Atomic 'That Lucky Old Sun' - A short-term server.

'That Lucky Old Sun' is a month long Fallout server based in New Vegas, south of Nevada bordering Arizona. The server is heavily lore-based, instead of focusing on items/combat. This takes place after the Second Battle of Hoover Dam, Caesar's Legion ultimately wins and successfully beats the NCR back with heavy losses. The NCR loses their ground and is driven back to California, while the Legion march through New Vegas, claiming it as their own. The Legion enslaves nearly everyone, and destroys several crime families on The Strip. To add insult to injury, Caesar betrays his allies - The Great Khans and eliminates them all, seeing them as a drug-ridden pestilence on this world. The NCR fortify their borders, and along with this so do the Legion. During the chaos, The Brotherhood of Steel rise up from their bunker and confiscate all technology they can find before Caesar's Legion can destroy it. This also plays a prominent role in their rise to a significant power once more. You play as a wastelander in the town of Lakewood, an old town in Nevada that was once prosperous for its abundant resources. Now it's only a shell of what it was. You and fifteen other adventurers one day hear of an expedition company hiring people to settle several towns in the wasteland. The offer seems like a once in a lifetime chance to take. To be known in history as a pioneer who ventured across the dangerous wasteland to settle down in Arizona, and extract resources. Ambition grew in the crowd you were in, people already talking about how they would make history with their own government they'd form. You take the chance to go out into the wilderness, signing your name on a charter that was proudly pinned onto a building where the expedition company resided.

Under official classification, this is an adventure based server. As previously stated, we're heavily lore reliant. We want to tell a story, rather then focus on getting guns and items, although that option will still be there. Several factions will make a cameo in the server, however playing them will most likely not be an option unless the event for that weekend requires roles to be filled. Additionally, we're a 'one-life' server. If you die, you get a PK. S2K also will be in effect. We're aiming for a realistic approach when it comes to survival. The server also utilizes a content pack designed to not take up 3GB of your hard-drive space, however changes to the content may be made to further provide good visuals for the lore.

To get this out of the way, we're a whitelisted server that's private. We get to choose who comes and who doesn't. If you're a whiner, a sore loser, a person with tainted reputation ('le minge', known for drama), or an overall asshole, we won't accept you. We take roleplayers in who are genuinely interested in storytelling, not someone who cares about items/themselves. We also won't accept character transfers or requests for any 'special' characters. Don't ask either, you'll briefly be told a few choice words you won't like. Causing drama and attempting to ruin the experience for others will result in a permanent ban, and several people snickering at you. Don't be that troll. Additionally, we only have five-six slots left before we hit our cap. We want this to be a quality, 15-16 player server. First come, first serve.

Q: So why didn't you release USF?
A: I work on things I enjoy, additionally people constantly begged and demanded for the server. A key phrase to remember is 'we don't owe you anything'. We choose to do things we enjoy, not cater to people.
Q: So will THIS be released?
A: Yes, I enjoy Fallout, more then HL2RP. Fallout has so many angles to explore. Don't pressure me however, I don't give in to player demands for a server release. It's done when it's done.
Q: Why can't I have my super duper awesome ranger character and legate?!
A: Because you'll ruin the lore we've crafted for everyone else to enjoy. I personally dislike special characters as well, and no one can play them properly. Don't join if you're a greedy bastard. We'll only ban you.
Q: Why are you so harsh with your rules?
A: The rules are easy to follow, use your common sense and don't be a dick. I've learned over the years that adminship has caved in to ridiculous players who only care for themselves. We don't care about playerbase, thus such problem is eliminated already for us. We have a strong server already, however we want to include more people that would be interested in an adventure based roleplay. I believe an adminship needs to appear strong in order to ward off undesirables, which probably has already been done.

A: A story-arc has been crafted to last long, but we have several side-quests that players can unlock and explore. We also have a simulation event planned, that will go into when Alaska was invaded by China.

I said it looks okay, but it's not for me due to what they put in the thread.

I'm sorry if it came across to you as bashing, but when someone posts a thread blatantly saying that they don't care about their playerbase, people are bound to question it. I have no issues with the server itself, as I said before, it actually looks okay. But that thing above was the one turn-off that I felt should be addressed in here, either because it could turn people off, or make them pissed. I thought the quote in itself was a good reason as to why I said "nevermind", but, well, it wasn't.

a 15 player server and saying that doesn't sound like a good idea if its just those 15 players.
could be misinterpreted as "we don't give a shit about you and we dont care if you leave" which could turn off a number of people
besides that, the server looks pretty good, and its what i feel alot of survival servers should strive for, you die, you're pked, no exceptions or bullshit new life rule which was a shitty roleplay element that only made dying feel less "whoops i died, gotta ask the admin to respawn me teehee!"
good luck with the server though, hope it inspires other people to make some short/one off servers

 

I think you're still misinterpting. They care but if you're going to be a cunt and ruin it for everyone else then don't cry when you get banned. And that's what's really needed in RP servers. Staff shouldn't have to cater to individuals who're going to be selfish and shit. If people cry their eyes out because they can't have some super duper awesome special character or item, that's sad and you don't belong on the server.

It's tough love, and it's about time someone's made a server that doesn't cater to the needs of one person while fucking over the rest.

By not caring about playerbase I mean I don't care about getting 25-40 people. Servers that have a huge amount of people are most of the time low quality. I think you took that too literally and jumped the gun. All I'm striving for is a nice 15-18ish server that cares about the story.

 

While that may not have been the initial intent of the statement, I do agree that it should have been worded a bit more wisely.

The owner isn't a cunt, and this isn't the first time they've posted something like this, one of their finest examples being the Outpost Lima thread with the exact same dialogue about not caring about playercount. Funny how you bring it up now.

Regardless my favorite Korean server just shut down and me and a few friends have nowhere to go :/

Just some screenshots people took on the server, the event on Friday was very action packed and hilarious. Caesar's Legion got ripped a new ass. Was very tight, each character actually meant something in the event and was needed for the group to function properly!
