HL2RP New Server

I'm the Co-Owner of a new Half-Life 2 server that is currently in development, as I have spent nearly 1,500 hours in Clockwork Roleplay, you can expect I have personally seen a lot of servers die out. I'd love to hear what suggestions and ideas the Community has for a new server, or what they feel a server needs to stay alive etc. I am open to all ideas about lore etc, just post what you want below. Please stay civil.

 

As someone who has co owned a HL2RP server and played on HL2RP a long time, I have some suggestions.

• Little or no donations. If any they should not majorly impact gameplay.
• Immersion, Immersion, Immersion. I should feel like I am playing whatever role I am playing in the HL2 Universe.
• Active CWU Player Base. CWU is a big part of what makes civ rp fun, make sure it exists.
• Use a sort of mix of the intention and division system for MPF. I can explain further in like discord or some other chatting software, but it really helps quality control in MPF.
• Have a balance of free range of roleplay and quality control. Let people rp as anything they can in HL2RP universe except obvious things that don't belong and if they can't handle it, remove them from the role.
• Have a organized staff team and hierarchy that can easily handle corruption and abusive staff. Also don't hire children for staff, because 9/10 times they can't handle it.
• No Zombie or Antlion Whitelist, except for events maybe.
• No official staff resistance. Rebel rp should be made by the players.
• Have a fleshed out economic system for both CWU and Blackmarket with sensible people running both sides.
• Make it extremely hard to get a gun.
• Do not block off everything on the map. For sewers and other rebel areas, at least have one way in that is discreet.
• Have a indicator for what the laws are for citizens. This is a huge problem most servers don't address, but maybe have a law book that is sold at a vendor at spawn, so citizens know what is illegal.
• DOn't have massive amounts of content. TNB megapack is a no no. Have what you need like enhanced citizens for example.
• Be friendly to new players. Teach them how play.
• Stick to HL2 Lore, but fill in gaps with sensible things for things lore won't explain.
• Don't make that MPF are these machines to the Union. Progressively brainwash them to the point where they wouldn't want to leave the Union, but still somewhat have emotion.
• Keep factions to CWU, Citizens, MPF, OTA, Cremators, Stalkers (Maybe, because if correctly played it can lead to interesting rp), Administrator.
• Don't reward loyalists too heavily or make it super easy to get LP. Especially no loyalists with guns.
• Make their be a way to earn tokens without having to be CWU or do work for the union (basically a way to make money without needing another player). This is good for server downtime and rebels getting funds to actually get equipment.
• Try to curb ERP. Either fully ban it or make it so because of fear of being caught, citizens can't erp in the city.

I don't see anything wrong with continuing to make HL2RP Servers. As long as he tries to change things up from most servers and has a good expereience I think it's fine.

 

i can tell youre new, hl2rp was the shit back in 2012 when servers were not ran by 15 year olds and there friends and were passive rp actually took place and was intresting. most hl2rp servers are trash atm.

I did play in that time period, as far back as when it came to GMOD. I still have a ounce of hope that someone can get it to that level, so I try to help community owners by pushing them there, while giving them ways to mix it up.

While I agree rp in a whole is quite dead, it's not like it hasn't died before, but yet it came back. It's quite possible, its just no one tries to teach new people how to serious rp or get new people invested. They just go for old rp players and Cloud Sixteen users and forget about those who want to learn and try.

Take some examples from successful communities like LemonPunch and Nebulous, they should help, though try not to copy things from them, like a certain Earth-Fall.

BUT HERE'S ONE TIP, DON'T USE HIGH COMMAND, IT'S AUTISTIC IMO.

 

Earthfall, LP, and Nebulous all are terrible servers (LP was good a few years ago), but were all pretty terrible up to now, especially when it comes to RP. They only get a population, because they don't ban bad rpers and make it so you can buy MPF.

@Vamure is right though. Serious (gmod) Roleplay has been such shit lately because nearly all the players and server owners are either hormone-raging fourteen-year-old(s) or prepubescent players who think everything revolves around erotic-roleplay and their shitty anime shows.

They don't have a basic grasp on the concept of enjoying yourself, it's all about getting the most amount of scripts, flashy models, and the grown-man-behind-a-monitor-who's-totally-a-real-girl-and-not-just-one-in-hl2rp to get their virtual dicks wet with. It's a shame, and, I really don't think you can fix it anymore. It's grown to a point where that's accepted as the norm across the board, where-as if you make any attempt at stomping this shit infested 'norm' out, everyone leaves your server because "bro ur cancer XDD".

 

I was referring to Earthfall with that one, but Nebulous does put big emphasis on donations as well.

You can't buy MPF on Earthfall, unless you're referring to that shit 'gold package' which has yet to be deleted by the owner.
