HL2RP Variance Gaming - Combine Military Roleplay

Discussion in 'Communities' started by FPSPrussia, Jul 11, 2015.

Welcome to a project made to reorganize the love-hate relationship we all have with Half Life 2 Roleplay. This is Combine Military Roleplay like it should be. This project will serve as a great way to see if we can finally set aside most of the bad aspects of a lot of Half Life 2 Roleplay Servers. We are a community, not a company. We all work together to make things better for one another. Whether it'd be taking policies that are radical at face value but really work on a commutative level or to allowing the players to form more then the staff could ever know. We work things out. One thing you should know before you join is that it will be the END of your Drama days. If you wanna act dramatic or wanna suck up to staff and try to get power. You will be caught, eventually. We do not tolerate this madness and hope we can prevent most of it, unfortunately like most things it still will happen.

Our server takes you to a recognizable world where the Combine Empire has finally taken over the world. This has left the world to a state of chaos and war. Who fights wars? The Military, so the new structure of government on Earth led by Dr. Breen has made a new initiative with a human Military, rather then what we've seen with the Overwatch Transhuman Arms program. This project is to take aspects of what made Earth's military great and use that to create a general sense of well being to our benefactors. That we are trying to become ready for assimilation to become another soldier species.

    [Denizen Lore]
Denizens in our roleplay are just a mediator between choosing sides. Except the catch is that if they choose to be pro-UU they can never really go back to a city. They would probably be amputated for escaping such said place. Yet you could remain neutral as well or turn to the path of destruction with the resistance. This life is yours and no one else can make your choices. If you are lucky enough it is possible to transfer over to the conscripts or be lucky enough to join the resistance. It depends on what you want to do.

You have recently escaped one of the countless number of death hole cities and managed to come to the coast. It isn't much better figuring you just fought through Metropolice, Headcrabs, Zombies, Antlions, and other creatures to get here. Yet for now, It is home. Cozy residents that have acclimated have set up an economy more based on trade then a currency. They are willing to assist new people and to help them find their calling. Yet their patience can halt at any moment because no matter how much of a community builds values, so do the merchants looking to make a cheap buck. Sightings of weird soldiers makes you worried whether or not the Combine has caught up with you, yet when they pass you by. You feel ought right curious. This is where your adventure begins.

    [Conscript Lore]

Conscripts are the military power. They carry western weapons and western gear, the best of the time before the seven hour war. While there are no augments you and your forces could invade any city and take out a 8'9 OTA soldier just by not being controlled by external forces. Yet some have flaws and you are now a community, a community of soldiers banded together with the blood of brotherhood.

Like soldiers before you, you have been located in a shitty area that has nothing to do with where you are from. Mosquitoes bite your skin and you are probably worrying what the hell you just shot. The leeches bite when you enter the water, yet you survive. Whether you like the Combine or not, you signed up or were signed up in a secret draft and now you are here. At least you don't have to hear that annoying Combine Administrator who ran your city anymore.

Looking more in depth at your comrades, you see this fuzzy boundary. Some of your comrades are so Pro-Universal Union that they just beg for a reason to shoot some random citizen refugee. These people are usually looking for power. Which doesn't run right in any military, even a Universal Union backed one. Some on the other hand take a friendly position to where they are., people are people no matter where you go. For some reason, it seems English has always been the modern dominate language and that seems to connect them to the Denizens. In fact it appears some can go far enough to be corrupt, yet that usually stops after someone gets taken away and shot for handing firearms to civilians. That is something not even the commanders can find a reason to try and keep a soldier for. It happens every war and it appears that there will always be that one guy who ruins the party.

    [Resistance Lore]
You like many others volunteered for a fight that could end your life against the regime of the Combine. You do not believe the tales of unity and have evidence to prove it is otherwise. So you resist any and all people for the most part. The Coast is like a second home for you and now these conscript assholes are invading. It is your job to take the fight to them once again.

    Side Note:
We aren't here to say critically what lore is or what it isn't. It is really what you make of it. I personally took the liberty to go and look at how real soldiers acted by watching a few documentaries and a few theatrical films. They aren't the Police like some Combine Military Roleplays would have you believe, they are just Soldiers fighting what really is an endless war, unlike those other endless wars that ended.

Conscripts|Combine Military Forces|Universal Union Military Forces
    [IMG]
These are the forces controlling and occupying the lands. These are the so called 'MpF' although they have no ties to the Police. Yet everyone will probably shoot them anyway unless they lack a weapon. They are here on a mission 'To remove the resistance and their operations in the local area'
"We Came, We Conquered, Except there was nothing here"
This is the point you begin. You are a grunt, a maggot, a jarhead if the Marines ever come back and you decide to join them. Your jobs are usually the easiest and least likely to be fucked up so thats why you are usually not trusted with anything more then an M14 and a USP Match. If anything you're gonna be the deserters. If you get trusted enough you could actually be assigned with a better weapon and hopefully a better rank soon enough. With better rank the privileges sore. Don't get too cocky because that means you are always one step closer to really fucking up. You will be the first in line at the firing line when the enemy comes knocking. You get the most respect as most officers are not combat officers which gives you the common law practice of snickering behind their backs.

    Divisions of the Conscript Infantry
Infantry: Welp... you started here. YET if you make it your career you get the fun jobs and the fun weapons. You get to drive the basic vehicles parked around the base. You get to actually be outside of the base without your squad while everyone else needs a specific reason to go outside that has to be radioed and confirmed by a high rank. Which
    isn't always available.

Snipers Team: Sniper teams are made of just two people. A sniper and spotter. The Sniper gets to fire the gun, and well the spotter gets to hold binoculars. This is only a position you want if you are gonna tag with a friend for a long time while you are waiting some contacts. (I am guessing these will be the ERP teams...)

Combat Medic: You have the uncanny job of learning about medicine. (NOT BIOGEL YOU PRIVILEGED WHITE 7'9 SECTORIALS) You get to roleplay all the cuts and gore that happens when healing someone who just got shot with an assault rifle when they decide it'd be a fun joke to test out their new harness which probably didn't have Kevlar to begin with. You will be mostly taking care of people that actually will probably need surgery at a proper facility. Your job is to make sure they live until that moment.

M*A*S*H*: Mobile Army Surgical Hospital, although it doesn't seem like you are gonna move around much. Like the Combat Medic except you have the uncanny job of learning about surgery. Once again all the cuts and gore but you get to have the pleasure of never seeing combat and being the best jokers. Yet you don't get the highest advance tech. You are in an ex-developing nation's area, where electricity doesn't flow like the cities. You get blood bags, cool anesthetics for your anesthesiologists/nurse anesthetists, and scalpels galore. You are the doctors of the old society or the new ones of a crippling world. You have the duty to give basic medical attention to any soldier as well. Of course not in emergency surgical care.

Hazmat: You have the awesome field of danger. When our benefactors graciously misdirect a headcrab canister filled with actual nitroglycerin. You get the awesome job to defuse that bomb. You also have the awesome job of testing the leech filled water for whatever reason you have. Radiation is implied so the benefit is you get a sick suit of gear that makes you look like a boss. Yet it is hot as fuck inside. You could be a possible assistant or become a real UU scientist like monitoring the changes in the environment.

NCOs and Junior NCOs: You have taken the opportunity to receive leadership training. You probably asked for it because you were the top tier loyalists. So the responsibility to take these drags and make them soldiers is yours. You don't have to be drill sarge dick but you still have to show some power. You have to know regulations like a priest with his bible. Every character hates you but these are your soldiers. You have to keep them safe. Some denizen may appear nice but then shoot us later.

That movie: Generation Kill is a really good example of what needs to go on.

Military Police: You are the only thing close to a metropolice force here. You arrest soldiers who conduct violations. You also do anything with actually arresting civilians. Which is rare, this would mostly be if one of those UU nuts. You mostly keep order though because most situations don't require a formal arrest. This is the military and some standards like fist fighting are usually neglected as full punishments unless someone really knocks someones boots off.

Administration: No Army can run without a bureaucrat in charge, and yet because we aren't in a war of full blown tactics. This is where we see the always made fun of 'Desk Officers' who sit and have no security risks. Yet without them an army could never run. Most of your really high folks are in this branch because the resistance is an insurgency that pops ups and doesn't try to do some sorta predictable war plan. Since most insurgencies are run and gun terrorist groups.

Technicians: From Vehicles to computers. You guys are the troubleshooters. Without you most of the technology would fail. Even the fact that you don't understand most of it doesn't make an excuse of why you can't fix it. So try anyway because without you my Combine OS computer freezes and I sure as hell can not read this Combine language manual to fix it.

Side note: We make roles as we need them. Nothing is set in stone so many of these could be taken away as complaints come in or as new suggestions are made.

    Denizen|Citizen|Refugee
    [IMG]
Now that the pussy ass military is done. We get to talk about the PEOPLE! You are the people who will be creating a massive community. You do what you want with more freedoms but you are illegal refugees. Expect fear of everyone around you. You are the most dedicated of roleplayers. You have the job to create passive roleplay. You of course can earn money/loot by doing PassiveRP jobs/scavanging, but you have to tend to stay away from doing anything too serious. You get to see and glamour in the days when insurgents fight or maybe you cry inside because now the friendly green army men don't trust you. You will probably pick a side quite quickly, but I hope not. You should stay a denizen, it'll be a blast!

    Resistance|Insurgency|Lambda|"MaybeAllahuAkbar?"

You are mostly people who want to destroy the entire system and go back to the way the out lands and coasts used to be like. You hate soldiers and these symbols of how the UU can be a little bit good. You thrive on the propaganda of when they do bad. You recruit in masses and use the same Kalashnikov guns that other revolutionaries used. Whether you just want non-UU leadership to Anarchists to those who want to restore that old 'Soviet Union'. Your ideas are the greatest ideas your mind thinks. So FIGHT the power and continue to survive.

Right now we are using rp_coast_03_v5. The map isn't perfect by any means but it does give a good sense of what we want. The military base is off to the far right away from the Denizens while a resistance will have to be more underground using some creative areas hidden away as bases or by constructing their own.

    Welcome to Variance Gaming
We are a community hosted on the founding principles of debate. Things go through in and out through the fighting of voices of concerned players. We found our principles by looking at what other communities have done wrong within the past. We find ourselves trying to not be stuck in the past. We sometimes fail, but that is where you! Yes, You! The player base can totally help us on board. Everyone on this community is like a mini-idea or developer machine. When we pitch our ideas all together and make things happen the community machine begins to spur to limits of the unknown!

We currently have a lack of staff. Yet rather then looking for people that can 'Minge Filter' because anyone can do that. We are looking for people that know how to do events by heart and can discuss ways to pull it off. If you want to become a staff member to abuse it, DarkRP is a good place to go so that is why any bullshit generic logic 'I want to help the community' is unacceptable. Time doesn't make you staff either. You could have played 100 hours on our community yet you just sat there and asked for staff every sixth hour of that time. Quality Staff over Quantity because minge filtration can be easily sorted.

If you join our server you will be able to download the package immediately when you start walking towards the highway. I like for players to be able to read signs before they play so here is a couple already put up
    [IMG]
I'd like to also point out a personal policy of mine when it comes to roleplay.
We really hate people that play just to kill others as well. Its not fun to have people killed because mr. asshole felt like roleplaying a RDM like thing is fun. Yet because of standards it is really hard to detect this type of behavior before it is too late. So we need your help to moderate it. See someone doing a lot of things where they receive benefits like guns and the first thing they do is try to kill someone else? That is a flag a staff needs to know about. Remember you do not need items to roleplay, weapons in such said roleplay are a privilege not a right.

I realize many of you might have some bland questions. I might as well already post the answers for them. So here we go!

Q: I thought you left Cloudsixteen... permanently... faggot. (Does it break the rules if I shitpost myself?)
A: I was a cocky motherfucker. Yet now I have gotten more comfy and complaint.

Q: Will I be banned from weapons unless I play some sort of role?
A: Nope. You can have weapons at any role and at any position

Q: When is this expected to be released.
A: IT IS UP MY FRIEND! IP: 76.164.218.132:27035

    Q: S2K or S2M?
A: S2K for minges and runners. S2M for real roleplaying.

Q: So what does it take to become a Conscript? and a Conscript NCO/Leader
A: You have to show your Conscript abilities by roleplaying as a denizen with nothing. Should you go try to loot or actually social RP? Tough decisions for anyone. To become a leader you have to show you can be the man in the high castle. Those types of roles are probably the most wanted yet we can only have acouple people play them at one time.
Q: Do you have a forum?
    A: http://variancegaming.site.nfoservers.com/forum/index.php

Q: How much have you completed the developing process?
A: It will always be in development. I don't think roleplays can ever get quite perfect. Always a problem to be have and hopefully a solution not far from the rear.

Q: Do you have any advice towards CityRP servers?
A: I have a megalist of suggestions if you need it.
    https://docs.google.com/document/d/1yw7JkTqZ3GJRLk7ralKSTcF6pLBcJD1TcrArPPwWmKc/edit

Q: @Outcasted still asks 'WHO THE FUCK ARE YOU?!'
A: :( I am simply a man with a dream to create a better role playing experience in the form of Military Roleplay. I realize I have no maybe a bad background now on Cloudsixteen. But I do hope to make friends rekindle haters of course. :D

Q: Did you copy from that old thread you had... what was it... French Occupation Roleplay?
A: YUP! Proud of it then... still am now. I would get that thing working if some brand new WW2 sweps came out that worked well with CW.

    ASK MORE QUESTIONS PLEASE.
    THANKS FOR READING, FPSPRUSSIA.
Edit: So tired... just finished this thread and it is 4:55 AM in Chicago.

Pretty good looking thread, but there are a few typos. I can list them if you'd like. Glad to see someone trying hard to get more CMRP, too.

    Pro-tip:

Swap your map from Coast ASAP. The fact that the map is a circle for a CMRP server is going to fuck over your player base. Just ask @EmperorJericho and anyone who has played on SCG's CMRP.

Also thank you for having engineers and combat medics over GRID and HELIX.

  8. The forum link has been updated. The new link is now:

However, sometimes the domain fucks up every now and then. If the domain is seen messed up, try navigating through the NFO link.

I would recommend getting off Coast as soon as possible, it's just a giant circle to be honest and gets dried out really quick just ask anyone that has played SCG's CMRP. That map got annoying real quick. Thank god you have engineers and combat medics over GRID and HELIX, it makes a lot more sense.

  10. If you have a better map, hand it over. I dread trying to find a map that suits everyone. Yet if I can find one that has a military base that can fit everything we put in ours. It will be a top contender. Yet one of the appealing things about coast is that we can expand with props. I had plans with previous communities to make a 'Dock City' for older players who know what they are doing. Yet I am not closed-minded to a map. Post some of your suggested maps like the scenarios I mentioned earlier.

    There are multiple.

Really just anything beside coast and large enough to have faction areas.

  12. You gotta give me names. Because I looked at Stalker. I looked at Dust and her V2. I looked at Ineu Valley with her versions.
I mean it is quite cringe worthy if someone gave you the message "GET BETTER MODELS" and didn't give you some new models to look at... right? I mean I feel your pain that you don't like it, but I can't help you if you don't have the effort to at least list a map.

Not to sound overly critical but the opening canon makes no sense

"The Combine Empire has now taken over the world. This has left the world in a state of chaos and war."

so because the interdimensional transuniversal alien empire has now completely conquered the world, that puts the world in a state of chaos and war? Shouldn't it be "The Combine left the world, leaving it in a state of chaos and war"?
