Tips on Being a Passive Citizen Roleplayer

Discussion in 'Discussion' started by Sheeplie, Jul 31, 2014.

    Sheeplie Hi.

Sometimes, the idea of roleplaying as a citizen can seem dull and boring. Server owners tend to let it be the faction that soaks up the minges and bad roleplayers. As long as they don't get any other whitelists, right? Wrong. Citizens are the main aspect of Half-Life 2 City Life, and should be treated that way. Here are a few tips that all citizens should follow. Server owners? Feel free to redistribute this guide if you'd like.

    1. Find Others
This is the number one rule because it's vital to roleplay. Nobody likes to roleplay alone! Try finding a few other citizens, and passively roleplay with them. Maybe take a walk, explore the city, or go check out their apartment. Better yet, show them yours! It's best if you take your time and use detailed actions in your roleplay.

Note: If you can't find others, try passively roleplaying alone. It can be very interesting sometimes and progress character development.

    2. React Properly
Show personality in your character. If a combine portal opens in the sky and bombs are raining down from it? Don't just stand there and stare at it like nothings happening. Give it some action! Roleplay running, screaming, any kind of reaction that you can conjure up. It'll definitely make things more enjoyable for others, and help progress your character.

    3. Get assigned an apartment.
Having a residence is an essential part of the citizen experience. For even better results? Don't just f2 on a door, no no. Kindly ask an officer to assign you an apartment. Be sure to use proper fear roleplay, as that's where the next tip comes in.

    4. Fear Roleplay
Regardless of how tough your character is, nobody is crazy enough to walk up to a Metroplex unit and say, "hey". A better way to speak to them would be mixed with actions, here's an example.

Jackson Clay eyes the Metropolice officer as he walks up, shaking slightly.

C17.MCA.UNION:i4-294 looks sharply at the man, speaking through his vo-coder, "Hm?"

Jackson Clay looks at the strong unit, avoiding contact with his terrifying blue optical lenses as he stutters in his speech, "E-ex.. excuse me, officer. I would l-like to be assigned an apartment.."

C17.MCA.UNION:i4-294 double takes his post one last time before turning back to the citizen, speaking. "Alright, come with me."

    5. Don't always be a rebel.
There's plenty of fun to have in being simply a normal citizen character,
or even a lone wolf who explores the city. Citizens can group together, you don't need to be a rebel to do that. If you do decide to carry hatred for the Union, be sure to consider your character's fear of the possible consequences.

So there you have it, five vital tips to living your new life here in city seventeen. Get out there and give it your all. Good luck, be sure to ask others if you have any questions!

Note: Let me know if there's anything I need to add, change, or update.

Sheepile. You know. Passive can sometime mean just finding ways to roleplay with yourself.
It isn't specifically with others. Helll, some of my longest Roleplays have been solo. Helps you grow at that to.

May wanna throw that in. Sometimes it's needed. Just my thoughts.

CitizenRP is almost entirely a hoax.

I could go on for hours, but I'll leave it at this: There's a reason that most admins primarily play on their Resistance/Civil Protection/Universal Union characters.

  6. This is pretty good!

Passive isn't something citizens should have to do /all/ the time, especially in a shitty map like C18. Developers and server owners should be able to create events and write scripts that make gameplay interesting, instead of having everyone to pretend to do everything.

"Hey, why do citizens sit around in the spawn and talk to strangers while admins get to have novel-worthy experiences and do exciting things?"

"ROLEPLAY ISNT ABOUT GUNS YOU IDIOT!!!!"
