a well made post, which I don't think I haven't seen in a while. he didn't use the typical and generic answers, time to check this server out

 

Nice looking community introduction.

 

Been server hopping latley to find a new community. This was by far the best experince I've had. Not the type of community that has its staff only rp with eachother. Five minutes of joining I was engaging in good rp, very happy with my find.

jesus christ why are subs an acceptable medium for a fucking roleplay server

this all sounds like a money grab tbh

ive never been one to see subs as a good thing, but i pay out of pocket for a 30 slot server, which isn't much on nfo, like 25 bucks or so

ur also grossly commodifying the player experience by selling your 'premium' subscriptions , which gives me somewhat of a hint that your really not making an attempt to "bring back serious half life rp to the roleplaying environment". all the images on your thread looks to be a front to fluff up your server as if it really valued the player experience (also u didnt even mention the subs on this page so there is just another example of that)

 

Okay, I see your points. I understand and will remove the subscription based storefront.

Please allow me to explain before trashing my server before giving it a try, as I promise you can find a genuinely fun roleplay experience in our community.
One of my players asked for a place to provide revenue for the server and I figured i would offer them multiple outlets that would also provide them benefits without causing them to pay all of their money. I can assure you the server is not a cash grab, as I have had this conversation before. Our server came from me and a friend deciding to try and relive memories of a past roleplay experiences (You would note if you joined us, we have 2 members of staff).
I'm more than willing to pay for the server out of pocket, and the profits were purely meant to go towards increasing server capacity and ability. I know that's a lot to believe and trust from a guy who has maybe 4 posts on this forum and I probably wouldn't believe it either, but I have been around for awhile and believe that the genuine experience of roleplay comes from the in-game quality of content which is why our forums are somewhat barren. I told this to my friend the other day, I'm a content provider not a service provider.
The subs came as a last minute addition to fulfill a request which is why they are not on this post. Also take note I'm not trying to sell anything that would unfairly advantage a "Premium" player. These are optional commodities that allow them to gain benefits from supporting the server should they choose to. I never once have referred anyone to the store except my co-founder to say "hey does the website look alright?" While I am defending my decision to include this as optional content, I will still be removing the storefront as your criticism shows it is un-welcomed.

Thank you again for the criticisms and I honestly hope they keep coming as I want to make this community as best as possible for my players.
Should you find something else that defaces my community as a legitimate source of entertainment please do continue to post on here as I hope to find any and all things that will shine badly upon us.

Just a quick P.S. as I know a common tactic among server owners is the "Oh I've been caught, better take this down and bring it back a few months from now" method, but I promise it is not in my motive or goal to make profit off of this server.​

That's not always the case. You can't just call a server shitty just because of their proposed ways of getting donations. Me personally, I don't agree with a sub system. I'd personally go for something simple. A small - three tier 5, 10, 15 dollar donation system. Something that players can choose to give if they feel like it without feeling pressured to.

 

im not talking about small donations
thats cool ive always been fine with donations

but when the only thing thats set up is a subscription page while your forums and everything else is pretty much incomplete/nonexistant, especially with the promise of factions, models and so forth
chances are your server is shitty

 

Alright, I get that. I see where you're coming from. But I usually give people the benefit of the doubt.

But just some advice for the community owner, I suggest you finish everything first before trying to set up a donation system. It only looks bad for you when you only focus on that one aspect.

 

i mean... just looks like your typical hl2rp server. i don't see anything special that's going to help 'revive the playerbase' or w/e

 

Our server has hence moved to City 45 to support our growing population. Hope this causes no confusion in relation to the above post.

Expanding on this, if you use NFO they have a donation system. Players can donate straight to your NFO. All donations are non-refundable, and most importantly in the eyes of your players, non-transferable. So, it can only go to keep the server online.
