[HL2RP2] Some suggestions and hopes, debates..

    Make it as complex as your playerbase allows it. If you have a bunch of squads, and not enough people to actually populate them, then it just seems pointless. I do agree that they do need a little bit more to do than stand around and patrol, but that isn\'t really something that needs coding.
     
  2. I fully agree with Mavado : All things does not have to be coded. The very fundamental purpose and rule of roleplaying are contained in a word : Freedom, at the opposite of regular games where you are limited by a pre-scripted story, or a code, or what so ever.

    And for a huge majority of servers, there not enough players to permit as much of scripted teams. Then people get isolated into their faction, and slowly but surely the game die.

    I agree with the DMR, But cant you copyright it in a way as i've saw copyright codes on some gamemodes like perp, Then you could report this to the server hoster and their forum / File / website will be suspended.

    Regarding the MPF Ranks / Divisions, If a community wants to run HL2RP, They will usually think up the divisions and suit it to them. I ran a HL2RP community for about 6 months, And we changed our 4 divisions and 2 sub divisions all the time, It all depends on the playerbase and whats best for the Combine.

    Alternativelly, You could put a menu in for the SeC to edit how many numbers are in a CP's name and so on.
     
  4. In my old server, we had plenty of things for them to do. We had the MPF start doing ration distribution again, for example. Instead of just randomly patrolling, they were allowed to do things interactively. Honestly, we held to the HL2 canon, but we also made it fun. Yeah, you can have it as realistic as possible, but it should still be fun.

    To me, having a full resistance with MP7's and tons of ammo is NOT fun, so we didn't have one. We didn't even make one, the citizens did it themselves. This makes it realistic for the MPF, too, because they have no idea who is in the resistance.

    I don't know man...
    If some one typed a message and he directly runs away you wont be able to see what he typed oocly and/or said icly.

    There has to be some more tweaks in it to make it an actual new feature if you ask me.
     
  6. Actually yes because it'll be only for IC chat.

    It's an addon. Even if it's not activated, IC (and OOC) chat will still be displayed on the chatbox.

    What about chat + bubble?
    So you can still see what he said if he runs away.

When you say something icly, it will be written in the chatbox (the same -I guess- than in the previous versions) AND (if you activate the addon which is desactivable at any time), your message will be also displayed in a 3D2D text bubble near the speaker's head -The position and the visibility of this bubble will depend on your position to him -mainly the range (if you are able to hear him/her whispering/yelling) and on what you are actually looking at : If you are very close to your interlocutor, ie you only see his/her head, then the position of the bubble will be adapted to be always readable -and so you don't have to look 1m above his/her head to read what he/she said. If someone is talking in your back, then the bubble will appear -for exemple- in the very top -or down- of your screen, and will change to a 'normal' bubble -in 3D2D text near the head- only if you're looking at the speaker.

    It's not easy to figure out, I'm confident in the coders to find a suitable solution. Maybe I should add some doodles to make this clear.

    Why a chat bubble? I see that blocking my view if im close to the person. I'd suggest maybe just a more visible, bold text that maybe has an effect so it flashes or fades from very bright (Maybe with a glow radius) to dim.

    The fade could also work with range as it would simulate you not being to hear people aswell from so far away, rather than not hearing at all.

  11. Chat bubbles size will be function of your distance to the speaker. If you are very close, the bubble is smaller. More far, bigger.

    Your idea to have the chat contrast depending on your range won't work and is annoying. You hear, or you don't hear, but you don't have to waste 10 sec to decrypt what a player said.

    What about something like :

    Player 1 says ::> Hey, wait for me!

    and that player 2 (who is running away) will see :
    Player 1 says ::> Hey, w... f.. me!

    And so on.

  16. i know a lot of MMOs have the bubble chat idea but it reminds me of a game i used to play when i was younger called runescape you had a chatbox that you could scroll in but their writing would also popup above their head in yellow text

    anyway i think its a good idea
     
  17. I just thought about it : what about adding some CP units' animations/gestures as "Attention" stance, or "At ease" stance (and of course making CP able to sit on seats too) ? Would be great, wouldn't it ?

    Edit : Never, I have just done it.
