Are canon characters going to be played by players?

 

Most canon characters won't be seen on the server, however they may make appearances during events.

 

I'd steer clear of doing this. That's just me, though.

Do what you think is best. Us here at C16 are only here to show you differing opinions from some of the most experienced in Serious RP, so just take our sayings and opinions with a grain of salt.

On the basis of using canon characters, this is why I think it's a bad idea in roleplay: The pure fact that most people can't or do not know how to handle playing as a character like what you see in the canon. I've seen people try and play as Gordon Freeman, and obviously due to the fact that he never talks, it never meshed properly and just looked bad in a roleplay environment.

Characters such as Kleiner and maybe, just maybe, the GMan are the only things I can see being properly roleplayed.

 

On my server I had someone roleplay as GMan, long story short, the entire city blew up, never use canon characters.

 

Well, the plan wasn't on using the 'main' sorta characters you would see, but characters that are not seen in the current Half-Life 2 storyline and were removed, some examples of this would be:

Eli Maxwell; He was originally intended to have no more relation with Alyx Vance than being close friends and appear as an old bespectacled man with a white beard, a bonnet, an apron and walking with a stick because of his missing leg, and named "Maxwell".

Or Captain Vance; One of the few surviving military leaders of Earth, was to be the leader of the Combine Conscripts while working undercover for the Resistance.

These sort of characters that no one has really heard/seen/roleplayed with so their character would be fresh, new and can be developed through the custom canon. But I see what you're saying about using cliche characters such as Gordon, Kleiner, Alyx ect. but those characters were never intended to be used, only new one that were used within the HL2 Beta storyline but never made the light of day.

Thanks for all the friendly replies! We hope to have an ETA of when the server launches by monday, I think sometime next week/weekend would be a good time to open up due to the spring break.

By the way, make all outside air toxic. It makes things very, very interesting. I know because on the server I play on, the air outside is toxic, and death ensues maybe half a minute or longer after exposure.
