Hello my name is NyteRev and I'm a Head Admin of the Impulse-Gamers: HL2 RP server. Now to be honest, I can't really say were one of those top tier server with flying robots around the street or cool user interfaces that allow player to play a game of pong on a Combine Terminal, sorry I don't know how to do those stuff, I'll be willing to learn which I'm always am... and I saw your guys awesome development which I'm actually pretty grateful for so thanks for that. But back on topic, yeah were not really one of those high tech servers, so sorry to burst anyone bubble if there looking for something like that, maybe in the future it can happen.

Our community slowly gradually fell from having around 5-15 players per day, to around 1-5 players once and while which isn't really that good compared to back then when the server started. Our community although doesn't like the idea having a completely serious game-mode which is hard to compensate for the very seriousness that is Half-Life 2 RP, we try our best as admins... which consist of around 5 regular admins and as well as some global admins from our community.

Why should I join your server?:

It's really up to the player to find out why they want to join the server, just for the curiosity of seeing how a community plays the gamemode. I do have to say that I did try to implement different ways of playing this gamemode because to tell you the truth, I went to multiple Half-Life 2 RP server, and literally try to make some Role-play attempts while studying hows theses players enjoy the gamemode, and what makes them interested in it and our server is both and in-character and out of character application server... Now to tell you a background story, My community originally had a Half-Life 2 Deathmatch RP server, which is sorta like a downscale of the DarkRP server, and some of you might be like... "OMG, DARKRP.... WEE WOO WEE WOO". But since I was dealing with my community members first, I did wanted to make a way for them to cope with the gamemode... So instead of thoses other RP servers I went too. Citizens will have assigned apartments, rather than pressing F2 on a empty door in an apartment complex. I didn't like the idea that citizens were allowed to just press a button on the door without going through an RP experience to get the apartment. So we actually did an assigned apartment and literally all apartments are designed exactly the same... same layout, same structure, same furniture. The only thing is different is the objects your character gains over the course of time on our server. This also help us implement our server to give curfews and inspections when we choose to. However, like I said before we slowly gradually lost player count, and we barely perform them now.

Another thing we did was instead of just allowing players to get jobs from Civil Protection, we also allow players to actually get part-time jobs as citizens. I like this idea because it gave players a chance to make a application by the CWU Head Quarters and then going through a interview process, hence giving citizens more of a chance to gain some work while inside the city, make a little bit of tokens, and make some friends too. Which helps enforce passive RP, but yet again. The type of community I'm working with doesn't really like the idea of going to a lot of details and creating backgrounds story. If you wants to apply for a permanent job however, they will have to apply on the forums. Sorry for those who bummed out on that note, but it's something we need to do to keep organization on the server, the application on the forums will be treated as a In-Character application as all applications should. Same rule applies for Civil Protection.

We tried to add a lot of stuff to make sure it feels like Half-Life 2 to the best of our capability and how we see the game-mode. Mainly I try to base the game-mode around Chapter 1 of Half-Life 2 and you have no idea how much time consumption I went through with noclip to try to get a better understand of the citizen life in Half-Life 2 and try to work around it. We have the Vortigaunt faction equipped onto the server thanks to RJ, however because of the server progress we never actually got to use it.
Our server basically is low on players, we may need some new Civil Protection and CWU's. I'm yet to accept nor deny that fact. But it may be possible.

Now for download information because some people are actually curious how much mb/gb does a server have and how much of there Hard Drive is being taken up...

    Steam Workshop Download: 202.425 Megabytes
TnB Pack(Optional and is provided by Taco N Banana Community) : 749.38 Megabytes
So total is approxmately: 202.425 MegaBytes - 951.805 Mega Bytes

See, you didn't have to lift a finger. Here the Steam Workshop if your wondering about the downloads:

Please note: Most of theses are used for props to allow us to make dynamic effects during events, we recently had a moment when a meteor fell from the sky and damaged a certain part of the city. They we created set up simple scaffolding and allow citizens to work at a construction site, if they had the right qualifications. We were going to use them for Rebellion also to setup some traps and damage some land of the city, but again same problem was originally stated.

What do we expect from you?:

Now before I post the server information, I just want to make one last notice. Our community over the months of having the server has dealt with Griefing, Glitchers, Hackers, Complainers, and Youtubers... I can't guaranteed to you that you're going to have a pleasant experience or not. It's all up to server preferences towards the player, and how they play the gamemode. In my opinion, I'm okay with anyone making backgrounds stories just as long as there reasonable and actually make sense with the universe were playing in. If they want to play on the bad side that's there choice and I'm completely okay with it, but I have to say. I don't like the idea when players do it constantly, it should be like something that you go in and out, but if it happens constantly. It's really annoying and I have to pull the player out and then I try to same calm without arguing with the person. I can't speak for the other admins though some of them are more stricter than other because of the problems that occurred over the time of our server, and trust me I have to be strict on certain occasions as well. I can't really be everyone friend at some point. Were not looking for a completely serious gamer, I don't think a gamemode should be taken that so seriously, and I'm sorry if our server isn't like other server you may have played on. Again, I'm just putting that out there. But thanks for reading and here the information:

    Server IP: (Closed)
Map: Rp_industrial17_beta9 (Commonly used, but we have different layouts).
    Server Website: http://impulse-gamers.com/forums/index.php

Thanks for reading guys or girls, if you have any questions. Please post below and I'll be happy to respond.

  2. I saw you were preparing this thread for a while. I skimmed through a few paragraphs and it looks like you really put the effort into this.

    Good luck :)

  3. Looks well presented, I'll give your server a look at later on :)!

What the fuck does that mean? God, Portal, you anger me.

Anyway, yeah, nice thread. Although, just because the thread is big, doesn't change how I think about it: This sounds like any other server. Assigning apartments is nothing new, ect.

  6. cfitz22

cfitz22 What's this supposed to be?

Kind of a wall of text but looks decent. Might try later.

So you have more than a gigabyte of content for people to download when they join the server, and most of it goes unused 90% of the time?

  8. Very nice thread, and seems like you know what you're doing; but I would suggest highlighting the key points as 90% of people who view these things are generally responding with "TL;DR". Good luck mate, I might have to join whenever I get the chance to!

  9. Now you know you have made a good thread when Audio says he's going to join your server.

  10. Daemon01

    Daemon01 I've covered in wars y'know.

    You mean scanners?

No, I know what the scanner is and how to give them to players. We already have some players using it, while a GRID unit controls them. But I've been on other clockwork servers where someone had like this weird AI npc that was able to move around and help others players. I assumed it was just another player, but then I notice I can actually press E on it. Sorry if you guys believe I'm referring to actual scanners.

Thanks for the advice, I've looking over all the plugins inside the plugin section and while going though it, I try to look for ones that mainly gave more interactions between players and also some recommended by the community. So I appreciate that, Thanks!

Technically, you're only downloading just the 202.425 Megabytes from the steam workshop. The other 749.38 Megabytes you have to manually install if you want to see other models, and considering I can't edit the pack and re-upload it without the creator permission, everyone has to download the pack with extra models. But like I said it's completely optional. Our Civil Protection model is the same as any other servers that use Metropolice pack v5, however we have skins from the TnB pack for citizens that doesn't want to stick to normal citizen clothing, I don't use the pack. But the others do, so that's why we have it.
