A server dedicated to Half-Life 2 Roleplay founded in early September 2014.

Nova is built around a very simple philosophy; make the server for the player. One guarantee we wish to make is the simple notion that the staff team will never give privileges to other staff members. Call us marxist, but we like to respect our players just as much as our administration, so we will never 'Wish fulfill'. Our server's been up and down as a community for nigh on a year now, building it's name from a small group of people known from it's name, while admittedly cheesy, 'Cyber Gaming'. From there we've built ourselves around the prospect of a server made for the enjoyment of /everybody/. We will dedicate every event to the enjoyment of all players, no matter what the whitelist, and roleplay, while passive, will never feel stagnant for the player because of this. The server itself has seen few eyes but we've polished it to a shine and worked on it in every way, shape and form. Please, continue to read as I explain each aspect of the server in further detail.

      City Lore

The year is two-thousand-nineteen. An age of industry. The world is in an everlasting conflict between races. Love and ethics have turned second hand before material value. Only in a world this morally blank would humanity possibly be sacrificed to their own free will.

City 17's Industrial sector is the largest sector of City 17, located south-east of the central residential sector. The location of 100 different working areas, Industrial 17 (As nicknamed by many members of the sector's Civil Work-force) is most certainly the densest area in the city. The sector houses some of the harshest conditions of Combine civil housing, respiratory complications resulting in nigh 1000 deaths every year. The Civil Protection are common to describe the sector's social structure (The sector functioning under a wing of the City Administrational Bureau separate to the rest of the city and under command only under the UU's authority) as a 'Sing for your supper' approach to business, where in many citizens on verdicts close to amputation warrants are forced to live life in squalor, many dying of dehydration or starvation in favour of the loyalist citizens oblidged to private housing and ration benefits. The city's built on the foundations of a ukrainian factory block and the old city's influence shows today. Fossil Power is still used today and, despite the ambiguity of it's form, it is built nigh entirely on the foundations of old coal burning stations. Even today, towers of smoke can be seen going up into the air in vast numbers.

Despite this, Industrial 17 is the most important part of City 17's ability to function. The workforce of Industrial 17 (Named the 'Civil Union Workforce') is extremely apt, citizens of various backgrounds able to be recruited to perform tasks of various specialization. Most of the resources in City 17 come from either the brilliant technology of City 8 or the massive working mass of it's industrial sector, producing the bulk of everything the city requires.

Of course, not all aspects of citizen life are 'Legal' per se. One rather large aspect of citizen life is the alcohol trade; City 17 is rather far east of Ukraine and, while the Union have tried to control the trade of alcohol with CAB-approved stores in the style of pre-war bars and pubs, there are many people who have been able to make a living selling Moonshine from illegal distilleries. Recently, Breathalyzer tests during inspections have became mandatory and people who appear to be intoxicated are rather swiftly sent into detainment.

      Loyalty System

In our server, there is a very in depth loyalty system which effects your entire roleplay experience. Rather than just simply slapping a badge on your arm and giving you a couple of extra tokens, we give a LOT more benefits to simply being loyal to the Universal Union. A list of this would be as follows.
      • Better housing.
      • A more pleasant life-style.
      • Marriage. {Some restrictions to this feature.}
      • Union Currency in Rations.
      • Exclusive access to meetings or introductions.
      • Possible enlistment to the Civil Worker's Union.

The reason for these features, is so that the human race bonds with the Universal Union and not go against them. That is, however, the life of a loyal citizen. A citizen that 'Betrays' the laws issued by the union are known as the Anti-citizen (Frequently referred to as refugees, or 'Rebels' by citizens). They live their life in squalor; they are forced out of the combine controlled city to either face death or a life in a 404 area (404 area meaning an area not in full control of the combine). They spend their days in cramped conditions and are constantly plauged by the risk of the 'Ash cloud' of industrial refuse that looms over their wake every day. Without assistance from any form of governing force, the only way a refugee can survive is through scavenging. Food and water are necessities that are constantly at risk. Without aid from others, life as a refugee can be very hard indeed.

      Factions

On Nova, Factions are purely based around the original base game including the Metro Police Force, Vortigaunts, Overwatch Transhuman Arm, Exogen, and Citizens. All of these factions are key elements to roleplay in some way or form.

The Metro Police Force or Combine Civil Authority

CPs or MPF Officers, are ordinary human volunteers who have "willingly" joined the Combine, either for more privileges, such as additional food, better living conditions, an increase in authority and status over others, or out of genuine sympathy and identification with the Universal Union's goals. Of course there are certain ranks of authority in the Metro Police Force. The ranks are all standard ranks with an addition of the SqL. However there are several divisions in which a unit can become a part of.

      i1 - A basic judge division.
      i2 - A medical division, specializing in medical-like studies.
i3 - An engineer division, specializing in mechanical-like studies.
i4- A patrol like division, specializing in police-like studies.
i5- A science like division, specializing in science-like studies.
i6 - A undercover like division, specializing in special operations.
i7 - A scout like divison, specializing in marksmanship.

      Vortigaunts

Vortigaunts are enslaved creatures from the planet Xen. They are know for either being slaves or simply beings in existence. They have a very basic knowledge of English (Sometimes.) and their native language. They were first seen in the Black Mesa incident after the Resonance Cascade.

      Overwatch Transhuman Arm

The Overwatch Transhuman Arm is a category of Overwatch that include highly powerful super soldiers that are heavily augmented. The 'OTA' is known for fighting in actual wars or highly dangerous or contamination of the civil structures in each city.

      Exogens

Exogens, more specifically 'Headcrabs' or 'Antlions' are alien creatures also known from the Resonance Cascade. They are both pests, and highly dangerous as they are both known to be very hostile.

      Citizens

Citizens, are humans who have been enslaved by the Universal Union. However, some actually agree with the Union's terms and goals. These people are called Loyalists, and those who disagree and fight are Anti-Citizens. Of course there are multiple 'Factions' that are simple jobs for the Universal Union which is why in this case they are not considered actual factions but roleplay jobs. Each citizen (In some circumstances) can join the Civil Worker's Union, Civil Union Workforce, and etc.

On Nova's Roleplay server, there is some fun custom content currently being worked on and included. One of our proudest works would have to be our custom Swep pack coded by myself. It utilizes the large Taco'n'Banana Megapack's weapons models and makes the fully live and able to be used as real weapons. However, with the pack isn't just simple weapons thrown in for just any sort of use but the weapons are based on region. Since City Seventeen is in what was known as 'Russia' most weapons left years later are cheap Russian stockpile. (e.g AK-74, Mosin Nagant, Makarov.)

      AK-74
[IMG] No, sorry I don't have first person shots. I'm sorry.

      Makarov
[IMG] No, sorry I don't have first person shots. I'm sorry.

That isn't it though, as much more content is in the process of being created. Please wait while this happens, as content takes a little while to get working and put in the correct order. Thank You!

The Forums are currently a major [WIP] so please bare with us while we get it up and running.

The TeamSpeak3 Server is currently up and running so feel free to join that.

A lot of stuff actually got well, left out. There is plenty of small things I could of spoken of, but overall I just wanted to get the main idea of the server. I will take that into consideration!

    I like the original name.

Jokes aside, the first statement was serious (And not an asinine comment), I really do like your thread. It's nice, and I can see the work put into it. Great job, mate. Sorry for any unintended malice.

There is, of course the Marriage is not anything special or put into a religious type form. You can really re-word it as a bondage between two citizen to improve moral status on the population; which generates more fondness to the Universal Union.

So.. Permission to Relationship RP under the Unions Permission...?

  15. Zig

    Zig Guest

Sort of, but it can be used in different ways besides actually loving one another. As I said it can be a bondage, but also for different RP (No, not erp.) reasons. But if you want you can make it a relationship, but not a very 'Romantic' one.

  16. NFPD

    NFPD Plums!

Marriage...? Other than having it being information, I don't see the point of it, you don't have to officially marry them, they can just do it themselves, easily. Marriage in Half-Life 2 wouldn't be stopped by law, at least, it shouldn't.

Of course it could be done easily, but it is to represent a more official bondage. The whole concept is kinda still in the making, but is still a nice touch to improve more likely-hood of the Universal Union. (In my opinion.)

I loved the Sectorial. He was all I needed. Me being a recruit, I knew that he would undermine me, but I wouldn't allow it. I encountered the Sectorial as he was watching over the city from his Nexus office.

    "Sir. Were you expecting me?"

"Yes, of course Recruit. Sit down."

This was my chance. I had to display my love for the Sectorial, I knew he also had feelings for me.

"So, Recruit. What is it that you request? That was awfully silly of you to want a request from the Sectorial..."

    "Yes, sir. I understand."

I stood up from the chair and clambered onto his office desk. "Sir... I've seen the looks you've given me at the Recruit station. I understand what would be at stake for this, but you know it's true love..."

The Sectorial stood from his seat. "Yes, of course Recruit. I am so happy you understand what I was trying to represent. These devices in my head... they make it very difficult to express devotion to a certain someone."

I felt a light in my chest. I just knew it. I loved him with all my heart.

    "Now, come here, Recruit."

"Yes, of course, sir. Anything for you. Hehe."

As the Recruit edged towards the Sectorial he was estatic. He stood in front of the large and muscular Sectorial. He knew what was going to happen, and he knew he would love it.

    "Oh, sir... you shouldn't."

"Yes I should, Recruit," he sighed, "I love you."

The Sectorial pulled out a .44 magnum and aimed it towards the Recruits head. Without hesitation and without a reaction from the Recruit in time, the Sectorial pulled the trigger . He watched as bits and bobs of the units brain flew across the room, splattering against the wall.

The Sectorial sighed, placing his magnum back into his holster. He walked back to his seat, sitting down, looking out over over the city.

    "Fucking Recruits."

I wasn't able to tell it was hl2rp for a few paragraphs for some reason or another. I like the headers but if the text was a bit more of a contrast to the rusty background I think it'd look nicer.
