Overcast: Post-Apocalyptic

Discussion in 'Communities' started by Swarx, Nov 16, 2015.

  1. Overcast
A post-apocalyptic RP with minor supernatural elements.

The world went to shit. You only wish you understood why it all happened.

It's been over a decade since the great cataclysmic storms wracked the world, and all those muties crawled out of the ruins. The weather has since calmed, and the monstrosities aren't quite as numerous as they used to be, at least. Survivors have built communities out of the ruins, and some semblance of order is present in at least a few places, however sparse they may be. But creatures still lurk in the mist, and rumor says that some have started to evolve and are becoming more dangerous. Many humans have since descended into insanity, or resorted to vicious marauding in order to survive.

You've heard talk about "the Bulwark", which is supposedly a powerful human settlement located in the city. Although they claim to be harbingers of order and unification, they're also said to be a debased, corrupt and almost feudalistic society. Equipped with hunting gear and outdated military surplus equipment, their forces masquerade as soldiers, but in reality they are poorly-trained militiamen controlled by leaders who are little more than violent warlords with jurisdiction over peasant-like survivors. Regardless, the Bulwark has subjugated several outlying smaller communities. It is possible that your only respite from the wasteland may be in some backwards, medievalist settlement that is under their control.

We're just getting started up. I suppose I'll put down a few basic principles I hope to follow. I've had plenty of experience as an average player, and I know what pissed me off.

    What I hope to do:
    • The rules are debatable. Discussions about the rules will not be shut down.
    • If someone is freaking out at an admin, rather than kicking the player for "disrespect", the admin should try to remedy their concerns to the best of their abilities. Kicking people for "disrespect" typically shouldn't even be a valid reason to kick somebody. If somebody starts talking shit, it should be an indicator of the current state of affairs, or the admin's recent actions.
    • "Admins roleplay too" isn't an excuse to ignore a player, if an admin could easily take two minutes or so to help them.
    • Admins should listen to the concerns of newbies. If they just joined, they won't type up a forum complaint.
    • Actual assistance > "Go make a thread about it."
    • Admins shouldn't get too attached to any of their personal characters, and they definitely shouldn't become part of a circlejerk group.
    • Casual RPing shouldn't be a high-ranking admin's PRIMARY focus. Events should be a big part of their job.
    • Heavily restricting weapons is bad, especially since being unarmed isn't even very realistic in this scenario. It's over a goddamn decade since the apocalypse. People are free to request a melee item to start with, and can asspull sticks or pocket knives at their own volition. Guns should be common, but mainly civilian ones.
    • Roleplayed deaths should be PKs; your character's life has actual meaning. This doesn't have to be strictly enforced to the letter, but it should be a general guideline.
    • If a player has adequate P2L and a solid RPing ability, they are able to become an "Event Helper" if they so choose. Mainly, it involves playing expendable, event-specific characters whenever they are called for.
    • You don't have to apply for everything, many things can be obtained by simply asking. When it comes to privileges, it should all come down to trusting the player. Any fucker can just write an application and make it look good.

  2. seems alright, the lore could use more expansion however.

  3. Yeah, you're right. As of now, things are rather vague. Though, there's somewhat more lore on the forum.

  4. you'll have to add it, otherwise moderators and or forum browsers will bitch and whine.
EDIT: I would like to add that I am obviously very interested in this RP, I assume PREDATOR is your co-owner, if you are looking for additional writers, an extra admin, a hand in general or just a player, I'll be about.

At the top you claim to have minor superhuman elements. I can't find anything about it in the thread, can you please explain?

  7. Edgy PTSD Characters might be problematic, but other then that I like your intentions.

  8. Mhm, Pred's my co-owner. He pretty much manages the technical stuff for me.

Mostly, I expect that to involve Orchestrators and strange environmental phenomenon. There probably won't be players running around with superpowers or anything, and I don't expect to be letting anybody control Orchestrators and the like besides me, and only on a strictly event-related basis.

Heh, that's good. I thought it would be in the terms of players having superpowers or strange stuff, but that clears it up. Sounds good. Goodluck with your server man!
