Rough Summary

Polar Vortex is community dedicated to serving it's players the finest Half-Life 2 Roleplay experience that we can offer. The community itself was only founded in September of 2014, but it's roots run all the way back to late 2012. The origination of Polar began in late 2012, with the community known as Overwatch Gaming. Overwatch Gaming was formerly owned by me, Vexus. It then turned into Tempest, and then into Onyx Heart, which it lay. But with the old players and old staff of Overwatch, I've created a second community here, but this time, more dedicated to serious roleplay. A few of the members with me today are members of Butt Sixteen.

I could probably name a few more if I could think of you (sorry if I missed.) The point of the matter is, I, Vexus, have experience running an HL2RP community, two years experience really, with an adding amount of two years of HL2 roleplay. I know the score, Sixx. I'm not going to allow just any roleplayer to come on by and do whatever they please. Polar is a quality enforced community. This does not mean we will not help new roleplayers where it is needed, but it also means that you cannot be incompetent or illiterate. We are strictly an English server. If you cannot speak English or know little of it, we will kindly ask you to leave the server. This is not racist and/or stereotypical, it is strictly because we cannot roleplay with someone who we cannot understand.

Canon

The timeline of Polar Vortex is as follows:

October of 2009 The Combine invade, sparking the Seven Hour War.

January of 2010 The invasion force leaves Earth, heading back to the Combine homeworld. The Overwatch arrive along with the Unified Civil Protection, which are the police of the new Earth. Cities are annexed and renamed to the fitting of the Combine. Citizens are drafted into cities around the world.

August of 2010 The last of the Lambda resistance are destroyed in City 76 in America. Only small, scarcely lethal rebellion groups are left in the cities.

May of 2012 The death of a rebel leader sparks an uprising in City X. Rebellious citizens throw themselves against the combine, hoping to make a difference. Overwatch are sent out to deal with the massive uprising. Elite units are dispatched, quickly killing off the resistance.

2016 Current time. Typical HL2 canon from here on out until I think of something good.

Factions

Unified Civil Protection
The police of the new Earth. The UCF keep order in the cities and maintain the stability of the Combine's rule on Earth. Rebellious groups are quickly disposed of by these units. Units are strictly enforced to focus on their task, and if they are not, they will be promptly amputated. There is no room in the UCF for fuck-ups. The ranks range from i5 to i1, then to EpU. The high commands begin with OfC, then to SqL, and then to DvL.

Citizen
The citizens are the last surviving humans of the Seven Hour War and the rebellions. You, as a citizen, can either comply with the UCF, or go against them. It is all strictly your choice. We do ask you, however, not to make a character just to make him into a rebel. This is a form of metagaming to Polar, and there will be consequences. The Civil Union are a seperate class, but still classify as a citizen. The Civil Union are the marketers of the cities. They sell food, clothes, or anything that can make them money, granted they are UU approved.

Overwatch Transhuman Arm
The Overwatch Transhuman Arm are rarely seen. You'd be lucky to see one in your life. But unlucky because if you see one, you get the fuck out of there.

Civil Union
Yes, I know, the routine Civil Union. How bland. But the Civil Union in Polar are re-vamped to actually serve a purpose. If you become a Civil Union, you can own a store or work in one. We also allow the Civil Union to oversee the work in the factories or work in them, granted the map has a factory. The Civil Union work with the City Administrator's office to help the city become a better place. At the same time, they must always report any crimes they commit or see. If a Civil Union breaks the law, they will fear something much more than death.

You might be thinking, what makes you different from other communities? Well, nothing. Absolutely nothing, yet. We ask you, the players, what you want to see different on the server, and we'll try our best to make it happen. The only reason there's nothing unique in the community is because I don't know what to add! That's why I ask you guys what you want to see. As stated before, we are a community for the players. We do accept donations, but you will not gain any benefits from them. Donations are strictly to help us fund the server.
