death we should put Real Money Donations, k fixed.

    Yeah I suppose. Adding questions pertaining to the canon can help.
