It wouldn’t be S.T.A.L.K.E.R. without constant support and interest for the factions. Our main focus will be having players in charge of the factions while leaving our administrators to worry about the OOC issues; we want our players to be able to make choices that will greatly affect the server and their respective factions, rather than just the staff team influencing the flow of the server. Our factions and setting is based near the events of Shadow of Chernobyl, so each recognizable faction will be included; this being Duty, Freedom, Ecologists, The Ukrainian Military - and, of course, technicians and traders. Hopefully as the server continues we will see player-based factions being put into the mix alongside our already-established factions, adding a bit of uniqueness and more choices for the player base to experience.
“Stalkers exploring the Zone on their own. Most stalkers work this way since being a member of a group takes precious time, and part of the loot. Then there are some who simply prefer solitude and independence.”
Loners - the term used to describe factionless Stalkers. Completely individual to their own ideals and actions, they make up a majority of the population in the Zone. Despite the name, Loners aren’t always ‘alone’; player-made groups can form their own ideals and goals, and grow at their own discretion. As the group is easily the largest of all in the Zone, there’s a great amount of diversity among them - ranging from friendly stalkers who want nothing but to see themselves and others succeed, to others whose pure goal is to grab every script possible at the expense of others.
“Do you want to earn the respect of fellow stalkers? Do you want to build a team of loyal friends who will stick up for you in times of trouble? Do you dream of kicking some Duty ass? All this and many other opportunities awaits you if you join Freedom!”
Freedom is a group of stalkers who bounded together to fight for “freedom” in the Zone; they want the Zone to be available to everyone, as opposed to the views of Duty. Duty wants the Zone to be demolished, along with mutants and anomalies inside of it. Freedom’s views are more centered around a communistic way of life, unlike Duty whom which are based upon a militaristic view. Because Freedom wants the Zone to be free, they often get into firefights and disputes with Duty. Freedom and Duty are currently set at a ceasefire in our server until the playerbase develops Duty and Freedom’s future.
“Deadly anomalies, dangerous mutants, anarchists and bandits... None of them will stop Duty on its triumphant march towards saving the planet!”
Duty is mainly composed of ex-military and the common stalker. Their main objective is to have the Zone terminated completely. Of course, these ideals counter-act with Freedom, which has caused conflict. Duty shares similar ideals with the Ukrainian Military - the only difference is Duty is more about destroying the zone in its entirety, whereas the Military is focused on making the Zone a restricted area, keeping it out of the hands of the public. They do what they can to be friendly with stalkers, as recruitment is always important in such a harsh environment. They are currently at a ceasefire in our server lore with Freedom, but can be changed by what the playerbase and members of the faction decide.
“The reason I've survived in this place as long as I have is that I always keep my word. You screw a client in this place, and you're pretty likely to find a knife in your back real quick.”
Traders are essentially the backbone of the Zone - without them, stalkers would have trouble getting established ways of bartering. Traders are everyone’s friend and everyone’s enemy, because their goods can save a life and help take another. They supply the public with consumables, medical supplies, weapons, ammunition, and even more items that help increase the chances of survivability in the Zone. They often deal out tasks and missions to the local populace. Completing these tasks usually rewards the participants with supplies or the common currency - rubles.
“All kinds. Almost all of 'em. A Duty technician is the best in the whole Zone, got that? I can upgrade your machine gun like no one else. I can make you bulletproof like no one else. Point is, I know my stuff.”
Technicians and traders are synonymous when it comes to necessity. As per the obvious, technicians fix gadgets. Anything that can be mended, sewn, taken apart and have parts replaced or fixed, they could likely get working again; rifles, pistols, clothes, kevlar, and masks - they are the handyman of the Zone. Technicians have the ability to modify some weaponry or suits to the customer’s liking, such as adding a suppressor or scope to a rifle, or increasing the armor rating on a chest rig. While possibly being costly for the average run-of-the-mill Stalker, one little adjustment at the hands of a technician could save a life.
