Guitar General

Discussion in 'Other Interests' started by Mwikey, Oct 19, 2014.

  1. Who here plays guitar and what style do you play?

I've played for a few years, mainly into hard rock and metal with most of my influence coming from Megadeth styled bands.

I'll see if I can find a camera to grab a picture of my main axe, but I own a good 15.

I have one; It sucks but I'm sprucing up for a Les Paul, and I guess I'm okay at guitar, haven't touched it in awhile but just about finished mastering Cemetery Gates by Pantera.

Well except for the solo it still kicks my ass a bit.

I don't mind what I play, as long as it isn't shitty music.

    Electric and bass. Acoustic sometimes.

My bass is my dad's old Squier he got like seven years ago. It actually sounds damn good. My current electric is a dark-purple Fender with glitchy wiring so I always get a sexy feedback noise. Like waves. It sounds cool. I'm getting a teal LTD electric soon, though.

I'm into Pixie-style grunge, where it gets super loud then gets quiet.

  4. Will look through my archives when I get home (whenever that is as I am currently on the otherside of the country) and try find some of my recordings.

A lot of them are quiet with super loud chorus's, you may like them.

More of a drum guy, myself. However, I do own an acoustic. I don't remember the brand and name, but it's nice. And, well, if you count Ukuleles, I play those. I own a Kala KA, I think.

I've also wanted to learn electric. Any recommendations for a beginner?

  6. Learning electric?

Well, it all depends on the style of electric you want to play.

I mainly play metal, from metal core to death metal.

For electric, the first thing I always recommend is learning scales. Practice going up and down the neck using all 4 fingers until you can go every 4 frets up and down with no issue.

Learn how to read tabs and practice your power chords like your life depended on it. (As the finger movements and power chords are the bread and butter of electric.)

Also, start easy! It's good to want to know how to play an amazing song, but don't jump into the deep end. Work on things like AC/DC and kill me for saying it, Smoke On The Water, then move into things like Paranoid, Ironman and early Metallica. That will get you from switching power chords and double stops, bends and hammers ons straight into nice, scale based lead solo's.

Hahah, yeah Smoke on the Water is one of the best ways to start out.

I remember chilling in my bed-room trying to play that shit when I was first starting out.
