If it manages to retain players interest.

My hypothesis atm is that everyone is hyped for roleplay. Any type.

After a couple of days/weeks, people have had their thirst for RP satiated there'll be a lack of anything else but RP, and people aren't incentivized enough to return.

But man do I sincerely hope I'm wrong.

Way too early. As far as I know, there is nothing that will make the server unique in terms of features. Who is working on this server other than Sixx, and what work can they show that they've done? I'll lose a lot of my faith in this if it's true the server is opening this month. I've seen it happen. Time and time again, someone announces a server, people get hyped, the work is rushed, the server opens (to mild success) and quickly dies. That's the vibe I'm getting right now. Everyone is getting ahead of themselves with this server. Too much brainstorming and not enough progress. There's no evidence of long-term commitment, so I'm keeping my expectations realistic.

Since Sixx's map is the only thing I've seen, I guess that's what I'm most looking forward to seeing.

Kind of get what you're saying but at no point has anyone mentioned how excites they are for features etc. They're just excited for the RP and how the servers official. We're you at the meeting? If not probably best to come to the end of it tonight to actually get an understanding on what's going on with this server before making this kind of judgement.

There seemed to be plenty of excitement about what models, plugins, and weapons we were to have on the server, which included PAC, how it might be limited, and how a system to have squads on the server would work.

So yes, I was at the meeting, which doesn't really say much in the first place, because we spent more time drawing random shit than talking about the server.

That can sort of be forgiven, I needed to be present and as I said my internet was either being attacked or just having a spasm, the same meeting is continuing tonight at 6 if you're free, I'd really like you to be there.

It's completely understandable. Just the way he's mentioning the meeting is amusing. We only went through a handful of talking points, and I had 1 opportunity to speak. Most people had none. I am definitely going to be at the second one.

  11. I think that after a suggestion we should make a vote like in chat and put an agree and disagree rating, so us chat fags can also take a vote since most people dont even read the chat

There's less talk about the actual mechanics of the roleplay in question, and more talks about what looks and feels cool on paper.

What looks good is not the same as what'll play well and make for a captivating, long-lasting experience.

  13. I've gotta say there does have to be more than the basic Half Life 2 Roleplay we've all seen before otherwise the server isn't gonna be interesting and isn't gonna last. That doesn't mean twisting Half Life 2 into something it's not for the sake of "WE'RE A UNIQUE SERVER GUYS COME ON HAHA JOIN US", but a larger but subtler interesting difference. That's why I'd like to see the story driven server idea where - at least at first there is emphasis on planned and interesting events the results of which will determine the future, with tangible impacts and development as a result. I've had a few ideas for this, but something like server progression and events really can't be suggested publicly without ruining the appeal of the events as working out the story is half the fun though it'd be cool to be able to implement that kinda stuff.

It is true that I haven't seen enough yet to say that the server will be anything other than the bog standard format where the only differences are 'the Civil Protection structure is different' or 'we use shiny models' or 'we have few addons so join us :)' or 'hey we've got a cool special weapon pack. Those are the basics, and with only the basics the server isn't going to go far there needs to be something more. I haven't lost hope that we'll find something, but yeah as of now I'm not hyped.

If I've learned anything from Neb's IX launch it's that a simple reboot with no differences doesn't interest people, there has to be a plan from the get-go or you're constantly playing catch up and you'll never get anywere.
