Jasper - an open-source side project of mine

Jasper is an open-source voxel engine. I've always wanted to make a voxel engine that is highly moddable (Minecraft with an actual Mod API). My engine will support multiple "planets".

I know many of you think this has been done a million times, but I'm really just doing it for my own enjoyment, with the added benefit of contributing something open-source to the world.

So I'll be posting updates to my blog at http://kurozael.com whenever I get a chance, as well as YouTube video blogs whenever I can.

Don't expect progress to go fast, as this is just really a side-project.

I would like to eventually make a Cloud Sixteen server of it when possible, and perhaps even make a kind of roleplay gamemode for it - imagine!

Anyway I'll be using Unity 3D mostly for its graphical stuff, but the core voxel engine will be written from scratch.

Please note that there's nothing yet. When there is though, you'll be able to clone the repository and open the project up in Unity yourself at any time!

I was gonna do this alone, but if you're interested in joining the team and have Unity experience, please drop me a PM. I'll be looking for UI programmers and support programmers mainly.

The first real goal is to get a basic voxel engine up and running and network it so we can have some players running around destroying and placing blocks. Then can build from there.

  4. Sounds really good, can't wait for a usable version to poke with a stick.

    Nice job, kuro.
One question - will people have to pay for it, or not?

  9. Well. Technically the clockwork base itself is free as you can just go to its github and download it. You just need to buy stuff to make it work.

    Sheeplie Hi.

    You mean Cube World?

  12. Cube world wasn't sandbox, I think. (Maybe they updated it, idk. I played it once and it got boring after a couple playthroughs.)

More like a minecraft or starbound.

Multiple Planets, it's a lot like starbound, really. (I love that game. Terraria is complete ass compared to Starbound.)

Use that code worth calculator someone made. lol

    Tydosius I am deeply sorry.

How does one simply make an engine?
