  2. ive always said that if you want to be succesful, have donations give minimum to no rewards, that way you aren't monetizing something that everyone else is/has/should be doing for free

also this server looks like any run of the mill hl2rp to me, besides the fact you've put a bit more effort into your post. Weekly events, hourly rations and IC rebel groups are all a given with HL2rp, or at least should be imo.

truthfully unless you customize almost every aspect of HL2RP, or you add things which are fresh to the gamemode, I don't think many people will compete with the big dogs

I'd suggest getting custom media created, retexturing models, getting some custom scripts made and personalizing your schema as best you can.

Also, show off any unique models, maps with actual screenshots rather than just describing them :)

Gl, it's always cool to see how servers like this develop

this has been a philosophy i've always strongly agreed with. it makes no damn sense to charge people in hl2rp for anything. donating for pet flags has been a big one, and it's retarded. it should be a trust based system, not "give me money"

unless you're running like an 80 slot server, if you have to have donations to keep your server up you're doing it wrong.

  4. Thanks for the ideas and suggestions! We're currently working with a small team to get personalized content just for our server! We're hoping to completely re-hash the ideal of living in an almost Orwellian society and provide a new experience for Civilians and MPF Units!

  5. That's been done a million times, I've tried it, Night Hawke has tried it.

Do something else, honestly, people aren't that into it.

EDIT: That was a bit blunt, what I'm suggesting is instead of making it based on 1984, do something else. Maybe go far into the future, go far into the past. I don't know, set it somewhere weird and different, kind of like .DUST are doing.

Or, make it such a solid HL2RP that it can compete with Nebulous, but you're going to need a lot of original ideas how to do that and keep it interesting whilst sharing the same timeline.

  6. Off-topic, but maybe a help considering you stated it would be IC resistance.
From my experience it's nearly impossible to have any sort of impact resistance-wise unless you're buttbuddies with an admin or an admin yourself. Which is shitty in itself, but regardless, there should be at least some resistance. Most of the enjoyable times City RP has been fun for me is when there is a consistent resistance force with guns who WILL try to shotcop (with proper RP of course, preferably S2M/injure). I haven't even participated in that directly, but being around it and reacting to what happens is so much better than sitting on a bench talking about how much you hate rations with someone for 2 hours. I agree with the fact that it should be handled ICly, but you have to have OOC influences to allow that to work in the first place like having someone who sells firearms. There's only been one server that I've been on where there was an actual good BMD who sold to whoever provided they had a reasonable amount of tokens. Not this meme where they hide 24/7 and only give guns to their friends.

  7. The thing is I think people on C16 always ask for these HL2RP server requirements which 'aren't cringey' and expect RP to literally be handed on a plate.

My honest and best advice I can give you with HL2RP is to make sure that you as a server owner want to play on your own server.

Is it actually fun, or is it so realistic and restrictive like P-1 and a lot of my communities have been that it loses it's fun altogether as a sacrifice for consistency and theme?

What I'd suggest is that you make something which is actually fun over trying to make it flashy. Don't think about all of it too much, just rock up on your server, get a few people to join and give them a good time. Once they've had their fun, they might stay, and if they do then you've just gained a small playerbase. Having that small playerbase is a huge thing, and then you can grow outwards from there.

Keep on repeating this with new players, literally drag people into RP and make sure that it's fun RP, even if some people would call it cringey. Events where people are walking round cleaning the streets and doing petty or pointless things are bad for RP, make big events happen where a lot of people are involved and that a lot of people can talk about/get involved in somehow. Big infamous rebel groups, large scale disasters and stuff like that are very effective.

Essentially, what anyone tells you to do, don't do it unless you think it's something you'd want to play yourself. Make it fun over anything, if that means using /roll and having 2000 CP divisions then do it, if that means having a 5:1 CP:Citizen ratio then do it, just make sure that you're pleasing people. HL2RP is this really intense and toxic environment now where if you don't abide to strict rules like 'No Divisions' and 'S2K' and 'Rations available 24/7' and 'Mandatory workshifts' and '1:5 ratios' (I could go on) your server isn't considered decent or good, but the fact is you'd probably do a lot better than many of the servers who are abiding by these concepts.

Get rid of these P2W donations, support the community, encourage 'special snowflake' characters and make something you enjoy, that way others will enjoy it too.
