hearts of iron IV

who hyped up to bring back the third reich once again

 

Is it good? I got HoI 3 in a sale but it seemed too difficult to play for me.

 

I've watched like 4 hours of HoI4 lets plays and all the developer world war Wednesday streams.

It's a lot easier to play then hearts of iron 3 without removing any of the fun shit from it (long time Hearts of Iron 3 player, played it before Europa Universalis 4) they streamlined some of the mundane stupid shit from HoI 3 including the needlessly complex and useless espionage system, simplified the chain of command for armies, no more corps HQs, batallaions that kinda shit. You got divisions and you got Generals and shit.

Trade is 100% important now and not something you can just automate. Supply is easier to manage and look at, convoys and naval invasions are easier to use. Navies are incredibly important and air superiority as well. Also easy to use and manage.

Ending wars is a lot better, while still having the old capitulating system from HoI3 in addition to a fuck tactic awesome peace menu that allows you to take land at the end of a war according to how much you've contributed to it.

World Tension is a lot better then a broken and stupid threat system. You can form your own factions not just Allies, Axis, and Comintern. Any government can be swapped from whatever it's at to Democratic, Fascist, Communist (even the USA and Britain.)

It's hearts of iron 3 with a good amount of depth without any of the useless shit.

woo just played about 10 hours of it.
gonna go take a break here's some highlights of two campaigns I did

 

@Songbird and I did a multiplayer sesh yesterday and we formed our own faction,
Songbird as Italy and me as Fascist France.


The multiplayer works so well and it's unreal how smooth it is. We were capable of playing on Speed 4 without any sort of issues despite being thousands of miles apart.

 

I'M A GOD

 

I would play a C16 HOI4 match, but generally when C16 multiplayer shit is discussed its hype then it just doesn't happen.

Huge fan of Crusader Kings and Europa Universalis, do you guys recommend HoI? I've been meaning to get it, but I've been putting off learning more about it, so any advice?

 

if you've never played hearts of iron 3 you'd enjoy it. Lots of old hearts of iron 3 players bitching and moaning about how they made the game easier to play and how it lost all its depth

It's sorta barebones right now but a couple updates and it'll be even better

oh that's the resistance map mode i left it on cuz the finns were getting mad about my commie rule

 

I played an absolutely insane game as India. Since you can't convert Fascism without civil war, I was stuck as a Democracy and couldn't save myself from WW2 when China finally capitulated to Japan. With my relatively spread thing army which had an astounding lack of supply, I was very surprised when I firmly held the Burmese-Siamese and Indian-Chinese border for around three years before the Japanese finally broke through. Due to my army being completely scattered and ill-equipped, I gave up once the Japanese took Bengal and Burma.

Europe was.. strange. The Soviets pushed well into the West before the Germans could even push into the lands they gifted to the Soviets during Poland's partition. They managed to get to the city of Poznan and stopped right outside Vienna when the Germans stopped the Red Army in it's tracks. France held out for a very long time, the only reason they fell was because the Spanish opened up a third-front and spread the French defence thin. France soon capitulated but a united front of Irishmen, Frenchmen and Belgians was established in Britanny and they would not be defeated. It was a beautiful act of defiance.

I love this game, even just watching it play out without playing it is dope.

 

The AI sucks at warfare, hardest war for my Denmark campaign was Me Versus Sweden.

They outnumbered me 3:1 but I ended up with like 5k casualties and they soared into the 200k

maybe it's my HoI3 experience or the AI really does suck



they started with like 30 - 40 divisions but they didn't last long

Also people's republic of China is fun to play. Every time you get the commie party in China to about 49% they secede a whole state to you, and the commie support drops

 

I heard that it was, yeah.

And yeah, the AI sucks but when they outnumber and have better trained and better supplied troops than you there's nothing you can do.
