Atomic Orion: A fallout experience

Discussion in 'Communities' started by Canoness, Jul 4, 2016.

The return of Orion has come. After many months of planning, it's time to run the show once more. Independently. The adventure of the now battered Orion company takes place in FALLOUT: NEW VEGAS. It's been a few months. The second battle of Hoover Dam inches closer. Caesar's Legion has increasingly picked up raids, probing the NCR whenever they can. By now, it's no secret - the bull and bear will clash once more, East and West will tear apart the land as they did years ago.

    Chapter One | U331H Bunker
Somewhere between California and the Mojave on the Long 15.
Before the Enclave had set up their operation to travel to the Poseidon Oil Rig, them along with the infamous Vault-Tec had funded compounds across the Western states of the U.S. equipped with state-of-the-art technology and an underground fallout shelter. Right before the Great War, the Enclave had abandoned these many facilities and flew in vertibirds towards the Poseidon Oil Rig, taking as much technology as they could with them. Many of these underground bases would later be re-purposed by many Western factions such as the Brotherhood of Steel's Hidden Valley.

    Chapter Two | Camp Ida
On the Long 15 just between New California and the Mojave.
Later on after the NCR's growth in Shady Sands, the large faction traveled West to claim more land that they could use to further their intentions. Through the Long 15 the group set up many checkpoints across the road, one location would be Camp Ida across ways from Bunker U331H. It set up to stop any waste-landers interfering with operations in the Mojave. Later on the NCR would discover Hoover Dam, as another faction quickly moved West, Caesar's Legion. The two factions quickly grew to hate each-other and started the War of the Mojave.

    Chapter Three | Helios One
Near the Helios One power plant facility.
After the disagreement between the Brotherhood of Steel and the NCR of who should keep Enclave technology who we're eradicated from the Mojave after the battle of Camp Navarro; A war began against Elder Elijah who were quickly defeated by the New California Republic. The Brotherhood retreated to the Enclave facility known as Hidden Valley as the NCR overtook Helios One. Many soldiers were sent to Helios One in attempts to re-power the facility, however there were low hopes of doing so with less than successful scientists. The NCR considered the project a near failure and soldiers we're extracted from the area, only leaving a few for crowd control and a hope to still recover the facility to full power.

    Chapter Four | Base Orion
    Inside Bunker U331H.
Shortly after Helios One's transfer the U331H bunker was discovered by Camp Ida. Shortly the facility was restored to working order and Camp Ida was disbanded. All of Camp Ida's soldiers and the NCR transfers from Helios One we're merged into Base Orion. Using one of the few vertibirds from the raid of Enclave's Camp Navarro, it's become one of the biggest NCR operations to both operate in the Mojave and New California. Handling with Caesar's Legion, the Western Brotherhood, and other crooks in different situations and strategies.

    Chapter Five | Captured
    Somewhere in a Legion camp.
It's been a few months since you have been captured by the Legion. You remember it all from the very start. You were surrounded after walking right into a trap. Caesar's Legion had you on a death march a long way to what would soon be your new home. You watched your fellow soldiers who were deemed profligates crucified or worse. You coordinated with your fellow prisoner if you can, and so this would be routine for weeks on end. You know where they store their weapons. You watched their patrol routines, noting everything down to the littlest detail. You and your fellow prisoners have no desire to remain in the hell that the Legion has put you through. The only town you know of is nearby, and has a small station of NCR soldiers with communications, your only hope to return to what was your normal life. You have one goal only now with your fellow NCR prisoner: escape.

WHAT IS THIS SUPPOSED TO BE?
This will be a one faction episodic Roleplay set in the Fallout Universe, inspired by the ideas of the shut down Security Detail and giving a SSTRP feel to it. At some points in the server, there will be 'special' episodes where you will play as Caesar's Legion. These specials will not have a specific time when they will be run, it is whenever we feel as if we can fit one in. You and your character will be apart of the Orion Company, a collective group of soldiers from the NCR that does various operations in both New California and the Mojave Desert. The server will be a whitelisted function as with SD, to join just simply go onto our steam group and follow the application procedure (just requires your steam ID). Through various events you'll interact with Caesar’s Legion, the Crimson Caravan, the Brotherhood of Steel, raiders, mutants, and regular wastelanders or small factions in either New California, the Mojave Desert, or another location in the Western states. Minor faction characters such as the Brotherhood, Raiders and other factions must be discussed with the staff team, we won't make you go through a lengthy application process either. However, do note that you are not allowed to play on your character unless the mission is related to your faction. (Essentially, event characters are what the minor factions will be).

    What's new?

A lot, perhaps not on the script-side, but roleplay in here matters. Upon creating your character, be careful where you place your stats. They -will- matter in the future. You will be given more stat points then usual upon joining, but ensure they are wisely placed. The more roleplay-ish skills like survival and repair will not require any points, rather we the staff request that you speak to us about skills if you're unsure on how they'll matter. Ranks and whatnot will not really matter much in the course of this, and they shouldn't. Listen to your Sergeant and getting the objective done should be all that matters as of now. Gaining rank will be a slow process but will have good rewards to it. We also want to include a survival element to this roleplay with a military feel to this, we'll be presenting what we mean on the first episode. Each episode can last around 1-3 hours with the server left on for the rest of the night for passive roleplay. Another thing, do not forget to post your steamID to me over PM if you want to join, we'll utilize a whitelist system designed to keep undesirables out. We're also run independently this time. I had intended for Orion to go on for about 3-4 months, and I want to continue this project of mine and finish it.

    LINKS AND USEFUL RESOURCES
Extra Note: There will not be any form of special snowflakes in this server. Everyone will be an NCR soldier unless you speak to me or Cookies. Veteran Rangers, Heavy Troopers and NCR 1st Recon will be also event characters unless some grand thing happens.

CakeZ rp is for nerds right

military-style rp is usually pretty solid imo; never experienced something strictly episodic and you better hope to find a way to keep people interested in off-hours and between episodes, and the private server bit is odd. i've run a well-off sstrp and managed a buncha servers, and this looks cool, i just hope it works out. the fallout universe provides a lot more breadth than just caesar's legion.
good luck, hope you manage it well, don't be a disappointment to others

  5. i'll be there for the second run, just like i was there for the first. don't let me down canoness.

  6. The reason for episodes is for quality, mainly. SSTRP for example I recently quit because the missions were absolutely at some points aim and shoot, there wasn't any sort of quality control. It seemed more as if the staff cared about the quantity of missions they produced, not the quality. I strive for the latter. As for the private server, everyone seems to be fine with it. Private servers also help with quality control and keep the baddies out (trolling squads, bob good wannabes, etc). If I keep it to episodes, it ensures for a more quality environment rather than having to push out missions so people don't get bored. And yeah, we do have a lot of activities for the NCR to do along with Legion on mission downtime. Thanks for the support!

I had some really bad work-related partners that participated with me in this, they're not here anymore. As of now we have very friendly people on our staff team and walking Fallout loremasters if anyone needs help on clarification on certain things and whatnot. I've been planning this perfectly for months, not gonna let hostility ruin it.

    Thanks for the support :)

I like the idea of episodic specials with the Legion, it creates a good alternative 'from their perspective/point of view' thing. The only problem I can see though is with these Legion episodes people are gonna probably sterotype/play Legion very wrong. You'd probably need to pretty much establish "hey, we're legion, be brutal but don't overdo it."

  8. ShadowOfDoubt

ShadowOfDoubt In the grim dark future. There is only SCG.

The artwork is fucking superb. Wish I had my good, old content and maps so I could get back into it.
If some of that was in the resolution for my desktop I'd be all over it.

Really liking the concept of it, and the thread is nice enough. Though threads are the least of the worries.

  9. Task Force was pretty cool I guess, and I like the idea of a fallout MRP, so guess I can hop on in.

As a former resident of the Mojave Desert, I can confirm that it is worse than the events depicted in this thread. 0/10 realism.

Kidding. In all seriousness, this looks cool as hell. I'll definitely be trying it out once it launches.

  11. Be sure to add me on steam so I can invite you to the group and whitelist you. Also, thanks to everyone for the kind words and support!

  16. The event was successful today, we had a few incidents that were stressful, but were resolved quickly. I'm personally sorry if I came off as upset to anyone today as well, I was the only admin on with about 20 people managing each situation that went down during the escape. I had about 20+ chat tabs open, and I tried my best to give everyone a good experience. I do want to say though, that some people need to chill. And I mean chill as in cool your shit or get kicked off. I was trying my best and there were a few certain people who kept prodding and bugging and eventually started swearing at me, not cool guys. Do understand that when you're the only person running a show while attempting to solve multiple issues/PMing people content, it takes quite a toll on you after awhile. When I also say I'm busy, I mean it, spamming the staff/me won't help your situation any further, be patient. The next session will be held on Saturday at the same time, 5pm PST.

I have also since then granted administration rights to a few trustworthy users so this doesn't happen again.

For those who were wondering why we're understaffed, two of our admins are on vacation and most of the IC leadership is on vacation as well.

For being the only admin on, you did pretty good, my man.

And yeah, I think you've run into the typical problems of the Gmod Clockwork RPer. Most of them tend to be hostile douche nozzles for no reason, but hopefully with the new admins including myself, we can fix some of these problems or mediate them.

I'll do my best to help out and do my part.
