What is your favorite roleplay trope?

We all know there are plenty of tropes in roleplay, be it HL2RP or other. What is your favorite? Doesn't have to be good, it can be funny/bad but let's not let this turn into "GOD I HATE PEOPLE WHO DO X DIFFERENTLY FROM ME!!!"

Personally I'm a big fan of furry characters and trying to justify them in universe cough @Sixx
    Hilarity ensues

  2. Eve was pretty okay, apart from the catgirls. I invited my friend there and he started up his own town, so that was really cool.

srsly? you gotta be like the third person i know who thinks this. not only 'cus i'm furry trash but it also provides other kind of concepts that can be introduced and rping a fur is pretty fun

  4. I love being/seeing a insignificant character who's on-par with a background NPC. They provide no context to the situations they're in, they aren't important and will never leave a impact on the overall story.

It could be me but it just feels great to not be the center of attention at all, just enjoying the view silently in the background while everyone else is all "MUH CHARACTERS SOOO IMPORTANT OMG OMG EXMILITARY"

i don't make 'boring characters', but i do try to keep them as background as possible. i'll sift through the day being natural and not really trying to start anything on a character. whilst my main character has quite the questionable backstory, i don't use that for excuses or power, and i certainly don't try to be the center of attention in anything.

basically, instead of relying on a flashy TnB model and guns to give a first impression, you'd have to look at and talk to the character if you wanted to know them.

  6. i dislike people who complain about circlejerks but dont even try interacting with them. its like they see three people conversing and they assume it's a "circlejerk". happened today on a a different framework server i joined, like we're all helping this injured guy and some guy rages about us being a circlejerk and straight up lives. shits weird.

I don't see why people have such a negative stigma towards military characters to be honest. If I made an Israeli or Afrikaner, he would have been conscripted. There are countries that do that.

However, if you mean the "IM A US MARINE WHO KNOWS HOW TO KILL MOTHERFUCKERS AWDJAW:GNIFJAWL:GIKNAWGLJKGN AWJGKLAWGFOJK:AWF" Then yeah, I get you. That's fucking annoying.

I think my favorite is the blind loyalist. They are perfectly sane and think they make rational decisions until a unit's life is in danger, which they will risk their own lives to protect. Not to mention they actually like the Union.

    I've actually done that before.

A copy paste name I use is "Daniel Kane", one of them was a former LAPD patrolman.

Then there was "Daniel Andrasko", a Prague PD narcotics officer. He was really fun.

  14. The one thing I've always wanted is a character that won't shrug off the death of someone in two minutes, or in that case, instantly.

This was a real thing that happened.

And that's why I hate most servers. Doesn't matter if she was killed for seemingly bogus reasons, she should remain dead since that's life.

    "B-BUT I LOVE MY CHAR!! PLS!?? :'("

you know, personally i just take pk's because i know that if it's a fight situation or something, someone's gonna die. if i get shot or stabbed or w/e, i just take a death so the other party doesn't whine. one time i tried to do this i almost got banned because i was 'causing drama'. well i'm sorry that i didn't even want to be a part of the situation in the first place.

this is mainly why i can't play serious RP anymore. i can't win in anything. i'll always have a low ranked CP, or an ignored character, because i don't try to be anything. when i do try, i get fucked over by the people who try so hard. i don't complain about losing characters but when you have to make the same character on every server in the slightest hope that you'll maybe, just maybe be able to actually find someone and make a proper relationship, only to have that character beaten up by a CP because you said something snarky yet friendly.

i just want to make a character who's a rebel and does their thing with friends, and it seems like the only way to do that is to make your own server and give your friends admin and lock yourself away to passive RP in peace.

typing this made me sad for some reason.

Not to get too off topic because I'd like to keep this to funny/appreciable tropes, but I think the inherent issue is that many roleplayers, especially on Garry's Mod, don't grasp that roleplay is taking a character and playing that characters role. It's not about winnig/losing like an RPG, it's about bringing a potentially boring character to life in the story that is presented by the DM/GM. If you want an RPG style HL2RP server that's fine - but you can't favor certain players and their characters like you would in traditional roleplay. Masquerading behind the latter to enhance the profitability of the former is unethical IMO.

Anyways, OT, I've told this story before but I'll tell it again because it never fails to crack me up.
Me and a buddy of mine years back are playing on whatevrr city # the tokyo map was. And we both have CP characters detailed to GRID. On this server GRID fixed shit as field techs/engineers but also acted as guards and stuff for operating checkpoints and the Nexus and what not. So we're at a checkpoint with an opt in metal detector (it was a prop and we allowed the civilians to choose to either beep or not beep, so it usually was funny since the above mentioned tryhards didn't want their cool webels being found out and were too lazy to figure out a way around (2 existed)). Guy walks through. Beep beep beep beep! He stops and fearrps very well. We start searching him, laughing our asses off in TS because his description is "tall, dark hair. Parents were killed by the combine. Now he's out to raid the Nexus with 7 radios and a gun."
Sure enough he had 7 radios and a gun, and I'll never fucking forget it. Hysterically funny and presented well in character. That's a good troll.
