We- obviously, are a new community looking to attract more dedicated and experienced roleplayers. We've been up and running the server for about a week now and we are still seeking more members. Currently all members of our community are members of our staff team and we are looking to get normal everyday players who are willing to dedicate their time, or at least someone of it, to our server. Our forums (http://stygain.gaming.bz/) has been running for a shorter length of time than the gaming server and we are currently working on applications and forum threads to get people into using the forums. Both myself and the other current members of the staff team dedicate as much as our time as possible to the server and are looking for members who are willing to do the same. We are also looking for any type of feedback at all on our server to help us improve it.

This is the current list of different factions on our server (not including factions used for events)
    • Citizen
    • Civil Worker's Union
    • Willard Industries
    • Metropolice Force
    • OTA
    • Administrator
    • Staff on Duty (restricted to members of the staff team)
    • Creamator
    • Vortigaunt
    • Loyalist's Council
While we may have more custom-set classes inside each faction, these are the main classes/factions used on the server.

The citizen faction is slightly altered from that of a default HL2RP server. We offer many different activities or custom classes for citizens to play under. These include but are not limited to : Loyalist's Council, Willard Industries, and volunteers, both of these custom classes will be explained in detail. More activities that we frequently offer to citizens includes work shifts. Work shifts are run by the CWU under permission from the MPF and offer a chance for citizens to complete work for the CWU, and upon completion of said work receive rewards. These rewards would be small items, such as : bonus rations, water, any type of UU-branded food. Moving onto the custom classes that are provided to the Citizen's Faction. These are classes that can be applied for in-character (assuming you possess the necessary IC requirements) and are available only to citizens. The Loyalist's Council is a group of people (obviously loyalists only) who meet weekly to discuss the troubles of the city regarding citizens. The idea of this class is to create somewhat of a false democracy where all members of the group come to an agreement regarding a situation or solution to a problem, this group would be considered false democracy because they must present their ideas to the MPF- who then have the final say in what goes down inside the city. This group is mainly focused around PassiveRP and gives people another aspect to roleplay from. The second custom class is Willard Industries. Willard Industries is a company owned and run by the MPF. The role of the employees inside of Willard Industries is to package and seal all the food and stamp it UU-branded. While most of this is PassiveRP and not actually creating and stamping food- it again like the other classes gives citizens more than one way to RP. More often then not during work shifts the CWU will ask regular citizens (who are not in the Willard Industries Company) to take on the roles of these employees. While this is not permanent and only should last around thirty minutes OOCly, during this time period CWU would have authority over the Willard Industries employees. Lastly is volunteers. Volunteers are citizens who help out other citizen run organizations: An example of this would be a citizen volunteering to help CWU. In this case the job of the volunteer would possibly be to deliver shipments to stores or to make sure all owners of the currently run stores have the proper paperwork. Volunteers are a very flexible faction/class in terms of what their role is.

This faction obviously does not include the resistance members on the server (although they still show under the Citizen Faction on the scoreboard).

The term 'advanced' in this case is used rather vaguely. Our system of preventing metagaming is used by many other servers as well but we believe that it is a very good, and effective system. In order to enter the sewers on our map (which is basically the where all of the resistance members on our server make their bases) you need a few items in order to enter. OOCly we have blocked many of the entrances that are usual suspects for metagaming, including: The Cinema, the vent inside District Four, the door under the Metropol, the Grizzly Groto bathroom door, as well as the shop inside of District Four. We blocked these entrances to prevent metagame, but as well to optimize the gas zone system we use on our server. On our server we use gas zones in the entrance of the sewer to prevent random players from running down claiming that they're part of the 'resistance'. In order to enter into these gas zones you need to create/buy/find a Gas Mask Suit w/ Filters. We believe this makes the ratio of anti-citizens to citizens more balanced and prevents the entire server from being inside of the sewers. ICly in order to find one of these suits you must either find someone who sells them, find one somewhere inside of District Four, or craft one using the plugin we have installed for crafting this type of item(crafting is later explained in the post). Now although only player with these suits can enter the sewers, other members of the resistance can still be an active member of this group by delivering the other members supplies that they wouldn't otherwise have access to. Such as food, water, or tokens for purchasing items. An addition: Not all of the rebel groups inside of our server are related to the same group, or get along very well ICly. Overtime ICly many different groups have been created and are all run by separate people. Also on our server we use IC black market dealers(players with vV flags) to keep the amount of black market items on the server at a minimal.

    (Still under development)
We use a set of plugins that optimize the experience for citizens looking to become rebels. We have set randomized spawn points inside of District Four that spawn crafting items. Inside of the citizen's tab menu they will see a section labeled 'Crafting', inside this section you can deconstruct items that you already have into crafting materials, or use your created/found materials to make certain items that you have recipes for. Examples :Empty Cans-Scrap Metal, Scrap Metal + Cloth-Armor Scraps, Armor Scraps + Damaged Kevlar-Repaired Kevlar.
Although there are plenty of random spawn points inside of District Four, the drop rate of contraband items is low and does not happen often. Drops inside of District Four can include(but not limited to): Medical Supplies (bandages, health vials, etc.), crafting materials, melee weapons (extremely uncommon), non-UU branded food(explained later). When you first join the server you start with a certain number of crafting recipes, more recipes for advanced items such as kevlar, gas mask suits, and weapons, can be applied for on the forums.

On our server we have each different district of the map labeled, and set-up an onscreen notification when entering a different district.
Each District and it's description :
District One : District to the right of spawn, containing mostly shops and warehouses that can be owned by people with the correct permits
District Two : Area outside of the Nexus, including the main loyalist apartments, the plaza, CWU Building, WI Building, Union Medical Building, Ration Distribution, and a few shops.
District Three : Area outside of District Four, containing two large apartment buildings for non-loyalists, and as well as a large run down cinema.
District Four : A large area that is often under the radar of the MPF (unless there is a Scanner or OTA on) This area is labeled on all the fence entrances and is usually a place where resistance members and edgy citizens hang out.
All of this districts are clearly labeled as you walk into them.

On our server we have two different types of foods, UU and Non-UU branded food. UU-branded food is obviously food that is given out by the MPF inside of rations. This food is very unhealthy and contains little to no protein providing citizens with minimal energy. Aside from UU food we also have Non-UU food. Food which can be bought from BMD and as well as found inside District Four. This food is considered contraband- but for a good reason. Eating an non-UU food will provide the player's character with permanent attribute boosts. This boosts include bonus agility, stamina, endurance, acrobatics, and strength. Any Non-UU food provides a bonus two points to each attribute group.

Your advertisement doesn't look too appealing, most of these custom features are already being used by most other servers. Gas and crafting seems more of a gimmick than anything. You should also focus your appeal away from the rebels and move it towards the citizens themselves. If being a rebel is so good why bother ever playing a citizen?

  3. How so a gimmick? and I mentioned more citizen features than rebel features.

big wall of text but it sounds alright at least, but for fuck's sake, let me point some things out.
yeah dude, no shit. pun intended. everyone looks to expand their community, how does that entice us?
oh great! so looks like you won't need any new players then, way to sell your case
any half way decent server does this, this isn't an earth shattering change to the way you're handling the rebel:CP ratio
explain them, don't just say you have something and expect that to be enough
(inb4 you say 'but it clearly says on the list!' because that's still furthering my point)
good observation captain obvious, but how does you knowing this make the server any more balanced in terms of RP? are you gonna give the citizens guns and make them fight the UU too? (before you point out that i 'haven't read the thread properly' this is satire and not what i'm actually expecting you're going to do oh fucking whatever)
again, explain how your features work, how are they custom, what makes them so special from the other hundred servers that have "custom features" written in big fucking neon letters all over them
    nobody asked/cares.
not to blow my own trumpet but take my thread as an example on how to actually market your community well
as for running a community, if you have the experience you say you have, it's no different depending on the game mode. people just whine about shit more often.

take my advice with a grain of salt, homie. peace xo

something I've noticed is that you've taken a lot of concepts from other servers, some are even ripped directly, trying to rebrandish them as 'new'

now that isn't a particuarly bad thing, but why would I go to a cheap knock off of a more popular concept rather than the real thing?

  6. Is it wrong of me to take certain ideas from servers and only use the collective few I see fit for running mine?

  8. @zoid
I'm taking the best features from all across the HL2RP community and having them all combined on my server for a balanced RP experience, I didn't rip off one server by completely stealing their ideas.

  9. You like to take what I say and make it seem like I imply things I don't. I just don't understand why you waste your time trying to expose other people on a forum meant for a game you don't even play anymore.... seems like it'd be a waste of your time, but you know- do what you want.
    Thanks for the criticism though.

i wasn't 'exposing' you for anything, i was pointing out things in your thread so you could fix them, because i've written strikingly shittier threads before and i got grilled for it without anyone actually telling me why they were bad and it sucked so i thought i'd take five minutes to let you know how you could improve. if you seriously think i was being an asshole for pointing blindingly obvious faults out with your thread then you need to get a wet wipe and man the fuck up because no roleplayer will take you seriously as an owner if you can't even respond to criticism in a way that doesn't make you seem like a victim of malice.

sixx - you seem to be the one offended here, shown by the whole 'funny rate, didn't listen to my long post ://' thing. yeahdude pointed out that he took them into account and is working on the thread, something shown by the thread history. (http://puu.sh/vlstz/a2f0976680.jpg)
you gave your advice, and you should've left it at that without stirring things up by attempting to call them out over 'not listening to you'.

as for yeahdude, apologies for the bumpy thread so far, and I hope you take more of Sixx's advice on how to improve your thread. best of luck to your community.

  14. I'd really suggest elaborating when you promise things. I generally want to know what you have in store for a player once they join,
-like what kind of custom contraband do you have?
-What are the things that citizens can do when they are a loyalist?
-Or what can citizens do when they are rebels?
-How is the loyalist system customized?
-How is the custom lore different from the normal lore?
-Also what is a 'UU phantom system'?

A few personally questions of mine:
-How will you manage workblocks? Will it be whenever the CWU feel like it?
-If you have an economy how will it work? Will rebels have to smuggle and barter for their goods or will they buy from situated dealers?
-What combat system do you use? S2K? S2RP? S2M? etc

  15. Aesthetically I prefer base HL2 citizens rather than HL2TS but they are better and don't exactly go against the art style, plus they work well with that clothing plugin. People just hate 'em 'cause they're TnB.

  16. thanks for the input, I'm actually working on updating the post right now. Making it more aesthetically pleasing and more informative.
    And to answer your questions

Workblocks are run by the CWU when given permission by the Higher Command of the MPF.
Combat System is S2K(weapons have decreased accuracy to improve the roleplay)
Rebels will also have to be smuggled goods, as they can not leave district four.

  17. Bumping this post after editing it completely.

  19. I added a few more things than before and removed a few pointless features. Hoping to also make it more aesthetically pleasing. Adding more stuff later on.

Colour scheme is a bit bland, pretty much entirely the same colour the whole way through. You should consider changing some colours to maybe make it a bit easier to read in my opinion.
Also, your images seem to have been cut off slightly on the left side.
