Starting a HL2 RP Server. Tips?

Discussion in 'Discussion' started by DayDreamer, May 25, 2014.

  1. Hello. I'm starting an HL2RP server with my community and I would like some tips or guidelines on do's and donts. So...basicly, I just don't want to be like 65% of the HL2RP servers that have autistic people with little to none common sense. Thanks in advance!

Ban everyone on the server the first time they jump/run

  3. Got it. /me writes down on the invisible notepad of non-existance

I'll give you some real tips for once.
    1. Presentable Staff, Meaning people you know can do well as staff and aren't just your friends.
    2. Catchy server name in the server list. Dumb, But usually works.
    3. Ban me. I generally make other players feel bad with me eight line try-hard /me's

  5. Yeah, what Hipster said. Except for the third pointer. See, he tries to be a good roleplayer, but he literally cannot. He steals everything from me, which would make him a good roleplayer, but... he capitalizes after -EVERY- comma, so it ruins it.

Liar. I think you forgot who won Our /me competition second time around.
    It was yours truly.
So. Ha. Dred, Bow before your master.

  7. Hahaha, thanks guys. I really appreciate it.

    1. Read my thread guide.
    2. Use /advertadd everywhere.
    3. Make the map look fuckin' presentable. Every object you put in the world can be RP'd with. No exclusions.
    4. Handle your staff professionally. Make sure they format their bans and don't act on their own personal behalf in OOC.
    5. Make sure the quality of RP between MPF and Citizens is quality.
    6. Use a small content pack, no one likes being overburdened with shit they don't need/will see once in server.
    7. See that ban button? It's not your way to end an argument.
    8. Don't buttfuck the canon too much, modify it, sure. Everyone likes something unique. But don't dissapoint diehard HL2RP'ers, either.

  9. You sir, are legendary.
Wasn't even thinking of messing with the Canon too much. Everything else was really helpful. Thanks.

It's Sixx. Once again covering every detail in how to make a server.
    I applaud you Sixx.
But he forgot the banning me one.
    0/10.

One idea is to simply not use hl2rp, so many of them are the same. But dont make a different idea either because no one will join it because it is new. It is a never ending cycle of people staying on servers they already go to and end up not joining new ones. Yo be honest the hl2rp section is saturated by new servers right now. If you want playerbase, expect minges and a bad server. But dont worry it will be full, want a good server however? Expect around 5 players who are your friends to join and play. That is unfortunately how things go and how ive experienced them. Small servers are fun and friendly while big servers are mingy and terrible.

Edit - Hipster, get on steam plox.

Tbh, normal hl2rp content looks ugly. But that might be just me. But as little content as possible is good.

  17. Thanks, but me and my community really enjoy HL2RP. :p

Nah, don't just disregard addons and content altogether. Clockwork does provide stuff you need to make things look fancy as well as immersive, but it's sometimes not enough, especially when you're looking at aesthetics. Plugins are nice, just don't put over 90 or something like Vortex Gaming did. If you do that, you'll have so much for the server to load up and it'll bug out and get confusing and all kinds of shit.
Same stands for map decor, make it look nice, sure. But don't anally destroy people's FPS.

    Golden rule; less is more.

Yes, this man knows what he speaks of. I endorse his idea and approve it whole heartedly.

  20. That is what I've been wanting to hear. Thanks.
    I'm trying to re-learn the whole HL2RP canon,terms,ect.. Since I'm only semi-new. (A returning player.)
