What's Flora Servers about?
Flora Servers is a Half-Life 2 Role-play community, which strives to provide an enjoyable role-play experience without anchoring problems.
Flora Servers believes that role-play should be an atmospheric experience; thus, its main foci are ambiance, and chilling interaction among characters. We invite you to join our current server, Incursion.
The Background of the Universe
The Backstory/Story-line:
January, 2016. A chilling storm has arrived.
The story of Incursion depicts a city under siege, some time in the future, where the elitist societies have since then declined, in replacement for multitudes of what one would consider the average citizen, in which the current inhabitants and community of Sector 45 having been going through many critical changes in their time.
Stemming after only several years after a notorious Seven Hour War, the course of serious implications have lead the entire city lock down its location, with policing forces of the Universal Union still ultimately holding a stiff grasp on all of those entering and leaving the city lines, in an effort to revive the days of the past.
Along with a community standing together in distress and unparalleled fear, due to a nearly unmatched terrorist organization - an opponent with eager intent on driving the city into panic - all Union accompanying forces in this sector have been fighting in a constant tug and war in District 1, leading to little more than the collapse of infrastructure and accidental ruination of human lives.
Although these turmoils continue where the average person is unable to notice, it is a clearly understood thing among most people who live within Precinct 2, the heart of the city itself, as echoing gunshots are heard every now and then to indicate another engagement. District 1 - the location of the Citadel wall, a strong work-force intake camp, and after all, the Citadels standing position, it is truth in one light or another to say that the Universal Union has full control of the situation.
In reality though, the Union does not have full control, and in truth have been paying the price for sanctioning off the entire sector. A disaster in the eyes of others if one would agree. In due time, the collapse of the city would rival other underground organizations much like the one seen in City 45's Precinct 1, in which could shape up in some additional ramifications for Wallace Breen to fix with the advising Combine officials in City 17.
City 45 - The Hub of all things:
City 45 - Precinct 2 & 1, a place for those seeking refuge from the Seven Hour War, other newly developing conflicts resulting from the major war that ended in only seven hours, and Xen lifeforms that have swallowed up most of the Earths food chain over time. The city itself has shown to be in a rough shape if looking at anywhere extending outside the notable Precincts 1 & 2. Essentially the strongest hardpoints of the city, and stationed deep in the direct center of the locality, Precincts 1 & 2 have been standing the longest, while other areas have simply dwindled away at an increasing rate. With a higher authoritative presence, and with good reason too.
These twin precincts are not only a hive of authority presence, but where the tallest structure in the city stands - a Citadel much identical to the one situated in City 17, or Wallace Breens center of control. With a incredibly close Citadel , it has made inch-by-inch progress every day in trying to eat away at a city of the past, and has in its past attempts, tried to make the city stronger like it once was with the erection of unusual alien design.
In the beginning, Precincts 1 & 2 were known to others for having a hub of very elite civic population. Important business officials and government agents wrapped their hands around these very restricted locations, burrowing themselves deep and utilizing what protection the Overwatch gave them. It was for a short time that this society prospered, but then came something else. All things come to an end, and thus some changes had pulled through and the city started to look like a hellhole and a refugee hot spot. Then came the inevitable target for terrorist organizations that flourished outside of the city. Slums started to form in the streets, as two of the richest precincts had certainly lost their touch, looking a lot like the others that fell long ago.
Factions:
Metroplex C-45 Civil Protection team(s)
"Reminder: Memory replacement is the first step towards rank privileges."
Before reading, be aware that a lot of this is W.I.P, and things I am attempting to get in order. A lot of things are already set in stone though. Civil Protection play an important role in this server, they act as the life-line for citizens. Expectations for Civil Protection are high on this server.
"The Human Aspect."
Civil Protection will hopefully come off as more Humanly than robotic or inhuman. Even what the officers do is expected to portray a human level.
"Evolution."
The Civil Protection do not simply get promoted to Overwatch Transhuman Arm. There is no Overwatch Transhuman Arm faction infact, other than the label the Overseer gets. In theory, Civil Protection will gradually become more well-equipped for situations, with better guns, better tactics. In some cases you will be Civil Protection wearing Overwatch vests ontop of their regular gear for riotings and high-priority missions. These guys will truly evolve into something they really dread overall.
"The Network."
Civil Protection and Overwatch Soldiers are a part of Overwatch as a whole; they are just 2 different branches.
Civil Protection & Overwatch Soldiers are merged together into one network, hence why you do not see a "Overwatch Transhuman Arm" faction other than the Overseer himself.
"A peaceful resolve."
Civil Protection use more peaceful, non-lethal resolves in this server.
An example is that we completely eliminated baseline units (above RCT) having lethals on them, and in most cases RCTs are not given batons. Now most CPs have either a taser, stunstick, beanbag pistol, or all the above in some cases. Any form of lethal is whitelisted on this server, keeping so CPs cannot abuse their powers, and perhaps even interrupt roleplay. My reasoning for making lethals whitelisted, is so that when a actual lethal is pulled out, discharged, etc, it will have a stronger impact on players. For example, most servers have almost all CPs with pistols, which takes away the greater importance that the guns sound has when fired, and how players will react to just the general presence of a gun being welded. I hope this made some sense to you guys, that's just my opinion of this and why it is different. A lot of people tend to not react as serious when a gun is discharged (for the obvious reasons said.)
One final note on this matter. Have you ever been tired of being charged for being 10-103M, or mentally imperfect? Even just for some minor defect you have? I'm working right now to try and resolve this issue in the server. This means there will be a long process in any amputation procedures at all. Whether this falls in 10-103M, or something entirely different.
"Privacy is security."
The Civil Protection use a system that I'm attempting to uphold, where they do detainments and executions behind closed doors. No public executions, none of that garbage. No public scolding (unless in an absolute emergency of course.)
"A Convoy is harder to sink than a single ship."
Most likely in Half-Life 2, you will not see a single officer searching and detaining a citizen. This is mainly because they work in secure teams. So as a requirement, in order to search a citizen you must have 1 other man with you. Each search team composes of 3 men, limited to 2 clearly.
"The Rank System."
Civil Protection rank system. This system works very basic. Dispatch is in full control mostly, but for the sake of a Human presence, there is the OvS or Overseer. He acts as the commander and chief of this whole ordeal. Officers are the highest ranked unit able to patrol, since the OvS is sometimes restricted due to his importance & risk of being killed out on the field. Names like Sword, Defender, etc... Here's the thing, they do not actually mean anything in this server but are just codes to identify a unit. So everybody is in the same category almost.
Here's the outline:
- The Overseer
- Written as OvS for short, the Overseer is here primarily to have a human nearby and in charge.
- Rank Leaders
- Written as OfC for short, a Rank Leader is a large step down from the Overseer, and is there to lead his squads.
- Tactical Units
- Written as TAC for short, the TAC unit wields a submachine gun, unlike the rest of the civil protection units. The TAC unit is here for crowd-control, and of course responding to emergency situations, justifying the very presence of his meat perforator.
- Baseline Units
- These are every other unit. They perform basic duties, which encapsulate the occasional patrol or backup when situations get too hot. Code-names include Defender, Line, Sword, and more; however, the code-names have no more meaning than "baseline unit", thus, there are no branches. These units are given non-lethal weapons, such as stunguns and stunsticks.
- The Recruits
- These are new guys needing training. They seem to be rather rare, and even when encountered under a blue moon, they can't a whole lot of harm.
- We do not make usage of Overwatch soldiers, as there is absolutely no situation on Incursion where they are needed.
The Citizen/Refugees
The citizen is the most common person you will meet in the server. Some coming off slightly weaker than your average well-fed C.P, these are the struggling people of society.
Citizens will normally have a number of things they can pursue in the server. Work-Force Intake, perhaps voluntary or forced by officers of the law upon entering the trainstation. Citizen roleplay is a high priority, even if there is a large focus on Civil Protection already in the server. Citizens will be able to work as vendors when licensed.
Another option to pursue is the Loyalist and Government departments. Applying to become a loyalist or government official is a hefty process, but it's something you must do if you absolutely want to obtain this privilege.
Minor IC branches are also found in the civilian faction, such as the Town Watch.
More features for citizens to come! Here's what we have now, though!
Detainment:
Detainment can be a tricky thing to enjoy in most RP servers. I'm trying my best to make sure that prison RP is top-notch. That means they will not simply sit in a cell and rot, but be told to do various things, some things even in public.
Work-Force Intake:
(This faction is merged within Citizen, there is no reason for it to be separate in the scoreboard.)
Work-Force Intake is a common term heard in Overwatch dispatch, in this server it is the reference to the intake of those willing to work in the Precinct 1 work-force intake center. Each citizen will be issued a orange jumpsuit almost similar to their blue one. Once issued that, they will make a journey with officers to the Work-Force Intake facility. Here they will work in many laborious tasks on the Citadel Wall, overall combine infrastructure, some Human infrastructure, and more to come. Those successful in their endeavors will be given promising opportunities that stretch beyond work-force intake, such as Civil Protection service and quality loyalist housing in the Precinct 2 urbania.
Loyalist Citizens
(This faction is merged within Citizen, there is no reason for it to be separate in the scoreboard.)
The loyalists are the upgrade from citizen status, with a legacy for having control over the twin precincts before the slow decline that is today.
Expectations from us
This is a serious roleplay community, we take a lot to heart. We understand drama will arise in the server, but do not let that by any means drive you away from the focal point of the server. Expect good quality roleplay elements, story developments that are W.I.P, literary elements (no cliche events such as Antlion, Zombie, or EXPLOSIONS!)
I have a style of gameplay, where passive takes presidence over action. (I hope many follow me in that) However I do understand roleplay can get boring overtime so there needs to be something to spice up the moment of sorts. Realize that these events that occur will not just spontaneously erupt in the server, they need to have some kind of reasoning to go off of. An example of an event would be a slow build up of smaller events that lead to a bigger event. (I hope you all understand what I'm trying to say here.)
Rules (Goes with expectations)
1. Metagaming: Mixing IC and OOC information together is frowned upon!
2. No cybering (Must be approved by the owner (Me) and mus be within logical reasoning, no spontaneous sex or any of that.)
3. /me your actions, remember this!
4. Do not interrupt roleplay OOCly (unless for good reason!)
5. No random killing, fighting, or anything random for that matter!
6. Racism is not tolerated.
7. Full name, serious description. Always gotta have this! (Do not have RL celebrity names, trust me on this!)
6. Roleplay is meant to be mostly passive, and not constantly fast-paced.
7. No spamming text OOC, LOOC or IC information!
8. No advertising your community. I need to be a litle centered if I want my community to be successful. Thank you for understanding.
9. Hacking in any form is forbidden!
10. Try to teach others if they are unknowing!
11. Be kind to others, be mature most of all!
12. Respond in the comments if I'm missing any. Thanks!
Notable Changes in Gamemode/Features:
- A hint of post-processing effects. A slight change of coloration, to give a more depressing outlook/ I toned the coloration down so that it is not incredibly blinding like it used to be, or incredibly dull. Also a slight blur on sides of your screen (nothing CPU sensitive!)
- Removal of CP voice commands (I did this entirely because so many servers abuse it, and this feature alone gives the illusion that C.Ps are robotic, when they are really not. Also voice spam on servers.
- No "Move it."
- No "Get out of here."
- No "Haha."
- No "Pick up that can!"
- Nada! Nothing else!
- A very flexible suit system for Civil Protection and other Union officials is also working on the server.
- Weapons that read off verdict codes upon using them. This helps units know how to judge a criminal for his behaviors.
- An example:
- "All units, verdict code is: Search, Document, Prosecute."
EDIT: Posting this for the owner. Thanks for reading guys!
EDIT: Citizens, for more description.
EDIT: Fixed formatting quite a bit! Hopefully it's more readable.
