HL2RP What do you look for in a HL2RP server?

Maybe taking a shit is too far, but I entirely agree with what you're saying.

 

I don't think it's dead, just really slow.

Let me explain a bit, maybe that'll clear the whole situation up for you.

The admin in this experience (won't say his name for obv reasons) is either AFK or sitting away with his internet girlfriends erping far away from the main populus, nice admin we have here. There's been numerous times where someone comes in and, makes the experience absolute shit but he won't do anything because "muh girlfriends"; There's also been countless occasions where he'll ignore or 'void' roleplay solely because he disagrees with the situation going on and, would rather have it go his way.

He deserved that. Don't sign up for a such a position when you're going to spend it erping and, being afk when you're needed the most.

 

Yep, they act like they're doing you some kind of a huuge favour, when or if they finally do respond after you PM & send requests for about 20 mins. What's worse, though, is when they do respond, and say "oh im busy rping".

 

And you didn't report him for doing so? There are sub-forums for such things like this

 

It would've been pointless considering the whole staff team are all niche together, they'd either disregard the server's opinion (just as they've done before) or not listen in the first place.

 

Once you consider it, most of us had more of a dystopic, hl2-esque experience not with IC actions, But with OOC action on the server. We have our abusive law enforcement only in it for themselves, administration that creates poor excuses for what they do, and the mindset of profit.

 

The problem with HL2RP servers could better be described as a paradox from hell. Many of the veteran roleplayers could open a damn fine server, but most of them know about all the shit that comes with it. Dealing with the administration conflicts, MPF structure, community drama, and all that nit picky stuff. Don't get me wrong, occasionally someone new or old will come along to make a really damn good server; however, those only last for about a month before they fizzle out of existence.

I think creativity is also a bit of an issue for new servers. It's not always a bad thing, but most of the creativity I see now-a-days is just slapping one little modification onto a server and calling it "different." Example: "OH LOOK, WE ADDED TWO RANKS TO THE MPF!!!!! HOW WACKY IS THIS RIGHT? NO OTHER PLACE HAS IT." It's not always that, but small additions to the server that make no real difference don't actually change anything. People advertise it as something different from the generic HL2RP server, but it's just the same thing with a shitty coat of new paint. The issue also comes from the other end too, when server creators make something that's actually quite good. There's been lots of interesting servers that aren't HL2RP, and some of them have done quite well. Although this good idea generally grows too big, or burns the owner out in a matter of weeks causing the server to just drop.

Honestly, if you want my opinion try to develop a server that still holds true to the original schematic, but change the infrastructure up enough to make it something new. Everyone who wants to try something new has either change very little or has changed everything, there is no in between. Rather than just slapping a few plugins on, why not reconstruct the MPF system to be different? What about Omega's MPF system he wrote up a long time ago? I tried that on a private roleplay, and it worked quite well. It would be interesting to see how it does on a public server. It's something that still holds true to the original structure, but changes it enough for people to take a new character route. Personally I haven't seen anyone make a coastal server in forever, love coastal servers. I could see outlands working out well if the right person jumped on it.

tldr for those with a short attention span:
- stop making "unique" servers that are actually just stuffed with plugins
- if you make a whole new rp, form it in a way where you don't get burnt out within weeks
- change the infrastructure of hl2rp so you still hold true to the original idea, but allow players to take a new character route
- i complain about no outland servers
