[HL2RP2] Some suggestions and hopes, debates..

Discussion in 'Discussion' started by Equi, Jan 4, 2012.

  1. (I hope this is the good forum for this thread, and if it's not, thank for move it)

    Hello there,

I'll try to be short, but at first, a quick introduction : I'm a community manager collaborating since 2 years with Loucouss -a customer of yours- and as such I'm eager to see your new HL2RP gamemode released, but I'm also seeking to improve your work by suggesting some proposals/requests, calling some tiny changes/extensions who'll take for a expert like you less than an hour. I don't want to disturb you, I'm rather sure you're annoying by dozens of men like me each day, but I hope my position will legitimate my speech.

    Animations/Emotes
There are plenty of Valve's animations which still unused, when they could enhanced realism. I didn't write a list yet -waiting for your answer-, but some are very interesting (like a special “sprinting” animation instead of increase frequency of “running” animation.
Of course you don't need emotes to roleplay, it's really to enhanced realism so immersion in-game, what differentiating a good from a bad roleplay.

    !a
Type !a (or /a) to send a message to every admins connected.
It's a kind of gadget, but it's very usefull indeed. searching who's admin on the scoreboard is annoying, usually 90% of admin call are done on the OOC channel, disturbing immersion of every single player.

    DRM
Please... please ! Make your script inviolable ! I'm just sick to see that today every DarkRP communities are currently running OpenAura, ruining HL2RP (and other mods) roleplay's reputation. If some of us are buying your gamemodes, above for the quality of theses, it's for keep the exclusivity of running serious real hl2rp. So by respect for yourself, for the good of us and of every gmod player, think seriously about installing a excellent DRM.

    Hemorrhagic system/near to death state
I do recall there is already a function like this, but it's pretty random, and no one know there is a such state. To be quick : you hit by bullet or by a sharp weapon, you bleed. Instead of dying when your health drop to 0%, when it reaches 5% (or more, or less) you enter on a “near to death state”, you fall in a specific ragdoll animation -there are 2 animations from HL² you can see when you're driving throw the coast to Odessa- (or just /fallover, so friends could carry you out of danger), you cannot move, your vision go blurry, you can speak but cannot shout, and the only way to save you is to have bandageS and a good medical skill, which set your chance to stop blood lose (no animation needed, just a progress bar).

    Bubbles Chat (IC chat only)
If you have to pay attention to only one of my suggestion, it's this one. For have been playing for years on your gamemode, I've always been expecting a clearer chat system. The current chatbox is too small, and rapidly overcrowded when you are in a close environment or more than 3. You miss many sentences and you often have to scroll up for a previous one, you forget who actually spoke... Really annoying indeed.

So in my dream I've been imagining a “Bubbles Chat” system to fixed this. Decent dark-translucent boxes pop-uping above the head of players. When someone is speaking behind you, the bubble will pop up on the very top border of the screen, and will be widther and less height. The form/colour/texture of bubbles will depend on the nature of the speech.
I underline this would be only used for IC speaking, emotes and OOC texts will stay on the chatbox.
You noticed that I'm obsess by immersion, because it's for me the really aim of a roleplaying game : forget who you are and enact your virtual avatar.

This list is non-exhaustive, others will come, I'm open to debating so please -other members (focused on HL2RP)- fell free to give your opinion.

    Regards.

I like it.</span></div>

  3. The admin request should be easy. I like the bubble idea, as long as it\'s something players can toggle.<div>Regarding the DRM, it is quite hard to make a proper defense when you run on Lua, since it\'s open-source, with the exception of the dll files, but even if Conna were to write some of the necessary functions and the verifier tool into one of these, it is still possible to reverse engineer and remove this verifying tool, much like pirates do with cracked game executable.</div><div>
</div><div>It\'s only a question of how long it takes for someone to buy it and take the time to crack it...</div>

Bescharlie Im on the right, sucha pretty little boy ;&#039;)

WOW DUDE! i love your bubble chat suggestion! sounds wicked!

    <div>
</div><div>What you said about bleeding however is VERY intresting and opens a good concept. I cant help but think it would be pretty cool to have it so that if a player is hit with a bullet or with a sharp object at all - he starts to bleed!</div><div>
</div><div>When he is then bleeding he could be loseing 1 health every 1-5 seconds, depending on how bad the wound was.</div><div>
</div><div> , In the buisness tab you could have cheap and easyily affordable rags. these will stop bleeding but not help you recover.</div><div>
</div><div>You could then have more expensive bandages that stop bleeding and help you recover at a steady rate!</div><div>
</div><div>If someone was bleeding they could have rapidly exhausted stamina aswell.</div><div>
</div><div>Yeah anyway i could go on about this for hours but i really liked that idea!!!! and wondered if any of my thoughts could help. :)</div><div>
    </div><div>
    </div>

  5. Hey,

If the blood loss will depend on the severity of the wound, I think it should take between 5 to 30 minutes before to lead to a “near to death” state. No one must die without bringing interest to the roleplay, and in a fight you\'re not necessary focused on the injured.

Bandages/Rags (not sterile :s), well, those are details. But I maintain that the probability to stop the hemorrhage must depend on the medical player\'s skill. It will make this ability more attractive, and will bring more realism -even if you have a ton of bandages, when you don\'t know with artery you should compress the man still bleed.

Considering your words about DRM, it\'s... disappointing. The really efficient weapon against pirates are definitely Gmod\'s updates =/

I like the Chat Bubbles idea, I\'m pretty sure Python and CapsAdmin have something similar to this on their Metastruct server.

I wouldn\'t worry about the DRM, there was enough talk of it on Facepunch. Although I\'ve been the one working on the DRM module and there really isn\'t anything bad about it. You\'re right that reverse engineering was done on the previous ones and that it\'s harder because it\'s lua.

  7. Only thing to do about the DRM is to report it to the company hosting their servers, and hopefully they will take action.

  8. Did it already work ?

I\'ve absolutely fallen in love with the Chat Bubbles idea, I\'m defo going to make this a Clockwork plugin.

    • Funny Funny x 1
  10. Glad to see you enjoy these ideas. No need to worry about the other proposals: I’ve already plugined’ them on OA, I’ll be able to do same for CW.

Some more suggestions, a little bit more futile but which will increase realism:
    • When we sit on chair as a Combine/CP, your characters kneel on the chair and put its arms like for aiming, which look weird. I’m not sure there is such an animation for CP, I’m going to check it. Also when you sit as a citizen, your character bend is back, which is poor credible in some situation –formal meeting, administrator speech, etc-
    • A very tiny easy change to fix a very annoying problem: make the toolgun silent. http://www.garrysmod.org/downloads/?a=view&id=49885
    • Make other physgun\'s beams invisible but not the player\'s one.

PS : About emote, no need to add 15 more. The only one I\'d like seeing add is this in which you lie face to the ground and arms behind the head.

  11. I demand some form of cider.<div>
</div><div>EDIT: Included with corvettes and drug labs. :D</div>

  12. n0t enuff gunz in haf life too roalplay. i think there shuld b like ak47s and m16s taken frum conter strike. haf life 2 roalplay iz to uptite and serius. alot of peeple dont like it cuz itz like tht and peeple like me find it boaring to play cuz itz so slow and so boaring. more gunz and more violence so it maches the wurld 2day.

  13. Screw you Audio ;)

Regarding the DRM, Clockwork will be free, the only thing that will cost some money is a pre-made schema. So I don\'t know if Conna/Alex plans to put licensing on that, and how.

  14. @Audio : You clearly don\'t understand what roleplay is. Considering your grammar skill I\'ll not waste my time to teach you, I\'ll just say (to you and to all whose looking like you) that : It\'s not a shame. If you want guns, deads, drugs, kill some policemen and play into a mafia, forsooth there is a ton of game designed to you (GTA, PERP, DarkRP, CSS, Phase Four). You will be merrier than here, and you will find more entertainment. Don\'t waste your precious life time on \'serious\' roleplaying games as Hl2rp.

@TalkingWaterfall : It makes no doubt that they will protect their schemas. And as I said I know nothing about DRM. I just know that we are in 2012, and there must exist a way to protect a .lua.

  15. Uhm, I doubt there is. As I also said before, even big gaming publishers like EA have pretty much given up on preventing people to crack it, because even though their files are closed-source, cracked .exe\'s come out just a few days after release of a game. Then we have Lua, which is 100% open-source, with the exception of the dll files, which the crackers can just reverse engineer. So it\'s only a question of time... And honestly I think we were lucky with OA taking so long to get cracked.

  16. What if you keep IP/Steam ID backdoors on the .lua files, and then compile them so that no one could edit them anymore ?

Google search : XtreamLua Compiler 0.2
    Seems to work.

  17. That\'s not possible. You would have to make them unreadable, but then Garry\'s Mod won\'t be able to read them either.

  18. Forsooth, that\'s not what coders using this compiler say, but again I\'m not a expert on the subject. Gonna try this software. .

  19. Obviously, if Garry\'d Mod is able to decrypt it, a hacker will be able to decrypt.

  20. Also, reading up on the subject, that application only encrypts it so you can\'t read it with a word editor such as Notepad, but you just need the correct reader app. Which means Garrys Mod won\'t be able to use it. Next to that, compiling Lua is against the license of Lua, stating that it must be open-source.
