HL2RP Nilux Roleplay - Only in Confinement Can We Feel Freedom

Discussion in 'Communities' started by Cinder, May 1, 2015.

  1. Daohlocks

Daohlocks The Bible is my favorite sci-fi novel.

(Insert a poster containing information about donations with the Metropolice force whitelist and admin whitelist highlined in bold here.)

    No. N-O.
Just, no, no, and no. Hell f'ing no.
I don't really care about admin, you can just revoke their rank if they do anything that has to do with abusing and still keep their money and the playerbase won't give a damn.
But MPF whitelists? Seriously? So, you won't be able to de-whitelist people who don't know how to be MPF, you will have to teach them, just getting that out of the way, because banning people who don't know how to RP is s-a-d.
Second, giving the MPF whitelist for a price simply removes the purpose of applications altogether. Instead of writting a 3 paragraph shinny ass backstory, a hefty twenty line RP example and the IC format, the buyer will simply be given the whitelist with a tag saying "Take this, it's dangerous to go alone!" on it. I highly suggest that you remove both the admin and MPF whitelist products, as they attract minges, keep most of your donations restricted to simple things such as PET (but still make people be able to apply for them!) and maybe even cosmetic things such as donator tags in-game and on the forums, perhaps access to a restricted forums sector, a few tokens (just don't give more than 500 tokens, donations are meant to be given out of good will!) and that kinda stuff.

Given all that, it's your community, we are just giving you friendly advice.

PET, tokens, PAC flags, donator tag in OOC, special forum rank and donator only forum. Gotcha.

  3. Yeah people bitch even for giving that stuff out but how is a community to survive?

  4. corrin

If a player likes a community then they will do their best to help it survive.

Stop throwing an autistic fit. They're trying to help you and you're just BAWWWWWWWWing. Unless that was a joke. If it's a joke; then I take it back.

  5. Nah tons of people 'Like' a server. Not many people will just give their money for free. Especially if other venues are offering $10 white listings. Sure don't go full minge but you need benefits.

  6. The Dovahneer

The Dovahneer i can change my title

it costs 8usd/month to pay for a server if you get cheap bullshit, and that includes website costs
even with a vps its just 20 usd/month, with website costs hitting 24usd/month

if you're serious about starting a lasting community, you should save up at least 100usd to cover costs rather than paying like the first month and relying on donations to support you

If you really want to keep the donate for mpf whitelists you can add something saying "Minge, Constant FailRP etc." will result in deletion of all characters and removal of the whitelist.

Not much else to say but this. I don't think servers should really accept donations unless someone specifically asks if they can donate to you without expecting a reward.

On a different note, can you guys please tone things down? No needs to freak out about someone running a server just like every other server out there.

  9. The Dovahneer

The Dovahneer i can change my title

    that's the problem
hes advertising the server as something new and special while it's what everyone else does+promises and simple plugins.

anyway, ive made my point a few posts back. ill stop unless spoken to directly.

  10. You do realize that by offering donations for administrator not only completely shows your horrible mindset, but also shows how you don't even know the logic behind an administrator, and thus a HL2RP server. You are not ready for anything close to serious roleplay. My advice is to shut down until you are old enough to get a job. Maybe try DarkRP? I hear it's perfectly fine to offer "administrator" for money. They're not even donations. If you want to fill your pockets, seriously, go to DarkRP or something like minecraft.

If you still feel as if you want to run a HL2RP serve, read this:
    http://steamcommunity.com/sharedfiles/filedetails/?id=365023781

Try looking at other servers first, ask more experienced people that aren't too busy (don't be annoying.) for advice. Do this for a couple months at the very least before attempting to start a serious roleplay server.

That in mind, you need to get a new attitude. Being an administrator is a duty-- a privelage which allows you to assume the role as one of the leader of the community. To help others with your experience (NOT money from your mom's credit card) and dedication to HL2RP and your server. It is not something to EVER be bought.

This hit the nail right on the head, sorry bud. It's the sad truth.

You should not go into running a server with the mindset that you will come out ahead in funds. This is where people make their first mistakes.

I also can't run it if none of you let me and just keep destroying the chances that anyone would join.

Some of the posts are a bit aggressive, but they do offer valid advice.

  14. Donation system sort of reminds me of DarkRP. Should just stick to the "standard" model all other servers that try to monetize do.

    1. Sell TnB
    2. Sell whitelists

But never, ever sell admin, any Combine-related whitelists and dear God never have the option to buy tokens.

  15. They're not even donations. They're things you buy. I /now/ hate how servers monitize things like that as "donations".

  16. Word for word, the exact thing i said to you like a month or 2 ago.

    Interesting.

But yes, don't label things you buy as donations. It's time to stop being so fake about it and just be real, tell it as it is. you're paying for items, it's not a donation, because people buy them to get something.

Being realistic about it, i can't help but feel an overwhelming sense of anger, disappointment, a huge amount of disgust and an overall loathing and apathy while seeing what that place is becoming, and how far behind in the times you are with your mindsets.
Admin donations? Everything about this is just so stale.
This is as generic as it gets, you couldn't even use an original name. You need to either start ENTIRELY from scratch with some actual effort or can it entirely..

By just not even doing this, you're going to save your reputation, or what's left of it, a hell of a lot of time, and a lot of flak from others.

It's coming across as just wanting to throw a quick-fix server up to make some cash, which is really quite poor and sad to see that people do this. You have the wrong mindset to be making any sort of community or server where RP is involved...

The responses of others solidify all of these points, and verify that it's a very obvious thing and it seems that even some of the most quiet of people are strongly opposed and disapprove.

  17. Yeah, you did-- we actually talked about my hypocrisy in steam after posting that. Fixxer said the exact same thing to me, which inspired me to fight for the worthy and noble cause of truth.

You call them donations because of legal reasons. Of course no one thinks it's a 'donation'.

SCG sells combine whitelists. And it never works out since the donator force is piss retarded.

  20. Daohlocks

Daohlocks The Bible is my favorite sci-fi novel.

How about we just discuss about the other things in the community instead of going on a ten page rant about how much everyone hates different kinds of donation mechanisms? It has technically already been solved.
