Starting a HL2 RP Server. Tips?

A tad late to the party, but here's my two cents.


Anyone giving you advice is how they'd like to see it. Valterain likes it Vanilla, and the next guy likes it so modified, you can literally shit out three different Sectorial models.

Bottom line; How do you want it to be?

 

While that is definitely a good way of putting it, it's often better to make it how your community may want it slightly because otherwise, you're only going to get people who like it the way you want it to be. There must be compromises on either sides and strike a happy balance between everyone in the community/server.

Here'sa tip for creating a HL2RP server: don't.

Simple as, don't do it. Let the good ones grow without more hinderance. They have enough popular, shitty servers to work around as it is. They don't need more.

While I'm not saying yours will most likely be shit off the bat, I'm just trying to say that we basiclly have enough servers already. Just let the good ones grow, and the bad ones die.
Although usually it's vice-versa.

 

If you use Metropack, trim it down into a smaller pack so there's not a million unused models.
But really though, you should only need one MPF model, a second one for female units if you have to.
Also, if you use TnB, use the cop models in that. They're decent enough and if you know a bit of Luan you can code them to have armbands for their rank (The TnB models have skingroups for armbands that go from 04-01 and CmD).

If you want your server to stand out, I'd recommend making your own stuff or hiring someone to.

Remember; when making a server, funding is vital.

Ignore the rest of these guys saying don't make one.

Make sure you keep your staff and players in line, ban them if you need to, but just remember that's not the way out to an argument. Try to avoid free websites/hosting, as well, it says a lot about your community when you do.

Thing with HL2 Beta RP? It was generally a much darker and overall more oppressing game, feeling and generally everything. CitizenRP will be even more oppressing than it is now and probably more boring too, but that might just be me.
