    THE ENDLESS NIGHTS

    “Nothing burns like the cold.”
    - George R.R. Martin

    THE STORY

"What is the meaning of death when not brought about by the cold? I have never seen a man die from the heat, but I had to make many... many
sacrifices on those endless nights in the Canadian wilderness. It changed us... it changed us all. I will always refer to myself as two different people -- Jon before and Jon after. I was one of very few fortunate. The walks through blizzards... losing men on each grueling step. Eating our frozen dead... to survive. Nothing could prevent the death by the cold. Nothing is like the cold... nothing. I want to tell you a story----"

    - Jonathan Brooks, survivor of the Baffin Island crash on November 8th, 2000.

Our story is set on the massive Canadian landmass of Baffin Island. Our survivor group is part of a small flight of about forty people heading to London from Chicago. During a massive surprise blizzard over Canada the plane is blown off course, with communications becoming cut completely. The plane is eventually forced to land on Baffin Island, unknown to the passengers with little flight plan knowledge. The front of the plane is smashed to bits, killing the pilot and any form of modern communication, but many of the survivors survive the crash -- not without an array of bruises, cuts and wounds mind you. Some of the supplies survive the wreck, but much of the important fragile items are lost. The survivors manage to spend the first night in an unknown flat part of the Baffin mountains, then gather in the morning to see what they can do to live through many more endless nights.

    THE ISLAND

    BAFFIN ISLAND, NUNAVUT

Our survivors manage to find themselves stuck in the lower part of the Island, near Prince Charles Island. They are far from any town that was around at that time, since the significant settlements are in the low East part of the Island, or in the very North coast. Baffin Island is known for being the largest island in Canada and the fifth largest in the world. It is also known for its forests, weather and mainly its vast mountain and rock formations all over (the best mountains are in the North island). With little boat and plane travel in the area, the survivors will have to fend for themselves on the great island. They may head for a major settlement in the North or East, or try to make due with our fictional mysterious abandoned settlement on the coastal area they land on. They will, regardless, have to live off the land and the little supplies they will have to start with. They may try to build shelters and camps, weaponry and other crude items. Baffin is a great setting overall for this and gives multiple options for our survivors.

    THE SETTLEMENT

One of the main parts of the region is the abandoned settlement lying on the coast. It is an old illegal fishing and smuggling town, not identified on any maps. It was originally established in 1937 and then forgotten in 1958 after the 'Year of Freeze', when everyone in the settlement perished from the unexpected cold. No one knows about the place and it will become a fresh mystery to those who discover it. It is an ironic additional story element that makes the survivors feel like they weren't the first to face these harsh environments. Perhaps the knowledge that others died before them in similar conditions will push them to work harder to survive -- or lower their morale. It all depends.

    THE SECOND YEAR OF FREEZE

The main story element behind why the plane crashed is because of the unexpected arrival of a fictional second 'Year of Freeze' in the year setting, 2000. It is set to last through the whole winter into 2001. It is a fictional phenomenon set in this region of Canada, and was previously referenced to the lost settlement. The main effects of the freeze are massive blizzards, year round frozen coasts, longer dark hours, haze and lack of unfrozen water. Some species waver in the freeze year, creating potential food supply problems. This is one of many obstacles for our survivors.

    PRIVATE ROLEPLAY

This is a private roleplay and therefore all people interested must contact me and fill out a questionnaire. I would prefer ten or more people to do this, which comes along with a confirmed five or six.
Here are a list of basic requirements:
    - You must post a small application on the forums
    borealisgaming.com
    - You must also make a small biography on the same forum.
    - You should be proficient in roleplay
    - You should have good experience with wildlife
    - You should know how to roleplay in a private
    environment
    - You should not become un-serious when doing sessions
    - You should be able to be very dedicated and around to do scheduled sessions
    - Because of time zones, we prefer having most players from the Americas and Europe.
    - You must be able to have a developing character

    INFORMATION

The server is going to be a customized Atomic or HL2:RP framework. It will be pass worded and sessions will be scheduled. Currently we will need a certain amount of dedicated people to begin. We likely only need 5-8, but it would be better to have 10+ in case some people leave. It will be announced when it releases.
Note: I will likely make this into a book as the story progresses and record all the information. Players are free to make their own diaries as it goes along, which I would happily add to the collection.
    Thank you!

Looks good, but seems kinda unfair that us non-americans can't join. Shame I was considering on joining to...

    Anyway, good luck with it.

  8. Probably something to do with timezones and wanting everyone on at the same time, which if it is, is a pretty unrealistic standard.

I'm going to change that standard although it will require the majority of the players involved to plan a time to start. Anyone can join and we are restarting from the beginning since the first launch was infiltrated by some minges.

Thank you! You can still contact me.

    ADDING:
New standard requiring an actual small application for those new, as well as posting a small biography about your character. You cannot enter until you complete that on the forums.
