  1. After countless days of playing hl2rp all servers seem to be repetitive with the same ideas. I'm curious what you guys would want on an hl2rp server that would make you actually want to play on it consecutively and enjoy in doing so. What are some necessities that you may consider for a successful and very fun and attractive server? I have a large amount of administrative experience of this game mode but no matter what I do to make a change to the game mode either the server fills with bad people destroying the player base or people just stop joining due to losing interest. I feel as if hl2rp in its self is dying due the colossal decrease in creativity. I'm just curious what you guys have to say about this and what needs to be done differently.

My point still stands as to; Why bother?
C16 should move to a new platform. Maybe even standalone. Blah blah.

Fussing over Hl2rp and acting like C16 can do much is just silly.

    Another point I should make.

No one wants to play a citizen. It should be a slow build up, citizen should be a gateway point to something. Be it a cute little rebellion, a black market trade group or even MPF!

Players shouldn't shun them. Same with admins. You should root for them to try to find guns and make friends and so on. Walking around and doing nothing but casual is dull. I love action. So do others.

if you want a good hl2rp server you ban the cancerous people and let in the good people

it's usually the type of players you get which will determine how fast your servers falls down stairs.

also no fuCKING ADMINS THEY'RE ALWAYS RETARDED

The patch I'm gonna work on might help maybe but as for the actual community who knows

As for a standalone HL2 RP game, it's a good idea and one I've considered...

    "Revive"

Implying that the HL2RP community is dead.

It's just at a bad point with a lot of servers because a lot of inexperienced and dumb people are playing it/running it. We can only hope that these people get a bit smarter.

We're kicking a dead dog while trying to get it to come back to life. HL2RP can't be saved by any one community or ambitious player, or by the community, purely because it's become a lot less of a cult-thing. RP used to be small, there was a good big handful of great communities to choose from and people were welcoming to other people who wished to learn. Now, it's a much bigger, saturated and deserted community, with RP 'companies' like LemonPunch and SCG coveting their players, and no amount of nostalgic re-runs of old communities or 'vanilla' servers will ever capture that essence. I agree with @TheHipster, since we're not going to get it back, it's time we did something new. A standalone HL2RP platform would make RP even more popular and legitimate. The RP community will continue to be saturated, and there's no sense posting vague nonsense like 'how do we save it guys?!'

It's time we faced the truth. :(

Plus, I mean, it'd make it a lot easier to explain to people. "Yeah, I play that Clockwork RP game that just came out on Steam." > "Yeah, I'm apart of a serious roleplaying community on a really irrelevant source mod game."

  16. Honestly, Half Life 2 was fun mainly for the "fight the powa" sort of feel that made you the "one". Nobody likes wandering around and getting beat by the Combine, no matter how much "character development" that can happen because of getting bossed around and becoming a Loyalist and shit. It's all about being a rebel.

I feel as if a more individualized experience that focused on those same key aspects in the half life universe would be an extremely satisfying experience, for example, @Pistol P 's server (as mentioned in my other thread) is a prime example of an "individualized" experience. Something more profound and designed-- with less people and the lack of a need to satisfy the "public", something more sharp and interesting can be created, especially when that group of people are close-knit as a "private" community. Along with this, the main aspect behind the server is a small group versus the combine force-- quite a special arrangement from a player's point of view.

I remember the first time I got sucked into HL2RP, it was because the server welcomed me and made it feel like I was part of something and getting something done. That was fun and all, but my first time in the slums was the nail in the coffin. It was pretty fuckin adrenaline pumping when you hear word of a slums sweep and you gotta hide in cover.

There really isn't some sure way to make people interested in HL2RP. Being friendly to them and at least trying to go over and RP as well as giving them something to do, like a work cycle is pretty much all you can do.

  19. I agree. Players need action and as a citizen things need to constantly flowing otherwise the population will die off. When I co-owned Kryptonic Gaming we managed to keep the citizen characters significantly entertained and always had action occurring in the server. Unfortunately, Cancerous people of the community were not banned accordingly and caused everything to go to hell. I appreciate everyone's comment on this topic and my most important goal for the next hl2rp community will be erasing the capitalistic industry bullshit of the resent communities and bringing constant action to ALL players of the server and most importantly create a server for the people of the community and what they want along with bringing back the good old days of hl2rp before cancerous servers such as lemonpunch.

  20. What if play to win, s2k, and lowering /me's in combat situations? Not only will it increase the flow of game play but cause fate to rely on the players skill rather than random fate or 'IC my char is bettr than u :p'. I feel as if all of the s2m p2l etc factors cripple the game mode and causes countless arguments. Even though it is a serious rp game, creating a more casual atmosphere not only brings more players but in my opinion is a more enjoyable experience. I'm not saying, "Lets create a Dark RP autism deathmatch server." that's the last thing we need. Obviously the seriousness would still be enforced to follow the hl2 lore as much as possible allowing the player to feel immersed in such an interesting environment in the half-life universe.
