Vector art

    Tydosius I am deeply sorry.

    How do we do it?

  2. Oh shit sorry I didn't see this had gotten a reply at all.

I personally use and recommend Inkscape. It's made for vector art specifically and nothing else, it's a great tool. There's other options such as Adobe illustrator, but that's cash/piracy, so Inkscape's probably the easier choice in the end.

The big picture of vectoring is basically getting reference pictures and redoing them with vector graphics, this means tracing lines (with as few nodes/points as possible) and filling in colors. The result is that you get a perfect quality picture you can scale up/down as much as you like without quality loss, you can also make an export of the picture at any size.

There's probably some Inkscape tutorials lying out and about somewhere, though weirdly enough I haven't seen a bigger resource pool than this MLP vectoring subreddit. Check the sidebar, even though it's all filled with pastel ponies, the tutorials are very good and helpful, there's tons of great tips to pick up on there as well.

I'll add this to the OP as well.

You seem pretty good at Vector art. Perhaps you could do commissions?

  4. Maybe. I don't actually have a lot of experience (4-5 vectors done), but I can do cartoony stuff, etc.

Oh god Atebite you showed me that picture earlier, you really uploaded it? My god.

  6. No it's not that picture. The one here is a picture of my (now old) avatar.

Oh, well, fair note, should probably do some resizing since it's massive on my one screen.

  8. That's the point, it's 4K. Width-wise it wouldn't even fit across my 2 1920x1080 monitors.

It's now my background image because it's so big. Thank you.
