Setting up CW and creating a custom Schema.

Discussion in 'Programming' started by CammyB96, Aug 3, 2014.

  1. Is there a guide I can look at for setting up CW and creating a schema? I'm not new to programming but I'm new to server and lua programming

I don't understand what you mean by 'setting up CW'.

Also, if you're new to .lua, then you shouldn't be making your own schema.

Read up Lua tutorials online. To get started with CW, you should learn how to make plugins.

It will be a while before you are ready to make anything big if you are new to Lua. You can't jump into these sorts of things with no experience.

  4. By setting up I mean an explanation of how CW works, installing it and how to get started. I've programmed in Java, C++ and C# before so I'm looking to get a basic CW server set up so I can start digging around.

  7. RJ made an improved skeleton around here somewhere, can anyone find it?

This is RJ's schema skeleton, not sure if it's the improved one:

    Creating a schema isn't just

edit value here > edit thing here > add factions/items/classes/ > done

There is a lot more to creating an in-depth schema than there appears to be.

Also, I suggest building off the FORP schema if you have it. It's pretty barebones but has the essential schema scripts and whatnot.

  10. Yeah, that's it.

I'd honestly recommend learning C# or C++ if you haven't already before Lua.

Why? And he says he already knows C++.
