Looking to own a community?

I am currently allowing community owners to be hosted on my VDS, to help them get started.

If you wish to own a community, or simply own a server, contact me on steam at: http://steamcommunity.com/id/tommyhere/

The details will be different for every person, as some people I know and like, and some I dislike. However, for the most part, everything will be the same.

    The Basics:
-For the first month your server exists, if you do not get at least $30 in donations (I.E., if you do not get $30 by the time March 2nd reaches, and I created your server on February 2nd, your server is shut down.) (This can be worked around, contact me on steam if you believe you will have an issue with this. We may be able to work something out.)

-From then on, you must get at least $25 in donations each month to keep your server up. This amount may lower eventually. (If you get $50 in donations one month, and $0 in the next, that is perfectly fine.)

-When you have people donate, make sure they put the name of your community in the side-note it gives them when donating. Otherwise, their donations will not count.

-I am available almost always 15 hours a day, the only times I am not available is while I am sleeping or at school (However, half of the classes I partake in allow phones to be out, and I will always get back to you after the class ends, so the longest time you will have to wait is probably an hour.)

-If I do not like what your community is doing, you server will be shut down. This will rarely happen, and the only things I can think of that will cause your server to be shut down in this fashion is playing on a darkRP map while being a HL2RP community.

Soviet Jesus Change is a good thing, at some points.

You are demanding quite a lot for a community that would be new.

    Jesus.

No thank you. I don't want to have to worry about reaching my monthly quota for getting my own server.

I was actually going to take this up until I saw that.

    Yeah, no.

He's offering you a free server and giving you a month to make $30. That's a dollar a day. If you're serious about roleplay, as is your community, you shouldn't have much of a problem with that as an objective. It's a way of keeping quality-control and making sure that the servers being used on his box are being used for a good purpose and not just sitting there idle.

Like you wouldn't have a monthly quota regardless? If I didn't reach my monthly quota of $40/mo, NFO would shut my server down as well-- for not paying the damn bill. Without some form of quality restriction, the box would be filled with emptied servers and minge-crowds. Being able to afford about four JJ sandwiches in a month isn't really that unfair, considering the alternative.

Keep it up, Tommy. It's looking good.

Buying my own server with a decent box would be cheaper than $30.

Unless you have FO-level upload/download speeds and a server box (which is still literally a computer-- it'd cost hundreds to build/buy) capable of running the server, I highly doubt it. Hence why most server owners (that aren't strikingly rich and happen to be in a Verizon FiOS zone) use a VPS or dedicated server-- because they can't afford to pay such a huge bill at once.

Mm, and NFO would obviously provide higher-quality service as well. The main part of the 'offer' that Tommy is offering is that you get a month to get yourself the money, as opposed to most VPS/dedi hosters that demand it up-front.

The main point of this is so people may host a server with it being free, and it can live fully on donations they get. Normally server owners have to pay pocket money up-front to get their server up and running, and a lot of people don't have a way to do just that.

I'm just trying to help get a community up and running, and normally the server I give you would have 30 slots, unless you wanted otherwise.

For the first month, you are paying the full $30 that a 30-slot server would cost, but instead of doing it up-front, you do it over a gradual month. And then from there, you only need to pay $25 of the $30 each month.

Guess you're right. I'll think about it, Tommy.

  11. Are you forcing us to have Clockwork servers, or could I do something else like Minecraft or Counter Strike?

Until Minecraft is supported on Windows for NFO, you cannot have a Minecraft on my VDS, sorry.

However, anything that NFO supports on Windows can be hosted on my VDS. Just speak with me in Steam, and I can tell you everything it supports.

Unless you have $0.00 and need somewhere to start.

You'd be better of learning how to operate a VPS and just pay $5/month to have x2 64 slot servers.

  15. I just checked with them. They do run Minecraft servers on Windows software.

Alright, then I can host it for you. They didn't have it a few months back so I was under the impression it still wasn't on Windows.

Also, Halokiller, I'm doing this to help others that need a place to start, but I need the money to keep the VDS up. I don't want to pay the $45 a month to host a server I'm not benefiting from.

  17. We need to build up a massive fanbase first before I even try to ask you for a minecraft server though, so I'll be doing that, hopefully collect some early donations for starting perks, then be back to you.

  18. Know what? I got many places where I can get a quick minecraft community together. If I fail to get players within two weeks, take me down.
