HL2RP Horizon Gaming

Introduction:​

Horizon Gaming is a Half-Life 2 Roleplay community that was put into concept back in January of 2016. The goal was simple. Instead of factions being the forefront of the roleplay (where if you were not in a faction, you missed out), let us make it entirely geared towards the citizens. With this, we set out with a basic battle plan. Create the world first and populate the world second (Simple right?). We are no "Great new idea!" or "Best HL2RP in the community" or "Savior of HL2RP". No, that is not what we are. We are a group of friends, who want character development to be the focus of HL2RP. Not 24/7 violence, not edgy Civil Protection and ego filled Admins.

"Why Join You?"

We don't have any flashy new plugins/addons. We don't have any custom map or awesome cool guns. Instead, we think you should join us because we believe that if you want to join a server where citizens are not just "walking simulators" and actually have meaningful conversations over a cup of coffee or play pool with a few people, you can. Play pool, play basketball, listen to the piano and much more being added every week!

Qualifications:​

Just as a bit of background into the Administration. We currently have two Superadmins, one with 8+ years of HL2RP (Dawning back to when HL2DM was used). The other has around five years. One of our potential Admins has around 2+ years of experience as well.

The citizens are capable of doing many things in Horizon Gaming. If you actually put time and work into it and develop a strategy of making it successful, it will happen. You can even make a political party that works to get you into the City Administrator position! As for the economy, it is controlled by stamps instead of tokens (Kinda like how food stamps use to be like before they went plastic). You can buy clothing to customize your looks, buy drugs in a shady alleyway, split the bill on two coffees between you and a friend and much more. Apartments are usually assigned by the Civil Protection to force you to live with random people. The best thing? No stupid forum applications that are longer than most job applications. You walk in, you present your roleplay ability and see how it goes. It's that simple! Be what YOU want to be!

One of the biggest changes we made was towards the Civil Protection. We think augments are stupid (personally) and we completely hate the edgy "Put on uniform and instant Darth Vader Menace of Violence". You can have an actual human personality. No more edginess! (Goodbye!). The Civil Protection are no longer armed to the teeth. They have a sidearm, a few mags and zipties as the entire force's standard. Higher tier equipment is locked up incase of an ACTUAL emergency. If they want to live, they need to think smart and work as a team. That or befriend the citizen populace. There is so much more to tell but I shall let you see it for yourself.

As for it's structure, it is very simple.

• Ranks go from RCT to SqL (RCT, i5, i4, i3, i2, i1, EpU, SqL, DvL). There is no Sectorial (It has no real purpose to us technically).
• Each group of eight is a GPT (Ground Protection Team). It is lead by a single SqL and a single EpU as is Assistant.
• For every three squads, there is one Division Leader.
• Civil Protection are governed by the same rules as the Resistance groups. 1 Life. 1 Death. PK follows.

Both of these factions are hot topics in roleplay communities. Their usage and behavior vary greatly from one community to the next. At Horizon, there is no official resistance. There is no admin gangbang in some hidden fort guarded by a "No Metaming" sign. The Civil Protection can practically go wherever THEY please! To be part of the Resistance, you must first make it. Gain friendships through the populace. Work your way up from grafitti and trade to muggings and defense patrols.

As for the Overwatch, we don't like using them. The Civil Protection should be able to handle 90% of what it faces; And that is with basic equipment. If they do get deployed, don't expect to see them most of the time. Speed and efficiency is their key and Overwatch Soldiers should be more rumor than reality. To become an Overwatch Soldier, you must spend time in the Civil Protection up to i1 and then you can submit yourself to undergo off-site training to become one of the finest.

Canon:​

The story follows the resurgence of life in a once abandoned industrial hub of the greater City Seventeen region. The city was abandoned for several years for reasons not quite clearly known (even to the Civil Protection who enlist there or get transferred there). After three years, the word comes down to revive this ancient industrial complex. You are among the first to enter. Ahead of you is a concrete wall that once sealed the trainstation off from the city. As you approach, the wall can be clearly seen to be busted open. The city has new life flowing into it. Like the city, this is a chance to start a new life. With a possibly surging drug trade, a dangerous crumbling environment and the possibility of gangs, this is going to be interesting. Welcome, don't mind the trash.

Sounds cool. I was aiming for something similar but decided to switch to something else.
I would join but I have a community but even so I may hop on for a little while at some point.

Thread looks pretty neat! Might check it out. (This is irrelevant, but maybe you could center those images/titles, you got like 2 images centered then the rest aren't, haha.) I checked out your forums. Careful on those Super Administration applications, seems like a bit much to just throw out there like that. Good luck!

Totally understandable. Our application process is stringent as we possibly can (as we review it for over a week and monitor your activities as much as possible).

So essentially combining the squad/division/etc with the rank?

 

I think he means little to no authority within the force, with the taglines only being used for identification purposes instead of assignment.

Pretty much, this:
"HERO-9" (don't find prefixes nor suffixes useful, guess you could be like: "17:4.HERO-9")
looks a lot better than this:
"CCA-C17.JURY-EpU.12345"
The numbers being kinda useless when instead of being all "Hey, 12345." you can just be like, "Hey, JURY/JURY-9/Nine."

 

I like the idea! Could you all consider putting this in our suggestions section of the forums on the website so it can be looked at by everyone in the community?

 

I'd say to post @Omega 's metropolice force guide, that's pretty solid and i love it.
