Canon (Story)
Year 2023
The combine have full control of the earth and are nearing the end of their use for it. Across the cities lights are beginning to go out due to lack of power. Food is getting scarce, yet someone always find some more; whether it's fruit, or noodles, or headcrab meat. Less combine are seen patrolling the streets, but what combine are seen give harsher punishment than before. Some say it is done to "ensure the security of the Union". Others say "They do it because they're bored."
You are but a citizen within City 8, a prosperous combine city, now almost overpopulated and resource bare. You just left the train after being "shipped" from another city, and you hear the current administrator's words from the Projection Screens.
"Welcome, dear citizens, to City 8. And those of you who lived here before, welcome back."
The administrator gives his normal welcome speech, a possible recording. Then an actual broadcast comes on the screen. The boardcast reminds you strangely of one made back in City 18.
(Broadcast is in the spoiler)
Spoiler
Citizens of City Eight.
Today we shall stop time to remember the dead
We do it in Union.
Together we lost the inalienable.
Lives
We lost civilian, Vortigaunt and whatever you're calling them lives.
Together we prevailed over hatred
Together we embrace openness, tolerance, and the fellowship of this union.
I've cried with you who were forced to say a last farewell by the grave.
I truly feel with for you who do not get rid of the pictures, sounds and smells from that very black Thursday.
I've thanked those of you who saved lives that day.
Thanks to you who ease the pain.
Every light has warmed.
Every thought has comforted.
Every prayer has given hope.
We're a small town.
But we?re City Eighteen.
The City where the people are big.
Together we've asked a lot of questions.
Together we pray for honest answers.
Not to give anyone but the perpetrator's fault.
But to know
In order to learn.
In order to progress.
In respect of those who were swept away, we will focus our sights forward.
It also means to separate ourselves.
In our daily lives the differences and disagreements wait.
Diversity.
That we welcome.
We have three tasks on our agenda.
The first:
We are to help those who suffer.
The sorrows of families, and friends have tests us others only can imagine.
Yet you can help.
Let them know that you care. Invite them over for coffee. Take a walk together.
A greater gift than kindness does not exist.
The second is to have your senses open to all signs of Anti-citizen behavior.
We must learn from the young.
We will meet hatred with arguments.
We will invite home those who have gone astray
Those who resort to violence, we fight.
With all the weapons of the Union we will meet them.
EVERYWHERE WE SHALL MEET THEM.
Our third mission is to create confidence.
The Union being prepared creates confidence.
Visible CPU creates confidence.
Regular controls, drills, and equipment creates confidence.
All this we shall have.
Yet we need something even greater, and far more important.
We need you.
No matter where you live.
No matter which god you worship.
No matter what color of your skin.
Each one of us can take responsibility.
Each one of us can guard our beloved Union!
Together we associate an unbreakable chain of care, trust, and safety.
That is our protection against violence.
Trust in the Union, and the Union will trust in you. Long survive City Eight.
From here on this is now your story. Live the city life how you like. Help the combine, or impede them. Perhaps you just want to live under their safety for the rest of your life.
Rules
[list type=decimal]
[*]Please try to roleplay seriously. You are not Chuck Norris, or Gordon Freeman, or Max Payne. (Yeah. I went there.)
[*]Act within human boundaries. You can't jump down a building, you can't fly across the sky, you can't make things float in mid-air, etc etc. This also means you can't hear someone's /me through a wall and run up to them. (One, that's metagaming. Two, you don't see through walls.)
[*]Powergaming is very very bad. You can't force someone to do something without a roll. Don't just run up to people "Do this or I'm going to kill you", then when they refuse, kill them.
[*]FearRP is essential at times. If you're being held at gunpoint, you're not going to just slap the gun away and tell them no, then walk away. Doing so is just plain stupid and there will be a rustling of the jimmies. (Quotes to Duck)
[*]You can apply for MPF at any time on the site, but only certain times in game. Don't run around in the plaza spamming OOC "When are the MPF application!?" because asking that will just delay them.
[*]Respect all our admins please. The only time you don't have to is never.
