In your opinion, how should the CCA/MPF be handled on a HL2RP server?
    or more simply put..
Any ideas for a better MPF?
Both are broad questions that cover everything the combine offer in the gamemode as a whole- i.e. Rank structure (if any), divisions, all the way down to training, and mindset even...etc. etc.

  2. Honestly, you don't need to have a totally unique MPF structure to have the best MPF squad. You can handle the MPF in a totally generic way and it'll still be fine, as long as you aren't handing out whitelists to ever retard who can do a long /me. Quality control is key.

  3. Personally, every Division should be unique. As in each should have a separate job to do instead of patrolling and arresting. *Cough* *Cough* Lemonpunch...
But like Judge should only be used for specialist operations and interrogations yet on many servers they are pretty much the same as Union leaving them no value.

Also, and this again is my opinion, make each Division have a different suit. This, again is just my opinion since I like uniqueness in RP.
And make sure they RP correctly to their rank. So a 07 won't just automatically feel fine with shooting a guy. But a OfC will "Brush it off."

All I got to say is don't feel like you need to make them feel badass. Let them rp realistically. No matter what brainwashing they receive they are still flesh and can still die.

I don't like divisions. they were made up to appease younger folks with roleplay. why have a division strictly for interrogation? why aren't all officers trained in interrogation tactics? why have a special operations division? that doesn't make any sense since overwatch exists. the only divisions you would ever realistically have is "union" and "helix", a general force and a medical section. "grid" is iffy because you can just add another tag to distinguish a combat engineer(not just some guy who invents shit in a closet all day, that's not their job).

I would use a squad system and have 12-15 people in each squad, moving others into new squads as you see fit( which sort of requires some micro managing). fit each squad with 2/3 medics and a field engineer and have them patrol and work together instead of having redundant divisions.

    uniqueness =\= quality

  5. Yeah I guess I can agree with you on that.

  6. Aphelion was under a similar system, and maybe itsjust bias but I think it worked flawlessly. The only downside to the mpf on aphelion was that retarded spergs got accepted, and me as an sql had to deal with a ton of ic drama.

willy pete i'm going to cut off your face and wear it

dispatch is supposed to be the ultimate commanding entity

having sec and ofc and dvl and all that other cringy shit kinda defeats the purpose

also why can't units just have general training in all fields instead of having specialized divisions oh my god

  8. A singular division which allows specializations in Medical and Engineering has always sounded like a good idea to me.

  10. I'm under the extremely unpopular opinion that Overwatch should manage anything that is high priority, and should be an extremely well-developed area of roleplay.
The MPF needs to have a large advantage over the civvie + rebel population, but it must be stressed very, very hard that it should avoid becoming a circlejerk at all costs.
Ranks are nice, but can be overdone, and lead to a lot of drama. Tags over divisions any day.
A small amount of OOC management is required, but other than that, let IC stay IC. A unit is being crap? Let him be deserviced rather than be given 50 OOC warnings.
I personally like SeC and CmD because it means that when one's offline, the other is available. Ranks are sometimes necessary to retain order - the biggest issue with dispatch-is-authority servers I've seen is the fact that anyone was allowed to use Dispatch if they had the ability. With SeC and CmD, you restrict the stupidity of the MPF as a whole, and make it more adaptable. Plus, it adds a lot of incentive - people play more because they want to rank up.

  11. Overwatch as ultimate command, probably with some appointed leaders (not really above others, just a backup commander in some situations) to support it. Though IMO a lot of players would be portraying the Overwatch instead of just one, via scanners maybe. Fuck permanent squads (not very flexible depending on timezones and availability), and divisions (CPs don't need to know how to work Combine technology to do their job), and ranks (seems more of an obstacle than an advantage, can lead to petty shit). Training is a little redundant in RP and a waste of time that could be used by the character to learn from experience and actually interacting with people instead of a shooting target, and the CPs don't need any of that specialized training shit.

I often don't like that the CPs are portrayed as this elite military unit with ranks, promotions, procedures, formations, etc. instead of the loose band of thugs they actually are. Probably at one point early in the occupation they'd be more professional, but I wouldn't see them caring near the end of it. Instead of ranks, use some kind of reward system as progress.

A good MPF system is one that is unique to the server and that promotes personality amongst the units. Having MPF that seemingly only have the ability to use the "Haha" voice command isn't grounds for good roleplay in the least. MPF with personality however interact with civilians in a way that creates a unique and interesting way for both parties. It's a shame that little to no servers use this kind of system even though the ones that do thrive pretty well.

Though the problem with it is they get TOO MUCH personality and begin erping with eachother. So just watch out for that if you decide to use this.

  13. If I were you I'd remove the sound portion of the voice commands. It'll still correct and display the vc but without the retarded sound.

  14. I always thought the voice commands had a charm to it. But I can see how it can be abused with mass "Ha ha" all the time.
