Hi, I'm Tommy - the manager of Shavargo Roleplay's Sector Four Half-Life 2 Roleplay. I am in-charge of the forums and the HL2RP server, keeping everything as good as it can get - I try to make the server reach that happy-medium of following canon while also creating as many possible roleplay experiences for a our players to achieve. Note that this does not mean I'm strictly only doing what the canon says exists - there are plenty of things that are not shown in the actual Half-Life 2 game, but are very easily possible to be in the dystopian society that is post-war Earth. If you see anything you do not like or see things that you would like to see, PLEASE post it either on this thread or in the suggestions subforum so that I may read them and address it. We are constantly looking for ways to make the server better, and any advice is accepted.

Our server's Union - or more commonly known as "The Combine" - has been named the CMB (Combine Metropolice Batallion) and is a little bit different than what you normally see on HL2RP servers, but definitely not something that has never been seen before; more-so a combination of infrastructures I've seen.

Instead of having different divisions for unit specializations, we simply have squadrons. The only difference between our squadrons is the name and who is leading it - besides that, everything is the same. If you wish to be a medical, mechanical, or interrogation-based unit, that is of your own accord and is generally not tracked by the Union; you are to train in your wanted field by yourself, and answer and ask questions to other units if you need any assistance with anything. If this system doesn't seem to be working when time goes on, we will begin making it a little harsher in that you are assigned a field to pursue and will be expected to know the ins and outs.

Ranks will not be visible to anybody - including your fellow units. Your name will be following the format of: CMB:SQUADRON:#####. The only ones who will know your rank is the squadron leaders, the commandant, yourself, and any who you wish to tell.

There is only one terminal in the armoury for supplies - however, none of them have any firearms, only ammunition. To achieve a firearm, you must be given one by your Squadron Leader when you reach sufficient rank (i4 for a nine millimetre handgun, i2 for a sub-machine gun.) This is to prevent unnecessary distribution of weaponry. If you are to lose your firearm for any (IC) reason, you may be penalized.

To be promoted, you must attend an evaluation session - which only happen once a week. There is no training as per typical "training" in HL2RPs except for the recruit education program that you must go through when you join the Union before being permitted into an evaluation session. If you have ever been in a server that uses "mass training sessions" where every unit is brought together to be trained, that is the basics of our evaluations; just with less "this is what you do" and more "tell me what you should do." However, you may do stereotypical "HL2RP training" by yourself or with some fellow units if they wish to join, or if your squadron leader wishes for you to do some extra training. You can read more about training sessions in this thread.

Work - work is the only way that will enhance a citizen's lifestyle and give them what exactly they want. Jobs are assigned to citizens when the first arrive to the city, and it's a way that they can earn reputation alongside a couple of other benefits on the side if they show good work; such as loyalist points. Jobs have a large variety, a few being: apartment maid, garbage man, civil worker, and citizen-owned store employee. Jobs are the best way to earn tokens throughout the time as a citizen, and will assist you in going higher in the different classes of citizen.

Loyalty points - it's what a true citizen works for to obtain a higher status with the Union. There is a multitude of ways to obtain loyalty points, such as doing good deeds to assist the union, making sure that you help your fellow citizens in need, and pushing the motto of the Union even further throughout the borders of the city. As well, doing deeds and showing good effort while you do your citizen jobs is a great way to achieve more loyalist points, and will generally be the main way you receive them.

Loyalty points can be used in two main fashions. You can hold onto them and use it to climb the loyalist ranking, which will in-turn give you certain perks (Read the perks here), or you can spend them in return for tokens - such as using them to buy extra clothing or a bit more food to keep you on your feet.

As well, we were also thinking about adding another type of job that may add a different approach to propaganda - a radio host. The radio host would be a confirmed loyalist of (Silver/Gold) status or above (We aren't sure which one we want to do yet), and will be given a microphone in an undisclosed location in which they can speak into, which will transmit to the stationary radio in the Plaza's cafe. Generally the radio will be full of recent news that are shown in a heavily biased fashion in favour of the Universal Union for that extra edge of propaganda to the citizens.

Here is a list of the plugins we are currently using on the server. Ones that are not self-explanatory will have a definition next to them. Ones that are not as commonly used will be at the top.

"Terminal" - Created by Crapy: Replaces /viewdata with a placeable terminal. Allows reading of citizen data, setting citizen status, and adding/removing loyalist points/anti-citizen points/detainment points
"Broadcast Signal" - Created by Crapy: If two radios are on the same frequency, if they are too far apart they will begin stuttering out, making it increasingly harder to understand the other person the further you are.
"Jail Timer" - Created by Crapy: Adds a timer inside and outside jail cells that tell how long the person has left. A metropolice may use the outside timer to set the time, and the metropolice HUD will state in the top left when a timer is up.

Oof. Pretty Post. Only thing I suggest is implementing the Lore in which the server runs off of. Otherwise, this is a great, clean and tidy Post.

I left out the lore as I feel it is an unnecessary section of a community thread. It follows the HL2RP lore, and everything that differentiates from it is in the thread in the various sections - the lore would simply be posting the URL to HL2's lore. However, if you'd like me to, I can write up the lore and post it - but I can promise it won't be too much different from things you've already read if you know HL2's lore.

Ah. I see. I see many servers and assume they have some type of custom lore. I was not aware this followed HL2's Lore. Good to know, though as I will be checking out your server in the next few minutes

Even Obama could make a better server than this.

I'm sure I'll get a message from you at some point when it's up Tommy, maybe I'll pop in

Yup! Before I joined, there was some issues with the administration team working together and the metropolice was a bit of a mess.
Ever since I got Operator I was working on fixing things and making the administrators more of friends than just co-volunteers, and now that I'm assigned to manager I can start molding things into a greater server! I'm hoping to make a good HL2RP, as I've yet to see one truly in the past couple of months that I feel do everything right. I want to do just that, which is why I want EVERYBODY'S suggestions so no-one feels there is something they don't like.

    Good job Tommy.
It's nice to see the c16 post be revamped.
I'm back he from vacation so I'll be on tonight.

  9. I like the thread, however...

I was looking into your Civil Protection System, and I didn't find much elaboration on a lot of the things that needed doing so, such as the ranking system. (That was the main one.)

Other than that, good job, and good luck!

UPDATE: We will be working on fixing up citizen jobs and changing how they work.

Read more about it here. We are going to work on implementing Haggis's idea while also merging it with our own.

  11. It looks promising, so far. But I do wonder about the Combine you seem to plan on doing: Is it going to be entirely metropolice or will there be other branches operating with different purposes (judging by the definition of CMB you use)? Such as Administration or other things you may come up with. And assuming there will be an administrative group, would they fall behind metropolice in terms of authority or would they be superior?

Citizens have an interesting RP style. I quite like it.
