HL2RP Red Flag Gaming Rebirth Community

Discussion in 'Communities' started by Rainbow Anarchist, Nov 21, 2015.

  1. The server rules bother me, or at least, a few of them.

"Loyal citizens may not enter District 2 whenever they feel like it. This is due to a certain level of FearRP and for the sake of maintaining your status as a loyal citizen. Entering D2 (slums) can result in rep points being taken off by the MPF."

A rule like this one limits player freedom for practically no reason at all.

"Standing around in any area that is not the AFK area and either being AFK or doing OOC things with little to no RP is not allowed. You will be brought to an admin sit for this."

A rule like this limits player freedom, same as the last one. It's pointless. Some people just want some downtime and this rule, if anything, is only in place to give you a reason to ban people who are complaining about the server.

I misquoted the rules; I meant rule 14. A simple slip-up, as I still cited the correct rule, just with the wrong number. Also, no, you weren't "banned for being bullied." You were banned for breaking one of the rules, and if you'd bothered to read anything else on the rules post, you would see that we operate under a zero tolerance policy.

The first rule you've cited is not enforced by the administration, and is instead placed there as a heads up. This rule is more of an IC law enforced by the MPF. The second rule cited is not an excuse to ban people who are complaining about the server, it is a rule that says that if you're not contributing to RP then don't play on a roleplay server. To me, that makes a lot of sense. EDIT: There's nothing wrong with wanting downtime, which is why there's an afk area.

  3. If the first rule I cited is in-character, it should not be in the rules list. People should learn via interaction with other players or the Civil Protection. The second rule is still in the wrong too. Just because someone is not actively contributing to roleplay does not mean that they are doing anything wrong. Some people like to sit and listen, or they're there to give criticism to the server.

Valid input. I will remove the first cited rule, and I will change the second according to the following statement: In cases like Roth, in which a player joins the server, RPs for less than 5 minutes, and then begins to criticize everything about the server, I think they should be reprimanded somehow. What Roth did was try to complain about everything after having literally two to three IC interactions, then just wandered the plaza and complained in OOC. While some of his input was valid and appreciated, he generally just came off as, pardon my French, a dick. When the few players that were on lashed back at him, he started trying to make us feel guilty by saying that we were trying to make him commit suicide due to his terminal depression. While I'll not sit here and say that he doesn't have it, because in all likelihood he actually does have terminal depression, it was entirely unfair to use it as a scapegoat to get away with his arrogance. In light of this, I will change the second cited rule to say that more than 10 minutes of RP and at least one event must be experienced by the player before we will listen to any input they give on the actual roleplay. Is this a good compromise, or is it still too much?

EDIT: While editing the rules, I decided to make this the new rule: Criticizing the server without having experienced a sufficient amount of roleplay on our server will not be taken seriously by the administration, and in all probability will result in animosity from the other players. Please take this into consideration when playing on the server.

    Insight would be appreciated.

  5. I feel like cases where people come onto a server and criticize should be handled on a case-by-case basis, rather than a big blanket rule. On servers I've hosted, criticism - no matter who it comes from - was taken into consideration despite any reservations about the player giving us the criticism. While some people may come off as rude, I would advise that you take their input all the same. While I have your attention, i'd like to suggest you take a different route with your MPF ranking system. Divisions are quite stale and overdone and, in my opinion, pointless. The idea of a security force for the Civil Worker's Union that is supplied with uniforms similar to the ones MPF wear is also, for the lack of a better word, dumb.

A few of the issues I had in my short time on your server was the lack of things for citizens to do that weren't CWU, MPF, or rebel related. There weren't any worthwhile things that actually caught my attention and made me go, "Wow, this server is unique and great!" It seemed almost generic. Try brainstorming some ideas to make roleplaying as a normal citizen worthwhile that doesn't involve being loyal to the Combine, such as jobs or work.

I see where you're coming from now. I'll make the appropriate changes. In regard to your issues with the MPF, as I'm not nearly as experienced with the MPF as @Rainbow Anarchist is, I'll let him respond to those. When it comes to citizen rp, we really do want to make it a unique and refreshing experience. We will continue to think of ways to make passive citizen rp more interesting and unique, and so far what we've been doing is trying to promote passive rp through subtle events. However, contrary to the expected, citizens have not drawn out the events as much as would be desired. We think this is mainly our fault for not being specific enough with the events so that they may be expanded upon by the citizens.

Thanks for all your input and your kind demeanor. EDIT: That was just a sidenote. I'm not trying to end the conversation here. Please, if you have more to say it would be gladly accepted.

Side note, events shouldn't be predetermined unless it's a special occasion. Most events should be spontaneously created by the players, and you should also let them know that. Events don't just fall from the sky like rain, but should rather be produced by the player. Of course, predetermined events can still be viable if, say, the CA were to arrive or some special occasion has to occur first before any events can take place afterwards. Other than that, any and all events should be started by the average player.

I don't know how you actually do events in RFG, but this is definitely the best way to go about it.

Well, from what I've observed, it isn't common on our server that events are started by the actual players through their own RP. Interactions between the citizens is unfortunately low, which is why we try to increase them with events in the first place. I'm not usually the one doing events, it's usually @Rainbow Anarchist, so I would suggest asking him how the events work.

  9. Please tell me this is a joke.

    EDIT because banned:

I think that was charactized even more by the fact that when he said something stupid about the server again, I said: "Keep pulling the trigger." Too bad the moderators deleted that.

I apologize if you don't like it, but if you're going to whine about it at least give me something to work with so that I might make it better.

Yeah, except if you'd have read anything else after that you would see that I got rid of that, and if you'd actually read the rule itself, you would see that it was hardly a rule at all in that wasn't enforced. Which is just another reason I removed it.

    Why is it that these threads always end up like it, this whole 'Gaming Communities' section is just a big mess where the self-proclaimed elitists of RP will demand professionally written essays in-order to even bother looking at the server, and reply with 'yeah maybe i'll come on and join ur server bro'. I get it's "serious" Role-Play but it almost seems pointless to server owners to even bother posting threads on here, sure it's the official 'CloudSixteen Forums' unless I'm really underestimating the traffic here on these forums I doubt even writing and creating the best thread for a gaming community server will show a substantial increase in server traffic. It just seems to me it's catering to only a small majority of people and unless I see a server owner admitting to having a substantial increase in traffic ever-since posting a thread for their server then I'm pretty sure I'm right. Look at the more popular servers our there, ShockCore Gaming for example;

It's fairly late where I'm at, albeit it is a Friday I rarely see that server ever go down below a population underneath that of 10.
Does ShockCore Gaming have a thread posted on C16? Not that I've seen or heard of.

tl;dr advertising your server on C16 seems pointless because the only population you'll attract is a small amount of stuck-up elitists who will stay for about 10 minutes then complain they aren't getting enough action as a citizen.

Also. Stuff like this is just ridiculously outrageous and stupid. How are you allowed to get away with stuff like this?

I respect you. You seem like a legitimately reasonable person. One of the first, other than @Vexus, @Kennyy, etc. that I've seen on this particular thread.

There are servers that are legit scared of advertising on C16 because they'll be crucified by the wonderful userbase we have here. And some of those servers are actually really good too!

I believe this thread is a sufficient example of such an outcome. I, myself, was oblivious to the repulsive community, however I can't say the same for my co-owner. Whether or not he knew, he is incredibly cool-headed when he puts his mind to it.

Honestly, I would see about putting some effort in the screenshots as that's what people look at the most in threads. Same goes for images.

Neither I nor the co-owner made them. They were the work of one of our admins, who did not make them for the purpose of using them in this thread. I agree that they could have been better, however.
