Thinking about getting into mapping, Ideas?

Mr.Joe Don't look at me like that, it's creepy!

I've been thinking about starting a mapping project and sticking to it for a long time. I've been wanting to make a RP map, mostly for Half life 2 RP. A map with an amazing atmosphere, that will hopefully help to bring back that feeling of when CPs say "Citizen" Behind your back and your just like "OH Shit". Anyways, I want ideas from you guys. What have you always wanted to see in a RP map? I'm posting this because I want ideas to motivate me. I love hearing people's thoughts and ideas. Whenever I start the map, I'll post a topic about it in this board and post screenshots of it. Feel free to give thoughts and ideas please!

Have you started mapping at all?

If not, maybe jumping into such a large project isn't a good idea.

I've mapped before. I have a good view of triggers and what not. I've made maps for No more room in hell, but never actually published them, but they looked nice. (Kinda atleast)
And I'm gonna start small, and see what I'm going to make of it.

  4. Don't start with roleplaying maps.

    Make a sourcemod.

    Finish it, or not.

    Then start roleplay maps.

Learning to map properly takes years, or if you're intelligent, and/or a fast learner, months.

If you don't, your map will end up like this: http://steamcommunity.com/sharedfiles/filedetails/?id=230732446

I started mapping by ripping apart hundreds of .bsps and .vmfs, that, and I read every single godamn valve developer wiki page for level design. Multiple times.

    Read all of this: https://developer.valvesoftware.com/wiki/Category:Level_design

    Watch these: https://developer.valvesoftware.com/wiki/Level_Design_Video_Tutorials

    Read all of these: http://www.interlopers.net/tutorials/getting-started

There was a valve developer page for step by step learning Source SDK, but I can't find the link.

Also, if you "don't want to read because it's too much", then mapping is too much for you.

I had a friend who sucked balls and mapping, and I forced him to do all of that, and now he's a pretty damn good mapper.

    You know who you are.

    Anyways.

    Yeah.

    Good luck.
