Other Intense server lag.

Discussion in 'Development' started by Lykosnychi, Oct 20, 2016.

  1. So a friend and I are trying to build up and host a CW server. As of now, we've got two problems.

1: No matter what map the server is on, and whether it's running the base gamemode, or CWHL2RP, when I join the server I am stuck on a permanent 2FPS, meaning I can't do anything. This affects my game right up into menus, alt tabbing in or out of the game, etc etc until I disconnect. Once disconnected everything returns to normal.

2: The server refuses to launch with CW on, it launches into the base gamemode with all addons except Clockwork/HL2RP active.

Edit: The server is a fresh install of CWHL2RP, Gmod, and Steam. Nothing else at all. The HL2RP is the one my friend purchased from here, and the server is hosted by Xenon Servers, it's 8 slots. This lag issue we've had since before this install. We thought perhaps there were conflicting/corrupted files from when it was running the broken Cider-2 beforehand, so we did a fresh delete and install of everything- but now it's still crazy laggy, AND won't launch in Clockwork now.

It could be you're server host i would see if upgrading helps i had a 10 slot server and it did the same i have 25 now and it is good. EDIT: I also would make a dedicated server and see if it does the same i would also ask you're server host why the lag is happening not just here it could be a issue with them.

  3. Thing is, my friend says what when she connects to the server from her own client, it's fine and she doesn't lag.

I had a friend of mine connect, and he said it was laggy- but if he looked at the floor it stopped (thus surmising it was themaps fault)
I can't get the lag to stop at all. I have done a complete fresh install of Gmod on my machine (Uninstalled, deleted all files and folders, reinstalled) and I still get that glorious 2 FPS lag on joining.

So your theory is that the server host is the issue, and that the number of slots is somehow affecting it?

and it IS a dedicated server.

Only other thing i can think of is validating you're game cache so if other people are fine then it could be client side and server host how many slots goes with how much ram and what cpu you get maybe CW cant run on a server that does not have that much ram or cpu power also when i said dedicated i meant run a server on YOU'RE computer and see if it changes.

  5. They said on their forums that the servers are not CPU restricted, meaning that if you need more CPU, your server will use it.
And Yeah I'm working on getting other people to check it, most are busy when I'm at my computer though.

I don't know what Xenon does over there since i use Serenity but it should be client side then my friend good luck.

  7. .. I restarted my computer and It fixed it. Despite my having restarted it 3 times while trying to fix it.

I'm 9000% done with my computer here.

Now all that's left is the 2nd issue:

How do I get the server to properly run the CW, which it's refusing to do?

e: I'm looking a this. However my folders on the server are not matching up with what it's saying.
Garrysmod in root directory - YES
    Clockwork folder in gamemodes -YES
    Lua folder - YES
Bin folder inside lua dfolder - NO

bin folder contains authentication system which is mandatory to run clockwork. Without it the server will revert to base gamemode. Make sure all of the .dll's are there.

  11. Thanks. I had the owner create and upload the bin folder!

Now the server works perfectly, it's just time for me to go through the mindnumbing process of editing and renaming all the factions and classes. Wew.
