Other Episode one roleplay..anyone?

SireElite what's the big fucking deal?

anyone ever thought of a idea for roleplaying in episode one of half life 2, (NOT EPISODE 2)
a city with wreckage, some going on and off battle's.
you can say its the action packed version of HL2RP, but not just a TDM where you can spawn, and just run to a war.
    any idea's...anyone?
there could be passiveRP aswell, of-course; make some shelter's or try to survive or some sort.

*if this is the wrong place to post this topic feel free to move moderator's.

i'd like to see some better RP done in a white forest sort of setting

  4. Problem with this kind of server is that most people are incapable of doing something creative to keep things interesting that isn't based on firefights.

I've done this before, many people I know have done this before, I've seen countless servers done with it, 3/15 servers actually get players. The rest slowly wither off and die. It's not an interesting enough concept, because people go in expecting "GUN GUN ARMOR KILL COMBINE = $$$$" and they get passive RP which they don't like, and then they leave.
Not saying don't go for it though.

It's be neat if done properly. But no server owner knows how to do it properly, or trusts their staff to carry out events for said city they're in.

  8. I thought of something like an episodic kind of thing, pretty much the same mechanic as Security Detail, except that it's based around a group of survivors escaping from City 17 to reach safety in White Forest. Though some thinking would probably need to go to it to keep people hooked up with methods beyond shooting at NPC's.

these are my ideas for a private server stop :(

but allow me to offer input i guess.

i would do this in a sort of way which worked a lot like omega had put it. like, shit, i've thought of this idea for a whole year, and inviting the people like you guys would make the server work, i'm sure of it.

occasionally, the group would run into some officers that are just fighting to stay alive, or soldiers that are confused in general. there would be events of the group running down into a street, and soldiers appear, or a rooftop battle where eventually a building happens to collapse... then, when the dust settles, the group sit together for a bit, regaining their breath, mourning their losses and planning. at night they could sit around a campfire, inside some blown-out building, and tell each other stories and shit, or work together to barricade a building, and maybe even convince some officers...

basically, this idea has been in my head for so long i already have a general plan on how to make it interesting. damn. all i need is money at this point.

Private servers don't work. It'll die off. You need a server open to the public and with a broad array of people to make most RP settings work.

Not to mention this sounds more about firefights and loss than character development and excitement and possibilities that come from this setting. The events to be had. The scavenging. The advancements in science and even pioneering your own story for your city. Not inside say C17 but C8 for a lot more customization and flexibility.

Aka: Private servers are shit, this idea is shit and doesn't promote health rp. It's shit, just like you, Roth.

...yeah, you're right, man. guess i was just really eccentric with my idea. i dunno, man. guess i'll just uh, think of some other idea... guess they're all gonna be pretty shit anyway... "just like me"...

yeah, okay... i'll agree with you... sorry for being so silly...

  12. Private servers can work once you stop caring so much about how many people are playing. So long there's at least a small group, it can go nicely.

Problem with public servers is that any idiot is going to join and staff members are going to have to worry about dealing with them while also managing the story.

yeah, at lelast in a private server you can be settled and you don't have to "lol brb" every two seconds to deal with some new player. but w/e hipster said it was bad, so like, you know, it's a real bad idea to make a private server... like i was... i was a bad idea...

  14. Also, you guys were ranting on about private servers. If you're interested in a cool idea for "the structure of a community", which is sort of based on a bunch of different private servers, with the community being the hub for everyone to meet up and discuss, etc:
    http://steamcommunity.com/groups/novabox/discussions/0/481115363871526552/

If you want to tl;dr, just think of it this way:
Community is the place where 8 friends, a "game master", and an assistant "game master" decide they want to start a session. Fill out an application for a session. GM and assistant GM are given access to a 10 slot server, one of many. GM organizes, with his 8 friends, what times they're going to get on, and roleplay. GM and assistant GM will organize all RP, events, storyline, when to end the storyline, etc. It's pretty much how real life tabletop roleplaying is setup, but digital. People can quit the session to join another, or even do two sessions at once (since they probably won't be running at the same times), people can ask a GM to let them into a session, etc. If you can't make it to a session? Just inform your friends and it's rescheduled, or if nothing too important is going on, maybe your character is asleep while the rest of the group goes out looting? The community itself won't really be directly involved with how the server's story plays out, just provide the forums, teamspeak, and server. Think of it as a giant school with a bunch of different clubs.

Sounds good except for the part where novabox is mentioned.

Not really. HLC was about the remnants of the Combine and some Global Military Coalition something-or-other. @kurozael, you ever gonna generate schema keys for HLC?

  18. Pretty much a post-HL2 setting. I'm not sure if something like that's been done recently, but it probably hasn't worked out in the past I guess. I imagine it's pretty much like Fallout by the mechanics, such as free-for-all factions and stuff, with a HL2 theme.

  19. I once joined a ep1 server that was using cityruins. I had a lot of fun, and it was mostly centered around survival and weapon play, really fun.
