The [L] infront of the gamemode name

Discussion in 'Discussion' started by Niker107, Oct 8, 2013.

  1. Why does an [L] appear infront of the gamemode/server name of my server? I suppose it means 'Local', but what is it used for, anyway? I don't see a point in saying that the server is local, it just makes players not want to go on the server because of it, even if the server is good. Is there a way to turn this off?

  2. [L] is a listen server, usually meaning you launched it from your GMod's main menu.

  3. Ok, I misunderstood Local and Listen. I meant to say Listen, but that doesn't change it. I don't see the reason to publicly tell everyone which server is Listen. There are some horrible Dedicated servers out there, but I put a lot of effort into my server, even though it's Listen, and people still join the dedicated servers because they think that "Listen servers are always bad". So I don't see the reason for that [L] to be there other than ruin my playerbase.

  4. Because listen servers are usually laggy, terrible, and on sandbox. Get SteamCMD if you want it gone.

  5. Well, ok, I'm doing that right now. But I already made all of the stuff which are on my server while it was Listen, but I don't want to lose any of it. What things exactly would I need to transfer to the SteamCMD from my Garry's Mod to have every criteria of my Listen server on my Dedicated one? I suppose the gamemode itself, the settings folder, anything else?

Also, how will I transfer addons that I use on my Listen server to my Dedicated one?

  6. I can't really help you out, sorry.
