HL2RP Half-Life Universe

Discussion in 'Development' started by Spencer, Jun 7, 2015.

    Spencer Spencer Sharkey

After many years of on-off development, I've recently decided Half-Life Universe will never be the successful the Clockwork schema (or even a gamemode on its own) as it stands today. It was a great project to contribute to over the years but I think it's time to rightfully pass the content down to the community that still exists.

A link below includes a ZIP of all the schema code for Slidefuse's Half-Life Universe schema, packaged with a git repository as well for local commit history for this revision if you're interested.

You can't take this schema folder and run it on the latest Clockwork, that wasn't the intention of this release. Instead, we hope that someone can use the features found within on their own projects.

    Major features include:
    • Major GUI edits including:
      • character screen
      • character creation wizard
      • tab menu
      • entity menu (when you press E on items)
      • weapon selection
    • UI Widget system that lets you code custom GUI panels the user can move around on their context-screen (as they hold down C) with the following custom widget examples:
      • clock
      • quick-access equipment menu
    • MPF Programmatic Ranking System (might need work)
    • Custom sounds, textures, and gui theme including all the PSD's for the resources included.
    • A couple of extra items including some backpacks and test code.
    • DermaRequest library (posted ages ago on these fourms)
    • Some accessory fixes for parented items
    • A bunch of unfinished but useful snippits like:
      • An easy way to add property commands (when you right-click an entity while holding down C)
      • a few tests for day/night with skypaint entity
      • apartments (very rough code)
      • a script to render sexy item icons to convert to png's for use with the inventory menu/anywhere an item icon is used

Everything can be found within the single schema gamemode folder. This was written with the schema development mindset, so we didn't end up overriding core Clockwork code.

Enjoy! We hope that some of this work gets implemented around the community if they deem it fit or can get it working with the latest clockwork code base. This is by no means meant to be taken and placed into an existing Clockwork run-time, it won't work!

<This is fine and allowed but just waiting for Spencer's response to just make a few adjustments.>

As always, feel free to add me on Steam if you have any regards or questions. I can try to answer as best I can.

Finally, I wish to thank the following people who have contributed to HLU. Without them the project wouldn't of gotten nearly as far as it has.

Here's some content of the things I've recorded over the years. It's surely not all of it, but it's bits and pieces you might be able to stitch together. I'll update this post with more as I find it.

I'm also going to note, that a lot of this was done a long time ago when this was started, I don't know what I was thinking when I implemented some of that code. There was a point when I had an HTML chatbox with tabs for different chat classes including PMs... It was actually pretty good but I scrapped it until I decided I could leverage chat with Websockets and an extra server nodejs runtime to handle the connections.

Don't know if that's included in this HLU revision. Might be in the git history but you can see it at the end of one of those videos I posted.

Thinking about all this makes me want to actually work on something awesome again.

I don't care about Spencer posting his code for educational purposes, my only concerns are the posting of HL2 RP code and the negative discussion here about Cloud Sixteen's intentions -- so please just keep this civil, I am gonna be allowing Spencer to post his code, just don't want him posting code that we're selling which I think is fair, so as long as he makes a few adjustments this is fine with us.

If he's releasing the half life 2 code, why not make a ling on the store for the extra coding? for people who bought hl2rp already?

Would anyone be willing to make a plug in out of all the data provided by Spence? I have proof of purchase for my cwhl2rp, and I'd be willing to pay for the work. I just want it all converted as plug ins if possible.

  17. What do you mean? It's a gamemode.. i am not sure you can put a gamemode/schema into a plugin/s...? :S

The layout is all exactly the same, it's just the matter of cutting out all the excess, then putting PLUGIN instead of Schema.

    That simple.

Only not simple for me. .-. XD
But yeah, I doubt anyone is going to volunteer. SO I can see if anyone is willing to convert it for pay I suppose.
