Cider Two I remember there being an official Cider Two server but...

Why did it die? I remember it having a decent server population, and I don't think it was DDoSed to death.

  2. I'm pretty sure the population dropped off.

  4. Anyone know the whereabouts of the guy who claimed he was developing for Cider Two? He dropped off the face of the earth and I haven't seen him since. I think he was recognized as an official developer too. This has to be a year or two ago.

  5. I remember who you're talking about. If I can recall the gamemode was pretty broken, he probably gave up. I think he was in college to so he probably didn't have much time to himself.

That kid never seemed like he was all there either, he was kinda odd. Even for c16. He never really showed any progress either, just kept talking about "big updates" with no support to back it up.

OT: Daddy Sly decided to visit again, how are my children?

SatoshiAaron, and afaik he made little to no progress on C2 other than implementing some plugins he created into the gamemode.

He literally just went off the grid and never contributed to anything, aside from saying hello once after like 8 months of a hiatus.

I dunno if he's still there, I haven't been in the thingy thangy in a while.

  9. Strange. Nonetheless, thanks.

Wooo... I haven't been here in ages.
Basically when I purchased Cider 2, I didn't really know what to expect. It had little to no features that made the gamemode enjoyable. There was very little to do. At this time me and friends had just been apart of a PERP community that closed its doors and we wanted to make our own. PERP is in a very bad condition and can be a bitch to work with. I thought working on Cider 2 would be much easier due to it being on a framework and it was... Much easier! When I started working on Cider 2 I actually made a fair bit of progress in terms of restructuring teams and adding some new content. I added cars, weapons, items, etc. Things were going rather well... It was at this point I hit my first obstacle

HL2RP was a easier case in this sense... Cider 2 would require a lot of custom content. Cars, Player Models, Items, etc. HL2 content already exists in Garry's Mod due to it being based of Half Life 2 itself. HL2RP can directly use the content Gmod already has. Cider 2 didn't have content already available to it. While I had already incorporated them into the game I noticed this could be a problem which was also brought to my attention by the other developers. Some of this stuff was content other people had created and it could be a challenge getting their permission to use the content. If they knew we were selling the schema they would most likely want a part of the money. This would mean there would be too much money going to different people meaning it wouldn't be profitable.

Now in the case that we did get permission to use the content for free, it would also be a problem as people would need to download up to 2GB of files, probably more. That is just as much as Garry's Mod itself is. It is so much content to download. Also taking into consideration the content that server owners themselves would most likely want to add.

The second problem was, people were already enjoying other gamemodes that had everything Cider 2 had and would have. Things like PERP and different CityRP variants were going well, also the release of Santos RP was rather big itself. Since then more RP gamemodes have cropped up and player based on some servers have halved. At the end of the day, the question was "Would people actually want to play?" "Why would they start again on the exact same thing?". We couldn't be sure that it would get a player base. Now some may argue that this would depend on what the community was like and how they managed the players.

I would like to also bring up LemonPunch's EURP. It was an awesome gamemode, it was more or less a vision of what Cider 2 was or was meant to be. The community was good and so was the gamemode... What went wrong? People already had alternatives to EURP that they were enjoying. There was no point in moving to EURP. This more or less discouraged the development of the gamemode.

Round to my last point: School. I was in my last year of school. I was completing my GCSE exams which I desperately needed to get into the Lift Engineering position I wanted. I had to focus hard, it was a very stressful time for me. I more or less halted all development so I could study and stuff. When I finished my exams I just wanted to rest. Even after the rest period, I just didn't want to face the task... I knew it would have been tiring and I just didn't think it would work out at the end of the day.

As my conclusion, I felt as though it wasn't a viable idea. Cider 2 would most likely not be as successful as it would have been back in the day. It's time had passed and it's future already existed in further advanced forms. One thing that Cider 2 does still have is sleekness. Cider 2 is based on a Framework which is a massive benefit and would definitely help in the back end, in return helping keep it clean and unique. Features would be easier to add.

As a final note, I don't discourage anyone from buying Cider 2 and working with it. In this way you can add as much custom content as you want since it is your own server. I can't promise success and I can't promise it will be easy but it is always worth a try. If you are going to create a roleplay gamemode though, I always recommend doing it on a framework. Then effectively all you are doing is adding content rather than coding loads of confusing stuff. (although it does require some coding, don't get me wrong.)

If you do go forward with developing your own gamemode or Cider 2 server, I wish you much luck. Sorry I disappointed so many people.
