MetroRP Scam Story

Discussion in 'Casual Discussion' started by audiotek, Jul 16, 2017.

  1. Recently I got a message from some dude I met on a City HL2RP server a long time ago. Haven't talked to him in a year or so. He asks me for five bucks. I was confused, because I haven't talked to him in so long. He then tells me it is admission so I can join a server. I was appalled, because I had never heard of paying to join a server before. I talked to him more about it, and he explains how the cost is to get a "beta pass", and how I could get a headstart and level up my character before others did and the server went public and free for everyone. I kinda chuckled, but was also worried at the same time - this guy was starting a pay to win server, and I confronted him about this. He told me he didn't own it and referred me to another guy's profile. I told a few of my friends about this and they laughed, and left a few comments on the owner's profile saying "your server is gonna die" and stupid bob good D4nk Meme$. He then gets very defensive and says how it is only going to coding and blah blah blah on his profile. I found out that the guy who tried selling me this was just a suck-up trying to get admin on the server, and he told me how five people already paid for this beta pass. I was appalled, because I have no idea why anyone would pay for this. I found out it was only the admins who did, and they sent the money to the owner. After me talking to him and everything, the suck-up messaged the owner and the owner wanted everyone to know that it was no longer payment based but application based. I told him, "What happened to the five people who purchased a beta pass? Did they get a refund?" He replied, "The admins bought the pass." I said "OK, but did they get a refund?" No response. I then realize that he's backed into a corner. I ask the salesman, "This is the guy's first server, isn't it?" He says "No, the guy owns a popular HL2RP community." He's dodgy about telling me the name of the server. I look into it and the server isn't even real. Amused, I ask him, "What's the playercount?" No joke, this guy responds "MARIJUANA!" and then "lol SORRY!!!!".

I try to get the group of the HL2RP server he claimed existed, but it wasn't even a thing. The suck-up told me the group was "down for maintenance". How convenient, heh?

Anyway, in the end of the day, if anyone tells you "Hey you should apply for a beta pass to this server", you shouldn't touch that server even with a five meter stick.

EDIT: I created this post not to harass or target anyone. That's why I left out names. I just thought it was a funny story and thought I should share it.

  5. i always wanted to make a cheap buck off of impressionable children through donations such as x amount of money gives you x amount of tokens, whitelists, and so on

just too lazy to do so

  6. My friend did that. $15 bucks for admin or whatever. Abandoned the server, came back a week later and closed it down. He made SO MUCH MONEY, and basically his whole playerbase was staff.

  7. sounds sick as fuck

  8. Time to shut down my unique servers to make handfuls of cookie-cutter, near-vanilla servers under a network of proxy accounts, each selling adminship for a price.
