General History/Information:​

Variance Gaming started when I wanted to start up another community, after having a numerous amount of other failed ones. I wanted to make a difference, however, on how I successfully delivered everything, making sure the day-by-day tasks and objectives were completed by the end of that day. When I planned everything up, that was when Variance Gaming bursted into life, providing another destination in Garry's Mod servers where people are free to roleplay however they want, though, obviously with some restrictions. So, this is my second chance in an attempt to make a forum post

Lore of the Server:​

Estimated year and month of: January or February 2010:​

Portal storms began ripping the skies above the humans, as foreign creatures began to manage to crawl out, killing out any humans that happened to be near these storms. After a small silence, it was not over. At this current point of time, everything had seemed to escalate into a full scaled war between the alien race of the Combine, and the desperate and losing forces of the combined military firepowers. Seven hours later, this war predominantly becoming known as the "Seven Hour War," the military surrendered, under certain order of a man who negotiated to the Combine, otherwise known later as Wallace Breen, head administrator.

A few month's passing after the SHW:​

The Metropolice Force was established for any male and female who wanted to help along with the Union. These men and women were assigned different tasks and objectives that they would need to complete by the end of their day. Failure to do so would often call in brutal punishments and beatings. This was the start of when cities began developing into small, destroyed areas, into taller, more metropolitan destinations.

Entire year of 2016:​

The Metropolice Force began shrinking into smaller forces, thinning out any humans who wished to join the Union. This caused an increase of OTA populations, as rebellions began to slowly rise and become the dominant activity in any of the other cities. The Universal Union advisors knew from then on they would need a more proficient task at hand to keep these cities handled securely, yet in the same time showing a strong sense of competence and intimidation.

Early 2017:​

Entire outbreaks began occurring in cities, often containing gunfights that would consist of the MPF and multiple rebellion groups repeatedly firing at each other. These gunfights often caused causalities on not only both sides, but also the neutral side, such as the regular citizens.

Late 2017:​

The Metropolice Force was completely disbanded because of their incompetence and disability to keep the city secure, as informed by the high ranking officials in the agenda of the Universal Union. However, in replacement of the MPF, a similar force, called the Union Civil Protection, was finally established, which made a huge turning point in how things were handled.

2020, Current Year:​

The Union Civil Protection continues to stand strong and competent, and are always ready for the tasks at hand, at any costs given to them. The Union Civil Protection works different in the Metropolice Force, in a way such as immediate brainwashing (though this is NOT very strong, it is merely mild. Do keep in mind that brainwashing DOES NOT in anyway REMOVE FEELINGS0) after enlistment. There are also other precautions that must be taken when citizens wish to pursue such occupations.

Factions:​

This is, evidently, the default faction of the server. Citizens can commonly be used for very diverse reasons of roleplaying, which can range from being a loyal person to the Universal Union, to having your citizenship completely revoked, naming you an anti-citizen. As long as you properly are developing your character, and is not INSANELY silly or idiotic, then everything will be fine and smooth flowing for your future experiences.

The Civil Worker's Union is the citizen's casual way of getting to the good side of the Universal Union. The CWU manufactures the goods they will eventually sell, and also provide for medical assistance for citizens that are injured. They are the backbone of the loyalist population of cities.

The Union Civil Protection was the force that replaced the Metropolice Force during the late year of 2017. The UCP established mainly to make sure that everything was pacified correctly, and to make sure the city borders were tight and secure before going back to their regular ongoing duties they may face and have to deliver. The UCP operates differently from the MPF in a way that brainwashing is immediately given to any recruit (this does not remove emotions. No brainwashing in the server removes emotions. We want to refrain from having hardass units). Additionally, in some occasions, citizens may be forced to enlist without their knowing of will. UCP ranks go as follows:

• Recruit (RCT) - A recruit is a new member of the UCP. This man or woman has successfully completed the entire enlistment process, the mild brainwashing included with the system. From this point on, the recruit must learn basic knowledge and tips from his own peers, and even superiors. When ready, they may approach a unit with a Proficiency Level of two or three.
• Proficiency Level 1 (PL01) - After completion of the training process, this recruit now has basic proficiency skills in his own labor and tasks. He may now perform basic duties that were taught to him. This is where your duty as a unit of the UCP begins.
• Proficiency Level 2 (PL02) - These units have proved to be far better than learning basic knowledge and skills. They can apply more difficult sets of combinations in their own objectives, and can make sure they get them done immediately.
• Proficiency Level 3 (PL03) - These units are continuing to grow exponentially higher with their knowledge skills. At this point of your career, this may be the last rank you receive, unless you deem yourself to be much better than a caliber such as this.
• Proficiency Level 4 (PL04) - Units with such a proficiency level have proved that they are much better than the average unit. Each unit with this proficiency level and up have shown they have unique characteristics that are proactive when doing assigned tasks.
• Proficiency Level 5 (PL05) - Units with this proficiency level are often like the previous rank, however, have shown they are capable of managing themselves, and a couple of other units, if possible at any time. This is the last achievable rank by any unit whatsoever, and any higher will be restricted to other unknown units, classified to all of the city.
• Evaluation Officer (EOfC) - Evaluation Officers come from time to time in order to evaluate, assess, and make sure that all units are capable of doing their duties. The Evaluation Officer is also in charge of putting up different ceremonies and celebrations to congratulate other units for their hard-earned time at their job of the UCP. Though, they must have done something very much important to be directly acknowledged by the Evaluation Officer. Evaluation Officers are the only units that are above the PL05 rank, and are not classified to all of the city.
• Note - The only rank that is permitted to command every single person in the UCP is the Evaluation Officer. Other units, such as PL04 or PL05, are restricted to commanding to their own teams. However, these units are not permitted to command their teams unless they are allowed directly by dispatch itself. These ranks are not directly just ranks, but point out how these units perform in their tasks, which will make categorization for more difficult issues easier at hand.

Vortigaunts are a special species and aliens that are scattered around the surface of Earth. Though they are often found completing and delivering tasks with the rebellion out towards the outlands, they can also be found inland toward the cities. Sometimes, vortigaunts may have been enslaved by the Combine in order to do their deeds, such as cleaning up the Nexus, or other objectives. Under escape of a vortigaunt, and the unchaining, they are able to use their vort essence. May I remind you, however, we refrain from making hundreds of users vortigaunts.

You will barely ever see any administrators on. The only case of administrators wishing to show their faces, is when they are required to broadcast a speech, or something of any sort. They may, in rare times, allow interviews for other citizens, but these cases are only up for the higher end loyalists of the city, and even then, higher end loyalists may never meet up to this accomplishment.



- Please note that this server is still in somewhat of an experiment form. Though we have not completely sorted everything out, we are going to experiment with some things and see how they will turn out. Good means stay, bad means throw away is all that it means. Additionally, the forum we are using is currently temporary. I, personally, will not tell you I will TRY to get a real website, but instead I will say that I WILL get a website with a domain in the next few weeks. Also, I will add on to this thread gradually as we get to concluding more information.

 

You could have just said that you used the basic HL2 canon instead of writing out a novel.

Either way, it sounds good.

 

Sounds interesting, but I'd work on tensing and general grammar throughout your post, its a little difficult to read.

 

Please, for the love of god please. Just make the format nicer, add some correct sizing images, make the text in to a none "In your face" format.

 

I've spiffed up some parts of this forum, including adding in some of the images that are now included. Don't hesitate to add any suggestions, as this is a server for all players of a community, so I'd rather like that we cooperate, instead of continuously argue. Anyway, thanks again for the previous suggestions!

I'll also make sure that I add in more information as the time goes on.

I can admit to that.
I really do suck at editing images and things like that, so I can't really expect much into making exquisite images and such, apologies if you do not like the current images I have. The best I can do is that if you have any more problem, I'll find a loophole into fixing that issue.
